  1. In the end I had to choose between Weston & the LMA show at Marcle. No brainier for me as it is my local club . Entrance was £10 for non members . Trade stands while reduced were better than expected I even managed to find a 4S LiPo I needed. The flying display put on by the LMA was as ever superb , just love those big planes and , for me, the Vulcan is still the most magnificent site at a model show. Helped by the perfect weather.

Think I made the right choice but I would have done both if the dates had not clashed….

  2. Chris , real model pilots print them for you at 1/16 scale. That’s where most of the gnat builders went. Check out the provost and gnat builders thread where there’s some discussion over choice.

  3. 15 hours ago, Neil James said:

My experience with buzzing digital servos is that the buzzing is significantly reduced when the faster 10ms setting is selected instead of 20ms.

Interesting Neil, I was fairly convinced about that characteristic as well so I follow the same practice.

  4. Bob, interesting re the neuron parameters . On the Horus OS it only ever recorded ESC values( correctly) and never the BEC values . (They were there because I know you got them ok on OpenTx).

Plus none of the neuron TM values appeared in the TM log which was very annoying.
    Are they there now ?

  5. When we first migrated to the new site I tested out the search facility. Notwithstanding some of the extra search options make it much better than previously there were some major issues.
Primarily a multi word search in standard search syntax ie “grunau baby” works perfectly on my iMac but but not on my iPad. Put another way the the search on the iMac gives me only grunau baby results while the iPad gives me absolute everything that has baby in it !

I have no idea what PCs or mobiles do with the above search syntax . Not seen anyone else commenting on this feature so I was wondering if it was on the list of bugs to fix or not?

  6. David, that’s a shame with the various mountain panoramas slope soaring with the glider fleet is pretty realistic. It runs up at 60 FPS on my 2017 iMac which is running  the latest Big Sur OS. I was pleasantly surprised by that so perhaps the IKARUS claims of a better graphics package are borne out in practice.

  7. Hopefully the X 10 ETHOS will be ok on the ACCST protocol (can’t see why it shouldn’t ). I may be hoping for too much but that should also mean model memory compatibility albeit perhaps just for FrOS  .

  8. Aerofly team  at IKARUS came back to me with a link to a demo version for RC7 for windows.

I was sufficiently impressed to finally buy the iMac version of RC8 from the Apple store. I would have gone for RC7 with the possible intent to upgrade later but there was no cost effective upgrade route so I went for the latest version straight off, mainly because it uses the latest and more efficient graphics engine .

Really pleased with it and it looks brilliant on the iMac. Once you have sorted the auto zoom to your liking I think it is the best I have seen. Don’t think I will ever use the 4D scenes that are available; they seem aimed at the gaming end of the market which is not what I want.

Thats it for me on this topic, thanks to Graham for inducing me to spend more money than I intended!

  9. If or when my X10 gives problems I will certainly be in the queue. It sometimes seems like I am the only person to have ever stuck with the FrOS viz OpenTx but I have never had a problem and it has coped with anything I have ever need for fixed wing flying be it power or gliders. Ran out of capacity for logic switches occasionally but that is all.

My only real criticism is that it was never developed after initial release which meant that it did not fully support new hardware such as the neuron ESCs.

I would have no qualms about tying ETHOS.

  10. Thanks for the feedback David. The development history and majority of reviews I have seen also rate Aero Fly very highly. I am never keen on buying older versions and the latest RC8 is in my view expensive. I would need to try it first and preferably on my iMac before I splashed the cash. I contacted IKARUS about the possibility of a demo version. They replied that Apple controlled the Mac versions and their refund policy precluded demo versions. Not sure about that but it is what it is. They did imply they had a windows demo but have yet to tell me how to get it. If they do I will try it on my windows laptop.

    Meanwhile some feedback on PICASIM.
I am still finding out how to configure PICASIM to my likes ( eg amount of ground horizon in view ) There are lots of model and scenery adjustments that can be made when you dig into it. The flight dynamics seem pretty realistic to me , it’s only the graphic detail which is to a large extent characterised. Clearly if you want that you have to pay the money.

All that said I have found it useful to practice some slope flying and generally knock the rust off my stick fingers. I have also been trying to hone my knife edge/ 4 point rolls on an a large scale Extra. Very useful to be able to reduce the frame rate for initial practice.
