  1. Hi Richard, did I see that you might be able to supply canopies? It would be handy if you already made your own blank. I would probably get two if possible as I'll build the delta at some point in the best future too. Many thanks, Tom

  3. Definitely the canard to start with - I love the look of the delta but I like the sound of the canard's flight characteristics. Every single build of mine has a few 'oh sπ1t!' moments, so I usually end up doing a second one when I get round to it, will probably give the delta a go in that case.

  4. Just got the mag, looks great and a quick build too. Will see if I can knock up some parts in the evenings this week and get it built - Another Rich Harris classic in the making!

  5. I'm relatively new to all this, but without shims wouldn't that definitely create a lot more lift as they aren't angled down as normal? - am i barking up the wrong tree? It is interesting that the blades still spin up easily without them.

Thanks for the info on the panther Rich - I will have a think and see what i can come up with. Will video the conventional gyroo maiden - for better or worse 🙂

    Cheers, Tom

  6. Almost finished my gyroo, but will wait for a nice calm day before venturing out.

Staring at it in the shed, I started to wonder about building another one double size. I would obviously need to think about sufficient strength in places (probably a carbon mast and boom, spruce on the blades trailing edge too for stiffness?, And would need to make my own head a bit like the panther).

Seeing the double size panther on Rich's YouTube channel, it looks like the extra size could make a graceful floater but I'd be prepared for failure anyway 😂

  7. Almost everything ready to cover minus the blades. This is the first time I've actually built something completely from scratch and I'm very grateful for the simplicity of your design. Really satisfying build - if this works out nicely I'll move onto the Panther over winter.

  8. I apologise if this model is already mentioned somewhere on the forum but I couldn't find anything in any detail.

I just picked up a secondhand David boddington Autogyro and one thing that perplexes me is that the blades are just flat pieces of balsa. No airfoil and not even a leading edge - looking at other photos it seems like this is the way it was intended.

    1. How does it create lift without an airfoil? With the negative incidence on each blade I can see them spinning up easily but in terms of lift I'm starting to think I haven't quite grasped how gyros work.

    2. If I took off the covering and sanded them into an airfoil - would it make much difference?

  9. Thanks Big T - that's reassuring.

Thanks for your tips on balancing etc. There were some small fibreglass shims included in the stuff I got from coolwind - the downwards incidence isn't a lot, is there a rough guide about how much one needs?

So much about autogyros still hurts my head, just so fascinating though.

  10. Firstly - this forum is an amazing resource considering that there isn't really that much info out there online, especially compared to other parts of the hobby. Can't wait to start a proper scratch build and share the process.

I recently picked up an auto-g2 as I would like to build my own gyro soon and I thought this would be a good intro into some of the key concepts.

I bought the conversion kit and blade reinforcements from coolwind and have lovingly made some balsa blades with a spruce leading edge.

All seems to be on course for covering and balancing etc however after checking CG cordwise then drilling the mounting hole I have noticed that they aren't all in exactly the same place. So this leads me to wonder - does it matter if they aren't all in exactly the same place, as long as they are all mounted on their CG respectively?

    Many thanks, Tom

  11. Cheers everybody, these forums really are full of generous and knowledgeable folk. Looks like it should be a good bit of fun! My first EDF although I've flown some pretty quick wings, so hopefully I'll survive ?

  12. I got this kit with a job lot recently and it's quite interesting. Basically hotwire cut EPS foam wing halves and wooden spars. The wing looks pretty decent now covered in brown paper.

I couldn't find anything about these kits online - maybe somebody remembers this company?

Also this is my first flying wing. Does anybody have any wisdom about working out CG and how much reflex I'll need?

Quite a speedy motor in shot but I might prefer more of a powered glider direction.

    Cheers, Tom

  13. Thanks Steve, that's very good of you to send all the specs - the beauty of these forums and this hobby I suppose (all fairly new to me).

I had thought about mounting a folding prop on the nose but your solution is much more elegant. I'll start having a think and and post a kind of build log in here too.

    Cheers, Tom
