Well the wind was a little stronger than forecast....
The maiden flight went very well, the only trim required was 3 clicks of up elevator.
She flew very well, took off like a banshee, I had set high, med and low rates. I must say the low settings probably need to go down to 30% at 40% she was still a little lively
Thanks for a great little sportster Peter

Hi,
Yes, photos should be available . Luckily, we have a Pro photographer in the club.
Apart from the small Bulls/Yellow circles , I did all the graphics by hand... Cutting the film white red and lastly the blue and ironing on.
The large Red Bull lettering using oracover trim putting the red onto white.

Hi,
With any luck, the forecast for Monday is looking excellent. The club strip has been cut, and the access track is passable.
So Plan A
1. Fly the Calmato 40 a few times to get the fingers working again, its been soooooo long
2. Maiden the Moon Dancer 2
3. Maiden the Lysander
4. Charge the batteries and do it all again
Plan B
There is no plan B

Our flying field is OK its just that the long and winding track to it, is, well mud...
The dry windy days are helping. But its sure to rain on the next non blustery day.....
Still I have finished off two models which are now ready to maiden, if the weather ever gets better.
Could be worse, I may finish the third!

I managed to sort the C of G out by adding a 3700mAh (3S) with the all up weight, spot on 1.6kg (3.5lb)
Gave the power train a spin, as the sun was shining!
Using the recommended motor, Frsky Neuron ESC, and APC 11 x 5.5 prop gave 365W at 31.77A 11.52V
So 102W / lb sounded OK and all well within limits at full chat.
Roll on a decent, non blustery day....

So having made the rudder 8mm larger and added a steerable tail wheel.
I also made the canopy slightly shorter, (that's all I had.....)
My build came out at 1.5kg that's with a 3s 2200 battery., so I can easily fit a 3s 3300
CG is on the main wing spar so slightly aft, about 5mm.

Thanks Peter, I will see if I can fabricate such a device

My delivery arrived today, so will start again.
Decide to have a go at the undercarriage.
Blooming heck how do you bend 8 SWG Piano wire to 90 degrees?

Peter, I am no perfectionist by a long shot, but a good model deserves to look good!
In fact I am a novice, the only skill I have is I look read, remember and try to emulate, if it doesn't look right I will do it again. That's my flying style as well. Having passed my A cert. I do multiple circuits and landings most flying days. As well as starting to learn some aerobatics. But the truth is I can take off and land multiple types of model as well as anyone in the club.
PS Cant believe, no one else is building it, My goal is to be flying it before the next edition of the magazine come out.. Only the weather will stop me I think.

Hi Peter, thanks for that, I try not to rush and have been known to throw it away and start again....
Still I had a few scraps of oracover left so decided to start the tail feathers. Just put in place for the photo...
As you can see its going to be in Red Bull Aerobatic colours... well its aerobatic!

Hi kc
Your right about varied thickness of sheet balsa, as I have found out it can be a lot different...
I have a stripper, I found that pre-cut strip is usually always hard balsa and expensive.
Cheers.
-
Thanks for the reasoning, I must admit the ribs seem to need something, having used soft balsa.
-
Hi Piers,
Thanks for that.
Yes, its not not taken long it is a very straightforward build. The weather has been crap so no flying...
My last build took just under 400 hours....
Waiting for some piano wire, captive nuts etc. and the covering to arrive, so that may stop progress for a while as I never seem to get any deliveries on a Saturday?
