  1. I picked up this model some time back long before I was able to fly her well tonight was the night .

Jumping in between the showers I headed up to the flying field to give her a go.

The model tipped over on the first attempt due to too quick a release of the elevator. The second attempt was much better up up and away a few clicks of up and a couple of right and she was all good.

Then a strange sound started to come from the plane time to cut the flight short and bring her in. I'll give myself a 7/10 for the landing. Examination of the model revealed that some of the nose weight had come loose and was rubbing against the spinner an easy fix and she will be ready to try again.

You solved the exhaust exit problem a lot better than I did with my OS52.  At the time, I wasn't aware of the right angled exhaust adapters that Just Engines sell.  Either I was too new in the game or they weren't available in 1994.  I tried a platsic pipe through the fire wall and out the bottom of the fuselage which never worked really well.  I mounted the engine on a Paxolin plate, which did work OK.

Good luck with the maiden.  The OS48 will be more than adequate power.

Those Flair models would sell like hot cakes if they were restored to the market.  Even better if they were updated with CNC cut parts.

I really wanted the engine to be enclose it still took some doing getting it all in but worth the effort.

Couldn't agree more regarding the Flair kits I have a Fokker D7 which I love flying (massively over powered with a Saito 100) and another still in the box.

What Mr Steamup has omitted is the fact that the decals are all hand painted directly onto the model.

Makes me sick when I look at my feeble attempts, having seen it during the painting stage I can only say well done Mark, why did you not fly it yesterday?

Cheers Eric ,one lunatic in the club is enough 😆

A stunning build.  My Flair SE5a, my 3rd model after a trainer and a Precedent Funfly and built 25+ years ago, looks like a different kit altogether.  How is it powered?  I converted mine to electric 3 years ago from an OS52 Surpass so I'm interested in your choice.

Thank you for your kind works it's an OS 48 up front

Interesting, I will have a look to see where I can get some, I have some silk dress lining but much too heavy, have you the specifications exact of it and his glue ?.

I do love the Geordie accent,,,

Wow, the lining weight is 60g/m2 so very favourable to Oratex at a fraction of the cost.

  7. I have had great fun building this model added extra detail with plasticard. Also added the riblets (is that what they are called?) between the main ribs to improve the appearance. Just waiting for a break in the weather for the maiden.

  9. After almost running out of old stock Solartex during my last build. I swore that I would not put myself in that position again. I looked for an alternative and quickly realised that options are limited.

I then stumbled on a YouTuber who had used 100% polyester. It shrinks when heated with an iron or heat gun the only problem was how to stick it to the airframe. After some experiments I discovered that Mod Podge applied and allowed to dry would reactive when heat was applied through the polyester via an iron. Shrinking via a heat gun and a couple of coats of 50/50 mix  shrinking dope and thinners does the job ready for a paint scheme.
