  1. Thanks Rob, This is one reason I have the 6s batteries - they're less than half price at the moment from SMC so each 6s2p 6600 battery was £75. Look at http://www.sussex-model-centre.co.uk/shopexd.asp?id=25722 May be something you can use - care with the length! I also think that the weight (1kg for my battery) could be an issue for the recommended 46 motor. I'm asking Horizon Hobbies what they think would be suitable!! Peter
  2. Have you tried 4-Max - they've got some interesting motors http://www.4-max.co.uk/ I've had a couple from them recently. Peter
  3. Dear Rob, Many thanks. I am very grateful for your help. Unfortunately i don't think that even the 280mm version will be big enough as my 6s2p batteries are 304mm long x 50mm wide x 40mm deep! I was very much hoping they would fit the 60 as I so enjoyed flying the 40. What power train do you plan to use? I shall have to continue my search for models to fit the batteries. Peter
  4. Hi just reading the thread for the first time and notice Chris' query about the data ports. 5 mins ago I read another Timbo thread dealing with battery ports on Spektrum receivers which suggested that one is designed as a data port for flight logging and the other as a JR standard battery and binding port. When using Spekkys with electric BEC though you have to plug the binding plug into battery port battery into any other position - as i understand it all the +ve and -ve pins on the receiver are connected as a power bus so it shouldn't matter. However interesting that Spekky recommend 6v batteries rather than BEC's.  There you've exhausted my technical knowledge which is probably wrong anyway. I've been playing around trying to fit an AR7000 into a small funjet and ended up mounting the rx upside down in the fus with the short antennae poking through holes in the fus so they were able to be fully extended! Hope this has been of some help, Peter
  5. I am thinking of buying one of these models to accommodate some 6 series LiPo batteries I have. Has anyone built one? I had a Pulse XT 40 for a year and loved it running it on 4 series. However a friend ran it on 5 and it was livelier! Therefore I'm happy with the general design and if it handles similarly I'll enjoy it. I wonder whether any one has built and flown one yet and therefore can they answer these questions a) the model has sufficient room in the fuselage to accommodate the 6s2p 6600 long batteries I have b) whether the battery bay floor is strong enough to take the weight c) whether an Elite 60 or similar motor recommended is the right one given that the battery weighs a kilo! If this model is not suitable what would be a good model for the battery? Would appreciate all views, thanks Peter
  6. I've just bought 6v packs or 7.4 lipo and voltage regulators to improve my power supplies. For bigger planes I'll use 6v sub c (which I use sub c 4.8v on my Adrenaline) on my bigger planes as I convert to 2.4.  Ho hum. Certainly not sure w3here that leaves us with capacitors though. This is what they say at Spektrum Spektrum Voltage Protector Overview Spektrum's new Voltage Protector prevents a DSM™ receiver's voltage from dropping below the proper operating level in lower voltage applications such as 4-cell 1/12 carpet racers. Installation is as simple as plugging it into an open channel slot on the receiver unit. Key Features For DSM system Prevents voltage drops to receiver Plugs into any open channel slotThis is what Horizon hobby said when I asked The Spektrum voltage protector SPM1600 was developed primarily for the car market, but the flight market has taken up the use of this product. If you have correct battery voltage and mah to suit the type of servos, the number of servos and also what type of plane they are used in than you should be fine, that is why i always recommend 6v battery. On electric flight you need to make sure that the speed controller's AMP and BEC can handle the number and the type of servos that are going to be used, and in what type of plane take into account the stall current if in an 3d model. The Spektrum website suggest guidance for evaluation of the load vs battery capacity: http://www.spektrumrc.com/Articles/Article.aspx?ArticleID=1683 Whcich I guess is the safe way! Why and when would "the flight market has taken up the use of this product"? Thanks for your help Peter
  7. Hi Shaun I sked them about the capacitors and they replied that they had originally been designed for use in cars but seemed to being taken up by the flying fraternity! That's why I was interested in what evryone else's experiences have been. Additionally I bought a module upgrade for my JR as an intro to 2.4 and the plastic antenna base stripped thread on second installation. I've since bought a replacement with a metal insert (thanks to Motors and Rotors) although they warn that people tend to screw them in too hard. I noticed when it first happened that the length of the plastic antenna post was such that it didn't screw onto the full length of the internal aerial bolt anchor. Not what you expect of a commercial product from Horizon! Peter
  8. Hi Has anyone fitted a Spektrum AR7000 into a Multiplex Funjet? I'm a bit short of room because I'm trying to do afairly outrageous install with 3s1p 3700, 4-Max 3600 motor, 75a ESC (w BEC) but was struggling with the rx installation. So far I've had to put the battery at one side, put the main rx at the front but with 1 antenna back and 1 front; and the satellite unit in the gap between battery and side of fus.  Any help or suggestions much appreciated. Peter
  9. Just as a follow on. Does that mean that all DSM2 RX's sold in the UK recently are already fitted with the quick connect programming? Has Horizon confirmed that? I was interested to read on the US Spektrum site that they also sell capacitors to help keep up rx voltages during reboot. I think they were originally produced for cars but I saw some for sale at the Wings and Wheels recently and apparently they plug into a spare rx channel. Does anmyone have any experience. Also can I ask if anyone has a photo of a Spektrum RX installation in a Multiplex Funjet they can share. I'm just finishing one off using the spec. suggested by 4-Max (www.4-max.co.uk) but have just bought a 2.4 upgrade for my JR 9xII and am gradually converting all my electric fleet to 2.4. Don't know if I can afford to do my ic as well. (I have less problems with them anyway). Thanks to all Peter
  10. Fabulous looking plane - but as I win something once every 25 yrs I think I'll keep trying.  Thanks for the chance Peter
  11. Thanks for the chance. Winning would be fantastic. Like the linked video - great idea - looking forward to receive the new mag.  Peter
  12. Just got your reminder this morning so very happy to put the name in the hat for the Texan!
  13. I would love to win it - not likley but would love to. I think it is incredible as I've clicked on this the morning after the e mail arrived - and there's already over 480 registered. Shows what a popular website this is. It does a great job please keep the good work up. Thanks, Peter
  14. Hi Eric, Thanks for the reply. As you say I posted a while ago. The solution I have gone for sop far is to install a 4100 sub C RX pack. I have added on on board glow with a dedicated sub C cell too. I'm hoping to get it flown for the first time at Easter - if the weather lets up!  Thanks for the response and help
  15. If its not too late - I would love to be entered into the draw. However As an aside I am notorious in being able to predict what National Lottery numbers won't come up - i.e. the one's I'm trying to win with. therefore i know I won't win but by being here guarantee that everyone else will have a better chance. Its OK no need to thank me. Selfless to the end! Peter
  16. All great news. I was lucky with catering last year because I had breakfast and lunch slightly early so missed the queues. Looking forward very much to the show I'm sure you'll get an even better turn out than last year and that was very good - and you had such a great line up of models and pilots too.  Thanks very much Peter
  17. That's really excellent news Allan - so looking forward to it. Dates in the diary and circulated to all club members!  Good luck with number 2 because number one was excellent - I'm sure you'll have a lot more trade interest too. Best wishes  Peter
  18. Hi Jimmac that would be very helpful. I found it difficult to think that JR would have excluded themselves from the 6v market completely. If you do find the article would be good to read. Many thanks Peter
  19. Thanks Dave - light starting to dawn. Looks like my next solution! Many thanks. Peetr
  20. Dave Thanks very much that's really helpful - I'll off to do some web hunting where you advise. Cheers  Peter
  21. Dave, Thanks very much - this is helpful - whose make is the battery backer? D'you have a favourite source? Are the multiplex connectors easy to fit? You use Hi tec servos I use Futaba or JR - are there any wiring incompatatibilies which would cause problems with the box?  Sub C - nasa_steve suggested them. Thanks for the endorsement. That's a great help. I'm sure RCM&E could do an interesting article on the subject of in flight Rx batteries, servo voltages etc - guidance could be helpful for people moving up in size of model. Many thanks  Peter
  22. This is really Helpful. Can you give any guidance about the connectors - you said multiplex fro the batteries - what about the servos? Thanks for the pictures
  23. Mmm. I've just fitted a 4100 4.8v sub c battery to my Adreneline with 6 x 579 8 kg servos. Will it hack it?
  24. Steve, Thanks for your patience. Naturally I care for the model I'm building as it represents a major investment for me. Its because I want it to be safe that I keep asking questions. Sorry, I don't doubt your advice but through ignorance I want to understand the pros and cons of the different oprions. I find batteries a complicated subject and see folks suggesting everytrhing from NiCads to Lipos with regulators - I thought Rx batteries were all the same!  Sub c Nimh it is then. What do you suggest Overlander's 4100 4.8 as per this link? http://www.overlander.co.uk/products/default.asp?cid=2&scid=51&pid=1401 Thanks Peter
  25. Have you seen this switch? http://www.sloughrc.com/pages/Products/Radio/SRCM-Radioaccess_emcotec.asp Might be suitable for larger aircraft. Bit of a price though!
