  1. Hi, i notice that many batteries don't have BEC leads coming off them & quite often without the lead a lot less expensive. Is there an alternative to maybe coming off the main lead with some sort of reducer & filter down to 5 volt. Or best not to go there,
  2. Thanks for all the great info guys. Your making my life a lot easer.
  3. thanks.  Turnigy dlux 80A HV Brushless ESC w/8A SBEC and Data Logging (2s~8s) £72.55 ouch!    Edited By Christopher Morris 2 on 21/10/2019 21:28:43
  4. Perfectly correct i12fly with also the the earth included, but remembering the the earth & neutral are the same. But with rubber boots you would be thought of as just resistance & those excitable electrons would try to light you up. Don, by the way that is not the French resistance i meant. lol
  5. Thanks for that. I noticed that some ESC are marked 80A Brushless ESC with 5A BEC (2~6S) does the 2~6 mean the equivalent of 12 cells & would be ok for 8 cells. Presumably i am also best to charge the 2 battery's separately & not wile in series .
  6. Posted by Tom Sharp 2 on 21/10/2019 18:14:14: I am led to believe that if you remove the supplied plug from an appliance you render the guarantee invalid. Most are not part of the appliance & quite often have a clover leaf or kettle style lead that's not part of the appliance.
  7. Posted by Don Fry on 21/10/2019 17:48:56: Christopher, I live in France. We don't use fuses. It's all on RCD circuits. Major stuff is one socket on its own RCD. Minor stuff runs on a number of sockets back to a RCD. No ring mains. Uses a lot of wire. Plugs come in 2 varieties. A 2 pin, with a recess to take the earth, which is a male pin on the socket. Or a two pin without earth for stuff that does not leed an earth. An earth plug can be used for anything, the non earth unit only comes prefitted to suitable equipment. All safe, just different. The water is also fit to drink, and we use flush toilets. Hot water systems run a mains pressure, so we have to endure showers that deliver enough water to get you wet. The RCD's are a great thing, but wont protect against over current as its designed to trip at "lets say" 16amps & if something is only 2 or 3 amp rated, it should be protected with a fuse at that amperage. It's one of those things that a fault has to appear before the rcd will trip. But a load fault may of already started a fire before the rcd trips. Rcd's are more designed to stop a personal electric shock, & work well at that as i picked up a damp extension lead to a cement mixer last year & got a shock, but just for a split second as the rcd tripped. Sill hurt, but not as bad as it could of been.
  8. The strange thing, is you can buy adaptors that have fuses that can be changed. It wouldn't be quite so bad if they supplied this type. But as mentioned by wingcoax many EU countrys have lower aperage fuses as they run there sockets in radials & need a smaller fuse to protect. In vthe uk we have ring mains that will take a higher fuse of 32amp. The odd thing about this in EU countries is that a 3amp rated item is still backed up by a 16amp fuse which cant be right.   Edited By Christopher Morris 2 on 21/10/2019 17:07:41
  9. Hi, i am looking at a model that requires an 8 cell 3200mA minimum. Now i havant got an 8 cell charger, my one is only a 6 cell. What could the alternative be?. 2x4cell in series ? or, is this not the way. Details of model motor & power: Motor: 50mm 310 rev per volt - Propeller: 14x10 ~ 15x10 ESC: 60A - Lipo Batteries: 8 cell 3200mA Thanks
  10. I have noticed more & more that when you buy mains electrical items from ebay Chinese sellers & others like Bangood quite often have a mains lead with a round 2 pin plug like used on the continent. They then supply a none fused adapter for use in the UK. Please cut off this 2 pin plug & throw this & the adapter in the bin, then fit a normal 13amp plug to your newly purchased unit & protect with the correct fuse. If you use the adapter that is supplied you will quite likely be backing up your new "lets say charger" with the main fuse board fuse that is usually 32amp instead of 3amp that should be used. Be warned.
  11. Thanks for that Brian. Looks a great choice & looks ;like the boomerang has loads of room. It looks like you could put another shelf inside for extra equipment. Not quite sure from the literature if it comes with anything? IE: motor, servos, do you remember what yours came with?. It also looks very upgradeable. I am also surprised at the very reasonable prices in comparison to others, but maybe if it doesn't come with certain parts, this might explain it. But, nice looking plane.
  12. Must admit i have seen some real Frankenstein models that have been cobbled together & adapted, that have worked surprisingly well. Its this type of experimenting i like to see. The Maule looks a good bet & would be great if i could pick up a second hand one up, as they are a little pricey for a foam. Edited By Christopher Morris 2 on 16/10/2019 06:46:47
  13. Thanks for the input, foamys are quite often restricted, maybe i will extend the sides & reshape at worst. The wood is a good idea, but choice is very limited. I might go for a Bixler 3 as many have done mods with this plane. One even had a 70mm duct fan on the roof & said it Flys really good.
  14. Hi, i am looking for an electric plane with room for modifications. IE: larger battery, more powerfully engine, giro, FPV & alike. So one with lots of easy space to work in so i can experiment. Any suggestions on ones you have found with lots of spare space.? Thanks
  15. I must be unlucky with KLM shop. I am new to RC flying & sent this shop an email for recommended local clubs & to see if they had stock of a starter package for me. No answer. So i found a local club & they also suggested KLM to buy the gear i needed. So, a couple of days later i popped in with about £400 in cash to get started. After being in the shop for over 15 minutes with the owner "I assume" on the phone i gave up & walked out. Do people not realise that if a customer walks into a shop & your on the phone, you say sorry to the person on the phone & tell them you will call back in a short wile as a customer has just walked in. Must admit that it was the most untidy scruffy shop i have ever been in. Wont be using this place again, shame as it was local.

"training wheels" But also the club i am joining is 98% Spektrum users & the Spektrum gyro's are a fortune in comparison. "Like a lot of Spektrum" Link to a manual for the super 3. I thought Bangood would be the best price, but ebay sells for around £25.00. Edited By Christopher Morris 2 on 14/10/2019 07:48:23 It should help. I fly from a place that is a challenge to land and quite a short strip, and I want mine to smooth things out on landing. If I had a nice big flat smooth field I probably wouldn't bother.. I am about to join the Kings Lynn club & was really imprest with the facilities they have & being Norfolk, we have lots of well looked after flat ground with the clubs landing area that is about an acre+,  with a couple of acres around the strip.. 17. Hi Denis, the V2 i believe is just a fail safe & not a gimbal to level the plane. Good point on the Lemon DSMX with a receiver built in. Plus i have heard good things on the Lemon products. But i do like the option of being to quite accurately program the super 3 with a laptop. Not a lot of good in the field "unless you take the laptop" but good fun.

  19. I see this advertised, but was the super 3 a success for you? I was looking to buy one & thought it was new product, but i just seen the date on the post, LOL. But seeing as its upgradable, this should be ok. VIDEO
  20. Posted by Cuban8 on 08/10/2019 12:42:24: Posted by Tom Sharp 2 on 30/09/2019 20:57:26: One club I was in years ago moved the payment to the beginning of April. Trouble was, by then people were coming up with all sorts of excuses to delay payment due to other commitments. The most effective way to put a stop to most of this is to offer a 'discount' (important to label as such rather than as a penalty or rejoining fee IMHO) after increasing your club subs by a suitable amount. We had a lot of this bother years ago, people leaving their subs until the fine weather or all sorts of other spurious reasons. We upped the subs by £15 and then offered a 'discount' of £15 for prompt payment i.e. by Jan 1st. Stopped the problem in its tracks. No objections, because the majority of members paid on time anyway. The half a dozen regulars who would always pay late and thus cause a disproportionate amount of extra admin dragging on well into early summer, soon mended their ways. Edited By Cuban8 on 08/10/2019 12:43:35 Good idea on the discount Tom. I see some clubs also offer a 6 month deal. So, if a club is £100.00 a year, they will do an April to September for £70.00. So not half price, but a good discount for the far weather flyers.

  22. Posted by Andy48 on 29/09/2019 18:41:01: Posted by leccyflyer on 29/09/2019 17:43:32: That's not what Christopher Morris is saying. He's saying that he wishes that clubs would permit paying for membership on a calendar year basis from when the member joins the club and not to all have to pay their subs at the beginning of the year each year. Perhaps Christopher would try being treasurer for a few years, not only collecting fees piecemeal, but also checking on a weekly/monthly basis those who haven't paid. I'm afraid its a case of moving with the times. There is lots of inexpensive membership software out their that automates a lot of this & makes less work. But you need 50+ members to warrant going this way. I am just joining a club "or will in January" that wants a cheque or postal order. I havant given, received or seen a check book in over 20 years. But hopefully they will take cash.
  23. Posted by Steve J on 08/10/2019 10:26:51: That battery is for a Spektrum transmitter. It will have internal protection circuitry. Correct, i have seen a few videos on this being used on the DX6 & DX6e. Yet on Hoby-king & other sites, it says for the DX7/8/9 any ideas on why not the 6 & 6e.?? Thanks
  24. I was looking at a 2 cell lipo battery because of its size & power & wondered why on some lipo's there is no balance lead & just a P+N lead. Is this not a problem for looking after the battery??   Edited By Christopher Morris 2 on 08/10/2019 10:04:33
  25. Thanks guys, i will add this to the basket. It will help to getting used to the DX6e over the winter. Great advice hear, don't suppose you know of a bulk LPG gas supplier.? My next task "Only joking".
