  1. Hi Anthony & Jason,

Nice to hear of your personal experiences using the diesel heater, my "sums" were to give a handle on how long the unit would need to function before it became cost effective. In terms of a practical heating standpoint vers. costs then the diesel  heater  with its 5kw o/p clearly wins, providing the longevity of the unit  is reasonable.

I am going to see how my shed "performs"  in terms of heating with some measurements, I suspect I might be going down the diesel heater option.

  2. This is quite an interesting thread, got me wondering where the break even point would be as regards buying one of these units.

So I did a bit of research:

so based on the price of a unit  approx £100

energy /ltr of red diesel  approx 10kWhr

cost of red diesel averages at £0.85

    electric cost £0.27 / kWhr

lets assume the unit is 100% efficient so cost per kWhr would be  £0.85/10 = £0.085

saving obtained  per kWhr over electric  = £(0.27-0.085)= £0.185

If the unit was run at full chat always i.e.5Kw  it would need to run for  100/5x 0.185 hrs =108 hrs to break even. Now clearly that is not realistic since the unit is not going to be 100% efficient and would not run at full chat all the time.lets assume the unit is at full for half the time so now the time to break even would be  216 hrs in a very rough ball park figure manner. The  average modeller  might spend 10 hrs a week in his shed so 21 weeks .And thats assuming 21 weeks of cold weather.

Looks excellent . I havent tried printing waterslide decals , but it would be the obvious solution to squadron badges etc . Do they fade with the sun ?

Surely not a big problem in the UK🤪

  4. I remember the cold war warning system from my telephone exchange days, I think it was called WB 1400.It had a I am "alive" tone that intermittantly sounded,it made my blood run cold.Following the end of the cold war they were all removed.

Mine went off a couple of seconds before my wife’s.  We’re with different providers.

As I understand it, the Doomsday scenario isn’t the main intended use but it could be targeted at localised events such as flooding, chemical escapes, dangerous fugitives etc. 😂

Ron - could your phone be using WiFi to augment it’s mobile connection?

If that was the case why wasn't this  implemented 2 or 3 years ago, funny now that this is being promoted against the backdrop of the rising international tensions, as regards dangerous fugitives has Borris ,Farage, and the ERG been  allowed out again😂

  6. Hi Ron, Thanks for your recent presentation  re ITAT, at one point you said that you  were operating your diode laser at full power.Does that have an impact on diode laser life, how is the rated lifespan?.

  7.    Thanks for the link eflightray, shows  some useful build information. Sorry to hear that you have given up flying, personally I find the building of a model the more engaging aspect of the hobby.

  8. Hi Eflightray,

That looks a very good rendition of the A10 despite the tractor props,I assume its a all depron construction?. Curious to how you constructed the ducts and were the ducts pointed upwards as per the actual A10. Also on the full size the tail plane is angled downwards, did you replicate that or did you  need to modify it in any way?

Lastly did you get abrupt trim changes if you reduced engine power?

Just watched the video, yes its all depron.

I saw something similar, wasn't sure if that was BOPP though which doesn't shrink.

I had a look on ebay, couldn't find  the item Engine Doctor referred to . Is there more than one  type of laminating film, what type do I require?

Do a thorough search on ebay as I found a pack of two rolls each 100 plus meters long x 60cm wide for £32 inc postage , others were selling at £45 + for a single roll .

Thats a good find, any body want to go halfs with one roll, would have to collect from my address Bourne lincs.

  11. That is a very comprehensive reply David, based on the two examples you provided the actual increase would be( 635/475) x£17.35= £23.19 for the Matt  the equivalent ultra Matt is priced at £42.70. So  the percentage increase is  42.70/23.19 x 100= 84% increase for not much tangible benefit.I  will go with the Matt.

  12. Had a quick look at the binding box, it seems the Matt comes in 2 flavors either Matt, or ultra Matt. For the same size product the ultra Matt is significantly dearer, so any thoughts on the product differences.Could it be that the Ultra Matt would not need a plastic primer, any body tried it?.
