  9. I do believe it’s the very same kit that has now migrated to the workshop out of storage for some pre build mooching I have “borrowed “ ai rotary cutter from the dress making dept (spare room) whilst the dressmaker was on her evening walk with daughter, gonna see if it works tomorrow after a visit to flying field Geoff that is foamy tempest checked out two 4 cell packs charged so ready to go not doing the underside Geoff shame on you you do know that I will tell reg and he will check every time he sees it and we will point it out to everyone 🤣🤣
  10. Looks good Bert it may be ok with one coat of balsaloc with fine thread I find that the embroidery thread I use needs 2 in the past I have cut strips with scissors but my arthritic fingers remind me these days that’s a bad idea, so I use scalpel and straight edge but it does need new blades it’s surprising how quick tex takes the edge off I have used the cheap throwaway craft knives too the ones with the snap off blades and cheaper than scalpel blades if you can get some from your local pound shop geoff what time you be there mornin or afternoon its been good to get back in shed I’ve been out of it for a while and this enforced lay-off has prompted me to extract my digit and prove I can still do it as i have a project for a friend to do and this has got me fired up to do it so if anyone’s interested as soon pup done I will be starting on a kit build of a 1/3 scale Fokker DV111
  11. Started on the upper panels today but had to stop as mum taken into hospital from her nursing home and to quote the doc “is not well” so I may not post so often next few days, I will try to be in me shed that’s my diversion from the mad world we find ourselves in. Geoff you done them calculations  yet. Are you allowed out mate if not and you want your wings doing I can pick em up with a 2mtre stick  cheers chris   Edited By ceejay on 19/05/2020 22:38:50

  17. You got it Bert from what I understand, When the stitching was done it was re enforced with some fabric as wide as stitching then sealed with a wider 3inch wide strip, where I got this from or from whom I don’t recall but I have done a few like this now and no ones told me it’s wrong, so I’m fine with it. the final 15 mm (I know it is 17 at 1/3 but I can count in 15.s easier than 17,s) 👍 strip Is indeed torn not cut cos in the real world the edge of the wide tape was “frayed” by the method of pulling out some of the weave threads 10 or 15 per side can’t remember exactly so tearing it is as close as you can get, they never used pinked thread. Geoff you work out the spacing my man I’ll make the jig can’t ( do 3inches / 1.5.5 at this time of night) has Avis got some thread you can steal🤣🤣 let me know if your going up field we can have a socially distancing chat about it bring the wings with you, you thinking of using tex antique or neutral is best it seems a little thinner and probably better at smaller scales Edited By ceejay on 19/05/2020 01:01:48 Edited By ceejay on 19/05/2020 01:02:59

  20. Ooo found a few pics I missed close up of finished tapes and this one is just to show that I carefully go along the edge of threads with iron to make sure it’s well stuck down and it looks neater too also go along the tape gently pressing with the paper wad to make sure all nicely stuck down between stitches  Edited By ceejay on 16/05/2020 19:22:33
  21. As8Then it’s repeat on the other ribs until it’s done next is to turn it over to do underside, I need to use the lighter tapes now as this side isn’t painted so same procedure just a bit more care to make sure we don’t let the covering separate from ribs as it’s undercambered then re enforcing strips on root ends, no stitching just tape last thing to do later is re enforcing tape only on the riblets again no stitching heres the underside
  22. First off I forgot to mention is to mark where your first stitch goes on rib on mine at 1/3 kits 25 mm same as stitch spacing from LE so they all line nicely I      then it’s on with some re enforcing tape over the stitches I’ve gone for 15 mm wide cos I think the tape on the full size we did some work on was 2 inch and so tapes should be 17 mm but 15 mm is close enough and it uses less fabric and you would not believe how much is needed for all the pup  At least a whole 2 metre roll just for tapes and it still looks ok so there.   again nice and easy with the iron to get it in place tackle fore and aft then its slowly again with the iron flat and a wad of paper towel to press it onto the stitching tape and wing surface should look like this   Edited By ceejay on 16/05/2020 19:25:35 Edited By ceejay on 16/05/2020 19:28:46 Edited By ceejay on 16/05/2020 19:32:19 Edited By ceejay on 16/05/2020 19:35:47
  23. Well now finished in the shed for a while so here’s wot I done started on the finishing of the wings now ie rib tapes and perimeter tapes before I embark on the fuselage and tailplane mods first up after having made some rib tapes up and leaving them to dry for a few hours I started on the smallest bit the centre section started of on top surface as I had some tapes I can use whilst t others dry, I’m using the olive drab ones cos top surface on pup will be painted so here goes first one. tacked on LE andTE then it’s a gentle touch with the iron And some finger pressing to stick it down not to hard with the pressing down.
  24. Cheers mike not heard of that myself but sounds reasonable to late for me I will jus feign ignorance if asked
