I've got a invader, flys superbly, bit late now but I'll take a few measurements tomorrow.
-
I agree Barrie, ordered some props from them last week, arrived 26 hours later ( and im the opposite end of the country from them).
-
Sorry Steve, I can only agree with the others, it's frankly horrible and not worth a thing...bit brutal I know..
-
Absolutely marvellous, aeromodelling at its very best, superb model and a superb pilot, so nice to see a scale model flown in a scale fashion.
-
He'll probably offer you twenty quid but try and sell it for 2 grand after his band of bodgers have dragged there knuckles over it.

Good thread Doc, for the life of me I can't remember where Brian said about not using it on phosphoru bronze, sadly a bit late to ask him now, what magazine did write under the name of "the wizard of oz"?
At the time it made sense to me to the point of never using it on bronze, oilte etc.
I only ever use it to silence squeaky door hinges although I do agree about the smell.

Along time ago I seem to remember Brian Winch talking about wd40, apparently it will attack phosphor bronze bushes.

Probably the best opening post I've ever read on a forum!
A very warm welcome....

Just my thoughts but if your going down the route of adding a reduction gearbox then why not go the whole way and develop a engine that's "A true 4 stroke" with in sump lubrication? if nothing else it'll put a end to the how much oil is to much debate.
The gearbox idea is a great one btw, surprised it's not a common feature on larger engines ( of any brand).

I use auto finesse "revive", it's a automotive plastic and rubber dressing but any product sold to give you wet look tyres will do tbh.
-
Had exactly the same problem with mine but I've cured it by drilling a hole through the plastic collar and main shaft to allow me to use a Tommy bar to tighten the collar, the shaft is only chromed brass so fairly soft.

You can substitute paraffin for white spirit, kerosene or jet fuel, apparently white spirit smells far less once burnt.
Can't answer the oil question although I would only ever use castor as most of my engines are old and I feel it offers the best protection.
-
I'd be interested Nigel! please pm me.

I fly diesels exclusively, I don't own any glows or electrics, fuels no problem, local model shop ( addlestone models) stock it, it's not cheap but as I only use small capacity engines it lasts ages.
-
I'm with Test pilot, use em or lose em! I haven't needed much lately but the bits I did need I got from my local model shop ( addlestone models).
-
I agree with cymaz, have a look inside before scrapping it, you may well able to give it a new lease of life for a few pounds.
-
That'll be D2000 then!
Thanks for the clarification Phil, as I fly diesels exclusively and only ever use MT fuels I thought I was going mad!
I would use 1000 in a dart and 2000 in a new PAW
-
Slightly off topic but I can't find any reference to D1500 on model technics site ?
-
I would go for a small diesel, with no throttle there much more controllable, just back off the compression!
A paw .55 would be my choice if looking for a new engine or something like a DC Dart if you want the real vintage experience.

I've lost the odd wheel in the past oh and I had all the carefully applied trim fly off from a Hooligan ( remember them?) in front of most of the club...I was only young!
Years before I did find a mill's 1.3 complete with bearers and prop in the middle of a local common, no other signs of wreckage and I've always assumed it "fell off" ??

Totally unhelpful and tongue in cheek but it would never happen with a glow or diesel!...sorry couldn't resist..
Nah! Seeing what happens down at the field, you're right it wouldn't happen with a glow or diesel. Usually they just don't run at all.
Please, please, PLEASE don't let this thread turn into an electric vs IC battle!
Tim.
Of course not Tim, only my attempt at a little humour, no offence intended...apologies...

Jeffrey this my invader, its free flight but it should help you in getting yours trimmed, mine weighs just under 4 ounces, the cg is on the main spar and the only packing it needed was 3/32 under the wing trailing edge.
I do agree with you about using to many strong bands, I only use 2 rather thin ones, I use those the postman drops!
I bungee launch mine using a home made affair consisting of 10 yards of 1/8th elastic and 15 of 6lb fishing line, even at full stretch the wings show no signs of lifting off the fuselage.
The most important thing is to have the hook in the right place mines 3/4" behind the nose skid.
