  1. Cheers Denis, it helps, but just wacked another tree. Perhaps the old eyes are getting worn out. But the ground in view is a real winner. Nigel
  2. Hi folks back again. I now have a few sims and have given them all a go. I do seem to have a couple of problems, not with the programme, but the way they work. One is depth perception. I keep hiting things like bushs trees parked plane trucks, because I cannot tell how far or near to them I am because there is no depth perception, in 2 dimensions. Even tried flying a 3d model, but that didn't work either LOL. Another thing is visual orientation. Sometimes I cannot see what position the plane is in, because it appears to far away. My other real problem is landing. All the planes seem so floaty. They just go on and on, and when you try to flair out they seem to climb 20 ft in the air. Still great way of getting stick time in. Nigel
  3. Thanks Peter and J D. I now have at least 3 of RX's and quite a few crystals. I will tend to use channel 55 as this is free at the club normally, but I do have other channels available as I think I have about half a dozen pairs knocking around. Good luck Nigel
  4. Hi all, what a great discussion. I am by the way the Devils advocate. At times the software people get what they deserve. If when I buy a software product, I expect support for as long as I use it. That is why I paid for it. Yet we have seen loads of times. Sorry no further support. Windows XP etc. The list could go on forever. I have just bought a second hand copy with the controller, all in a box for the Ikarus easy flight 3. But I cannot register it, as they seem not to support it any longer. So now we have the question, do I buy their new product or get a Chinese copy, and save a fortune. I would love to buy the original, but they seem not to give a monkeys about myself or the thousands of others that buy their product's. In this day and age it is all about money. The only way to be better than the opposition is in a great aftersales service. That's why I try to buy from a local model shop and not the internet, because if it goes wrong I can take it straight back, and their after sales service is great. Nigel
  5. Struth this is getting to much for a simpleton like me. Will be flying 3 channel only for a while, till I get the , Trim up mix double a bit of aileron opps. Crash!!! out of my head. Nigel
  6. Hi Dave, sounds great. Hopefully you will have loads of fun with it. I never really used the flaps on my model as it was slow enough with out them. I tried them once at quite a slow speed and the thing shot up like a rocket. Unfortunately it crashed before I really got used to it. But someday it will take to the air again. Nigel
  7. Theses are the times I am glad when I went to my local hobby shop. So much easier to deal with
  8. I thought "I know nothing" was a line from Shultz, in Hogen's hero's.
  9. This looks like great fun. As a total dipstick to the way things are now made, what sort of foam board are we talking about are where can you get it from. Nigel
  10. Hi chaps, me again Sorry. I have just won a new copy of Easyfly3 on ebay for £3.00. It comes with a transmitter for the sim. What are your views on this as a sim. I have just got clearview working and wonder which is best, and if I should just go ahead and pay for clearview. I did not expect to win the other thing on ebay as it was a maiden bid. Your thoughts appreciated Nigel
  11. Tom and Ray, thanks for words of encouragement. Yes looking forward to flying the real things in the near future, just looking for some stick time to get my hand back in a bit, so the instructor at our field doesn't have to spend to much time with me. Nigel
  12. PPS |Dave, you should be able to upload version five for free, according to other chaps on here.
  13. Hi Dave thanks for the info, will have a look on the web and see what turns up. I hope to take the glider with me as we are in a caravan with the rest of the tribe. So there might be a field where we can fly. Nigel PS do you still live down that way, if so where do you fly
  14. Hi all, and thanks for all the help. After a bit of a cuffle I managed to down load a new driver, and now clear view works. I have had my ten minutes worth, so now will have to shell out for the rest of the programme. It seems ok and I am only after a bit of stick time while I am waiting for the weather to improve so that I can get a real model out there. I must get them all down from the loft and get a few photos of them. Some need identifying as I do not even know what they are. I guess I have about six or seven that are ready to fly with three or four more that just need finishing to get them airworthy. I have an electric glider that is munching at the bit to get in the air. All the rest are I/C models. Once again thaks for the help. Not so grumpy Nigel
  15. Thanks, just tried it but the page for the software is not available. Guess I will just have to stick with FMS Nigel
  16. I have not paid anything yet as I was hoping to try it out first. But nothing really works. Can not get any airfield, planes, or even the 0905a transmitter thingy majig to register. Do I need to get a code for the demo mode? Nigel
  17. AS I said I can get nothing to work. I am using a e sky 0905a type transmitter. I have tried to set it up, but it does nit see it.Also I would expect it to show me flying sites and planes etc, but nothing. It has also downloaded two versions of clearview. Clr and Clr1. these appear on my desktop. Shall I delete it and try again Nigel
  18. I have just downloaded clearview , but cannot get it to do anything.PS I am not to hot on computers. But nothing works. No planes, flying fields. Nothing. What am I doing wrong. Nigel
  19. I am off to poole this weekend so will have a look see
  20. Thanks for that chaps. I was not sure what the "dongle" was, but now I know, I know what to look for. I have seen a second hand one so mi=ght buy that. Not quite so grumpy Nigel
  21. Hi all, just getting back into modelling. I thought that I would try a simulator. I have FPS which uses a e sky 0905a 4 channel imitation radio control box. FPS is very limited I have found. Most of the time I cannot use a rudder as it does not work. I have down loaded Picasim, but cannot get that to respond to my controller. I fancy Pheonix, but please what is a dongle, and what does it do. I have seen stuff advertised, but I do not know if it has a dongle. I also have two 35mhz futaba controlers. One is a fp-t5n and the other is a t6exap. I believe that these can be used with a lead.. I have seen dongles advertised but how do they work. I am just trying to save muself money and disappointment. Grumpy old git Nigel
  22. Dave, yes the engines seem ok, but need some fuel etc to check. Ok on the one receiver, I tend to have the aerial wire come out where the wings join the fuselage, and run back to a pin in the rudder. Have more than one receiver, but need to see just how many. Have joined the BMFA, £17 till the end of the year. Not to bad, and helps the peace of mind to know I am insured. The 3 metre glider sounds a beasty, have a couple of gliders, but only about 6ft wingspan. Still raining here and looks like its set for the week. Have been looking at 2.4 ghz kit, but will wait and see, just how many fly 35mhz, before I change anything. I have built in the past, but the artf planes are great value. The last one I bought was an Arising star for £30 ish off ebay. Used to have a friend years ago that "enjoyed" building stuff and he built me a couple of planes. Still have one, an old ben buckle kit, and I am repairing the other one after the wing decided to try to clap there hands together. I was a STOL plane with flaps, flew nice but not built for aerobatics, hence the wings folding. All the best Nigel
  23. Have you ever tried to fly an umbrella. The drag is horrendous!
  24. At our club the majority still fly I/C motors. Fuel is about £22 to £35 a gallon. It's a a shame I cannot stick my old 50cc Honda engine in a plane, but a high boy might be a =bit nose heavy
  25. Good evening all and thanks for the good wishes. Thanks also Dave for the good advice. I don't think that I have to be as drastic as soaking the engines in paraffin for a couple of days, as I went into the loft this evening and they all seem to turn over OK. But a few drops of 3 in 1 followed by running them rich as four strokes for a while seems good advice. I think that now might be a good time to try and pick up a few cheap receivers on 35mhz. I have quite a few planes in the loft, and it would be great justb to pick one up and fly it, rather than swop over receivers from one plane to another. Don't worry about loft ladders as we have a stair case going up there. I will stick up a few photos soon as I hope someone can identify some of my plane. A few years ago I was at our local tip, and someone came in with a few plane and goodies like servos etc, as was going to dump them. I managed to rescue them before they through them in the tip. I forgot to ask though if they had anything else, as there were wings etc, but no fuselage. I still think what I might have missed,. But will stick up some piccys when I get a chance. I fly out at Chobham Common and I think that Surrey council have given out the parking to a private firm, hence the charges. Also the old triangle bit in the middle of the roads that we used as an overflow carpark, has now been fenced off, so it makes it even harder to park. Being a grumpy old git I tend to work to the theory, if it ain't broke, don't fix it. Anyway high winds today and very wet tomorrow, so will have to wait till I get up in the air again. Good flying and happy landings to you all Nigel
