  18. Hi all been suggested by mr moderator that people may be interested in a rebuild thread, this is of my De Haviland DH2 a model seen around the shows as long ago as 2002 in the hands of Ian Redshaw, i came to own this aircraft three years ago and have flown it for the last two seasons, however it came to an abrupt end last August at a large event in germany, on climbout after take off at approx 60ft the engine quit abrubtly, now one thing the DH has never had is a glide, it does a very good impresion of a well trimmed manhole cover when the power stops, the technique when this happens is to shove its nose down about 45 degrees or more is required to gain enough speed to flare out to land, unfortunately this requires more than 60 ft so the abrupt "arrival" caused some damage as it came to a sudden stop (well most of it did the heavier bits carried on for a few inches!!) in a recently plowed field, so for those interested i will post some pictures i have been taking during the procces with descriptions of its rebuild, chris
  19. whilst not wanting to get technical here i have another question on the same subject, i have often wondered why the model 2 stoke is deemed to be less tourquey than a 4 stroke, i dont know how it works at smaller engine sizes but in my past life i road motorcycles and my sport was trials, and if we wanted tourge and lots of it a single cylinder low reving two stroke was the man for the job, and if you needed hp that comes from high revs a four stroke was your engine of choice, as a four stroke will rev far far higher than a two stroke, F1 is the ultimate user of extreme high revving 4 strokes, so now i fly larger models and what do we use 2 strokes, and they can be tuned to turn huge props chris
  20. Hi will have to check the other dates, but ifim free Greenacresn is allways a good weekend especially as i only live 30 miles away, the DH2 is currently undergoing a major overhaul and refit, complete with a new colour scheme, after it sufferd some extensive damage following a dead stick whilst at an event in Germany last august, my deadline is for mid May for the vintage weekend at Stow Maries Aerodrome, but i still have a small mountain of work to do, i have taken pics of the work as it progresses dunno if its of any interest on forum at all. but it is progressing, chris
  21. Good evening all for those of you of a WW1 persuasion you might be interested to know that a bunch (if thats the right collective noun!!) of the Dawn Patrol are making the trip to greenacres should be a goodly group! see you there. chris poyser. DP founder member
