    10J or T12k?

Yup its mode 2, my club uses mode 2 (most popular in UK it seems) & for myself I prefer mode 2, if I was to train using mode 1 it would just end in disaster over & over as I don't like the layout of Mode 1. Yup I've had a good read around & spoke to a few guys who own the H9 20cc mustang & they say 8 channels will be plenty for her, it can be setup with just 6 channels with retracts if needed, so all good in that department ? I won't be using any TX pack for my futaba set, I've always used Eneloops for my TX over the years, much prefer them than the usual premade TX packs ? I've had a couple of bad experiences with "budget" packs over the years, so now I tend to stick with branded for peace of mind, I have a Elysium LX60B Pro charger which I use a lot for my SLA's & NiMH cells, lets me manually adjust charge rate & discharge etc. But for my planes I wanted a separate charger & new packs, so decided to go with the Spektrum charger as it was cheap/simple & has good reviews which is good enough for me ?

    10J or T12k?

Yup, Radios ? I was looking at others but the local club I'm intending to join use Futaba, so i really want to go with this for the link-up with training etc ? Great info thanks ? And my type of flying will be Scale as that's what I like ? Yeah, I was looking up the "Radiomaster T16" but as i mentioned above, my local club use Futaba for training & also the Radiomaster uses Open TX which isn't too "User-Friendly" as they say! So, after reading what you said & doing a little more research, I decided to go ahead & purchase the T6k, the chances of me needing over 8 channels will be very slim & the 6k isn't a silly price! It should be with me beginning of next week! Also purchased a new charger & battery pack (I don't think the 12v SLA's I use in my boats weighing around 8kg each would be suitable! ? ) I bought the Spektrum S150 Smart Charger & a Spektrum smart battery pack (2000mAh). In the future I will purchase the 4000mAh smart battery pack for longer run times, but for now the 2000 will do just fine! I have to say, the charger is a very neat bit of kit, its VERY small/compact & it charged my battery pack up to full in about 10 mins, so I'm quite impressed, only downside is it mains only I think so no charging with it out in the field I don't think ? but for the price, I can't complain & like I say, in the near future I will purchase the larger capacity pack, so I will have both packs fully charged when out so should be plenty ?

    10J or T12k?

Also what about the T6K? As this now supports up to 8 channels & comes with same8 channel receiver as other 2?

    10J or T12k?

Hi guys, apart from number of channels supported, what are the differences between these 2 radios, I was set on buying the 10J for my planes, but then the T12K has more channels so would be more future proof, is there any major differences between the 2? Is the 12K a better radio. Each radio comes with the 8 channel receiver, I'm new to the RC plane scene, The radios are 10 or 12 channels, but they only come supplied with an 8 channel receiver, am I missing something here? Does this mean that I would only be able to operate 8 servos max using this receiver? What if my model uses 8 servos, but then I also wanted to operate some lights on/off remotely using one of the TX switches etc? Any info appreciated! Cheers ?
  5. Cool ? Yeah ive had a few different Futaba sets in the past, never had issues with any of them, I was looking at the T6k (which now supports 8 channel) but I'm not quite sure if that would be ideal for my P-51 as its minimum 8 channels so thought the 10J would be best option & be a little more future proof. As for the discount on the Mustang... Ya never know! Might be worth a shot!! ?
  6. Hi guys! I have the Eflite retract kit for my P-51 Mustang, but the grub screw in the retract kit doesnt fit the stock struts that comes with the H9 Mustang (Grub screw is too large). In the elfite retract manual it says there is an optional strut (EFLG 500 Series Strut) ..I've had a look around but only one i can seem to find is for the H9 P-47, does the P-51 use the same strut? Or I could try using a tap & die set on the stock strut, so the grub fits, but I'm not too sure what size the grub is on the eflite kit, any ideas ? ?
  7. Update on the damaged flap, The model shop I bought it from decided the best solution was to replace the whole kit as the flap was beyond repair & replacement flap would not match the wing I had due to the print, so they just exchanged the whole kit which arrived today & all looks good ? I have to say that Kings Lynn Model shop were brilliant in terms of Customer Service, hard to find good CS these days so it's good to know there is still some out there who look after their customers still! ? I'm going to start the build over weekend, I also picked up a Boomerang Trainer to learn on, ? next on list is TX which I've decided will be the Futaba 10J, I'm going to give the Boomerang a once over to check/tune engine & setup the servos etc, then next weekend I shall visit my local RC Plane club ?
  8. ? I could, but 1 slight flaw.. I'm not a member of a club yet lol ? but will be soon, I'm visiting my local club tomorrow, been exchanging emails etc with the chairman, seems a frient club so looking forward to taking a visit there tommoz ?
  9. As I say, it's broken and the print is damaged, the print can not be replaced. If you are familiar with the hangar 9 20cc mustang model (I don't know about others) the print is not sold separately. The whole model comes pre covered in print vinyl of some kind which matches up to each part. So even if I did fix the broken balsa, I could not replace the print! I've been in Contact with shop, and it's being sorted this week, even if it did take a couple of weeks, I still don't mind waiting ? To be fair, the damage was done at factory I think, as it was well packed certainly not thin cardboard as you have experienced) all parts are packed with boxes within boxes, thick heavy duty plastic bags, foam and so on, so I'd say it definitely wasn't during transport, and the flap was taped to the wing and not freely moving around. So I'm guessing QC was on a Friday afternoon for my plane!
  10. Hi guys ? Reason why I bought the ARTF kit so I didn't need to do any difficult building so to speak being my first model, the flap was damaged and some of the print was also damaged and this isn't sold separately, so it can't be touched up. The shop are going to sort it. I have no issue with building as like I say, I've scratch built models and enjoy it, but with a brand new ARTF kit I was not expecting to be doing damage repair while building it due to damage in transit, even if I was an experienced builder of rc planes, I would still want a replacement part as I've paid for it and it's new ?
  11. Some new parts arrived! 8x Spektrum A6380 E-Flite Retracts Servo Extension Cables (Various lengths) Opto Remote Kill Switch Glues/Epoxy & few new tools etc I think I have everything now to complete the build (except the engine which i won't be buying for a good while.. A) because it will stop me getting tempted to just pick her up & try to fly her! & B) By the time I am ready to fly her the engine I want (DLE 20RA) will probably be slightly cheaper! ?
  12. Sooo, I've made a start on the build after getting the materials/tools needed. The first task was to fit the flaps etc. But I already hit a brick wall (sooner than expected!!) But no fault of my own!!.. The right wing flap had damage, was a rattling noise inside it as if some of the balsa/structure was loose, so while inspecting it closer there was damage to the surface (under the wrap) when I pressed gently, I could feel the split in the balsa ? there was also visible damage to the edge of the flap. So I contacted the shop I bought it from & within 2 days I received a replacement flap.. All sorted! ..... Or so I thought ? Flap arrived yesterday, so tonight I decided to continue my build, only to notice that the flap print does not align with the wing skin!! I'm guessing this is the reason why the Flap/Aileron & wing are sold together as the print is done on these parts together for the print to match, so if you source one of these parts separate elsewhere, 99.9% chance the print will not match! As you can see form pics below the alignment is well off on the black/white stripes ? So I've just fired off an email to the shop again so will see what happens, but the only solution I see is a replacement wing with the matching Flap!
  13. Hi Graham, Great advice & I hear you ? Yup im definately expecting a crash or 10 while learning! ..But fear not my Mustang will sitting pretty at home waiting for that special day ? As I say, I will be in rush to get her in the air (well, maybe a little!!) but not until I feel I'm experienced/confident enough! I know some say "Don't build it until you're ready to fly it" but for me a big part of the RC hobby isn't just using the models, it is the building of them.. Infact I probably enjoy the building/modding part the most! So there is no way this mustang will be sat in the box in corner of my room for another couple of years until I feel I'm good enough to fly her! ? I've started the build & although i've hardy done anything as yet (see my post below!) its put a delay on me building her. Agreed! ? But I will be honest, most part will be weekends only, although I will try to grab cheeky weekday sessions now & then if I can sneek away from work! lol ?
  14. Excellent thanks for info and advice guys, I was actually looking at the boomerang, I was going to buy a used one,. The other one was the Arising Star which is also a seagull model, what's the difference between these 2?
  15. Lots of options and advice! All taken on board ? Yup I made another post regarding a trainer model, I knew when I bought the Mustang it would be a good while before I fly it, so don't worry, it certainly will not be my trainer plane ? I shall have a browse later at radios mentioned and no doubt be back with more questions! Cheers guys ?
  16. Hi guys, Yup...this is another "which is best" threads! .. I have had a look through a lot of threads here, but I'm still on the fence to be honest. I need a 8 channel minimum TX for my Hanger 9 20cc Mustang. Manual/Instructions state that I need a 6+ channel, so ideally I would like an 8 channel radio minimum. People have suggested for this model 8-9chan radio. Over the years I've always had Sanwa, Gemini or Futaba, never had any issues with any of them. But now i need a new TX there are a lot more options (especially among the "cheaper" ones. When I say cheaper btw I don't mean cheaper as in poor quality, just cheaper compared to the likes of the big boys (Spektrum/Futaba etc!). So the ones I've narrowed it down to within my budget are these: Radiomaster TX16: I've read lots of good reviews for this radio which seems the best bang for the buck! But the only thing that puts me off a little is this "Open TX" which is the software it uses, and also being honest.. Is I have never heard of this brand personally, so I'm not feeling the "reliability/quality" thing with it!? I believe the software it uses it can take quite some getting used to, and as I'm new to RC Planes in general, I would rather be spending my time learning to fly my RC plane than messing with the software on the TX. FrSky: Again read nothing really but good reviews, but I believe it partially uses this Open TX? Although it does have its own software version too? But again, moving away from the "Big Brands" is FrSky up there with them in terms of reliability? If so what is a good model to choose from as there seems to be a lot to choose from!? Graupner MZ-12 PRO TRANSMITTER HOTT : This is the one I decided to go for originally.....except its almost impossible to buy in the UK & even imported unless I'm willing to pay over £100 shipping...no thanks!!! Futaba T6K or the T12k, The T6K now supports 8 channels but only comes with the 6 channel receiver, so would need to purchase the 8+ chan receiver separately, or I could buy the T12k for around £100 extra, but this will come with an 8 channel receiver & updated features etc. So I'm not quite sure which one is best for me!? Or what other Radios along with compatible receiver would be a good choice for me, like I say something that isn't too complex to setup & is proven & tested in terms of quality/reliability! ..I haven't mentioned Spektrum as it is out of my budget & to be honest, i do prefer Futaba over Spektrum ? My budget really is around £200-250 give or take a few! Thanks in advance guys!
  17. Hi guys, just purchased the H9 P51 Mustang ARTF kit (will be my first build!) Anyone else built this kit that can give some hints/tips for the build ? ? First impressions for me when seen the detail etc were very good. I've not yet started the build, just getting together all the parts/tools/materials that i want/need before a begin ? A few pics of her bare just to get a feel for it ?
  18. Hi guys! Ok a little bit about myself in terms of RC. I've always been keen on RC models, mostly IC type (Nitro/Petrol). Over the years I've built many IC buggy models, my latest was an FG, which i custom built. So I'm not new to IC engines, especially Petrol, but I'm also experienced with Nitro, such as setting up/Tuning etc & my latest RC Project is a scratch built WW2 TID Tugboat which is largescale (1/12). For anyone interested here are some build pics: http://www.tizdaz.co.uk/forum/forumdisplay.php?fid=2 & here are some vids including water test etc: http://www.tizdaz.co.uk/forum/forumdisplay.php?fid=3 ? Anyway onto why I'm making this post!! I've always had a thing for RC planes, but weirdly over all the years I've been a massive RC fan, I have never owned or used an RC plane!! ....until now! (bet you knew that was coming!). So, as well as RC models I also have a thing for WW2 warbirds (don't we all!?) in particular the P-51 Mustang. So after doing lots of research for the different RC ones available, the Hangar 9 one was the one that I set my heart on, soooo I decided to take the plunge & buy it! ? For the record, the quality of this ARTF kit is amazing, very nice detail, looks very well-built, so no complaints as yet! Although at present I've only fit the flaps!! It's a Hangar 9 P-51 Mustang 20cc version, I know this is NOT ideal for a "noob" like myself, And I'm sure it will be a good while before her maiden flight due to my in-experience of flying RC Planes, however, I will be taking my time building it as it requires some building as it's an ARTF kit, I also purchased the Eflite electric Retracts & also 8x Spektrum servos, the engine I will eventually purchase will be the DLE 20RA as it has rear exhaust so will fit in the cowl nicely & out of all the videos I've been watching, the DLE 20RA has the nicest sound for me!, For me building the models is a big part of the fun & also gives a good insight to how the models operate so this in turn also helps with repairs when needed from the knowledge gained when building them! So for this warbird, once I've fully built her she will then be sat in my room proudly, so every time I look at her, it will be my goal (& My personal MISSION!) to learn to fly RC planes good enough, so I can take her on the maiden flight! ..if it takes Months before I feel confident, then so be! I will be in no rush ? So, I've turned my attention to Trainers, there's a few I was looking at, I want it to be an IC trainer as this is what I will be flying, so it makes sense to learn using an IC model. There is a few options I was looking at, but then someone offered me an intermediate plane for a good price, it's the Seagul Decathlon 40, in good condition, it's similar size to my mustang, comes with servos (although very basic/old servos, so I will probably swap them out), I also need to fit an engine. Now I know this is not a dedicated trainer, but is it still doable to train with? Or should I first get a cheapo foamy just to get used to the basics then move onto this to continue my training & as a stepping stone to my beloved Mustang!? Also, I would happily pay for one-on-one lessons for RC Flying, but I have no idea if such is available anywhere near where I live which is Ellesmere Port, I'm willing to travel as long it isn't too far! Anyway any info much appreciated! ? Cheers Daz!
