  1. Hi Bill Oh dear, and there I was beginning to think I was at last going to be famous for something in my life having been the first to build the E-Pioneer  Thank you for responding to my post. I rightly or wrongly took advice from one of the helpful Gary's at BRC re a second battery for the RX & Servos. He seems to think that the chosen motor /ESC/ battery set up as I have listed above would not be a problem. I understand many of the calc's etc but I suppose until I understand all of them it I'll just have to trust the guidance of others. I am a Radio Ham in my other life so have a fair understanding of these things but it still seems a bit of a black art to me at the moment. So what are your motor/battery/ESC etc ratings...apart from the extra battery do they differ much from mine? As yet I have not yet purchased the plane so have little idea as to the detailed layout and thus was not able to fully understand your comments about the wheel servo rod, Y cable, I assume  your talking about the nose wheel ? Sounds like its mounted  in the way of things a bit, stopping you from adjusting the CofG maybe. At the moment I do not intend to steer the wheel, once I'm sure of landing  the plane I'll maybe install a servo for it then. Thanks for the tip about the motor support, will the kit contain a choice of support or did that come with your motor.... Regards Jon Ps I'm on Hayling Is near Portsmouth...where are you?
  2. Hi Timbo Hope you got my YES PM first?

  4. Hi Timbo...thanks for your promt reply, have read the PM.... Am I correct in saying the BC6 can charge from 240v or 12v (using a step up system to charge a 14v battery).....can the IMax....? do you know what other beifits has either over either? Jon
  5. Ok.. get it now...landing without wheels!...made myself feel like a real newbie now... I have sent Timbo a PM but no reply as yet.....He's maybe busy flying even! So do I buy or what...I'll just wait for his reply....first....then I'll take the plung....oh yes... I'll need some shade's too...just to look the part you understand

  9. eh! I have been searching this Forum for any mention of the Seagull E-Pioneer and have drawn a blank! Am I the first nutter to try this kite?  or should I get cold feet about it ?....come on - somebody must have had one before me....your making me very nervous about parting with my total worth !        I'm getting very sheeppish about the whole idea....
  10. Hi guy's Sorry to hear of the flash over....all this tech stuff is a bit over my head ....but only just today I was talking to Gary at BRC Hobbies about a new 2500 battery etc and he said without any prompting from me that I should be more than careful with it as any short circuit will cut its life by at least half and could kill it altogether. Seems that some sort of very fast fuse is needed here..or is that just what the ESC should have done? I'll sit back now and follow this thread to its conclusion..... Once more, sorry to hear of it...best of luck....jon
  11. Hi After being helped by this forum to get started flying and also to get a flight simulator set up and working  the bug has really bitten...its now time to get a that A licence. I am about to order the Seagull E-Pioneer Trainer  (see RCM&E Mar 08 page 118) plus a whole load of other goodies from BRC Hobbies. The whole lot is going to cost over £400.00 so I don’t want to buy the wrong plane or motors, batteries & chargers etc that are not future proof. My club instructor fly's only I/C models him self and has said that he cant get on with electric...ok... so I'm looking to hook up with others like me and may be a mentor or two to guide me/us along this tricky electric path!. BRC Hobbies have already both advised (they were extremely helpful) and quoted me for the plane and all the other bits I would need to get it in the air and so that I will be able to do a few of the tricks that I can already do on the Phoenix Simulator plus to be somewhat future proof.   Are you in a similar situation ? if so lets get in touch and help/talk each other all the way along the electric high wire! or are you able to be a mentor to any of us on this thread... Thank you John
  12. Hi Chaps I'm a happy bunny now as the postman arrived today with my JR PCM9Xll and a copy of the Phoenix Simulater. I loaded the sim onto my HP vista laptop and also the DirectX which were both on the disc..and bingo it all worked. Pluged in the 9xll and once I found out how to change the TX over to PPM I was able to set it all up and complete the calibration . Been flying all afternoon!... very impressed ... Only problem I have is the TX handbook has been sent using snail mail due to its weight. The phoenix Help is very help full..but I must say that without all of you chaps and the help you have been (not just on this thread I might add) I would still be waiting for a no wind day! Thank you..Jon
  13. Hi Shaun... Seems I'm missing a driver, D3DRM.DLL.. windows looked for it but cant find a copy for vista...wonder if a copy from an old XP version would work.? Any way I have joined the RCM&E and ordered a JR 9XLL plus battery, charger and some RX bit's from Probuild.com for just £175. Also a copy of Phoenix for vista... have a done right? I shall be at the next club meeting which I think is at Fishbourne Nr Chichester but at the moment am parked up in my motorhome near Northalerton North Yorkshire but cant fly as the weathers not dead still for me! Thanks for the tips... keep them comming as I'm here to stay & learn, have flown slope RC guilders about 12 years ago but only ever leant how far it was to the bottom of the hill to collect the bits!
  14. I started with computers before you could buy a PC, by building my own  bit by bit and having to rebuild it over and over again, I can also remember all the changes since the first PC's came on the market right up to having to buy a new machine just as you have  Eric... its been the same story all the way along. I think thats what they call progress, dont it just hurt....I wonder how many times the Wright brothers had to rebuild before it flew ok and howmany designs have come and gone since! There is a PC wise guy who lives near me who is making good money re-converting Vista based machines back to XP for many vista suckers just like you & me. But he runs vista on his own laptop...!!! wonder why Chin up mate it will get better just like XP did...but then it'll all change whem MS need some more cash. Regards from one more long suffering progress follower ...Jon
  15. ok thanks for that... we are off in the motorhome up to northyorkshire so hope to get a bit of fly time in then but not sure if we'll be back by the 8th...you know how its is with us retired early types he he I have been in direct email contact with Timbo and he has proved to be a real help. hope to be up and running with a sim soon. tell you about it when I see you John
  16. Hi Shaun whens the next club meet?
  17. Hi Timbo Do all the sims you talk of work with all the controllers? and do they all have buddy links or what ever they are called? Jon
  18. ah ...so now we know who to blame for this Vista thing eh!.. I agree, we may as well get used to Vista as its here to stay just as XP and all the other attemps by MS to get it right have been. anyway thats not the reason for my posting... So If you were me which TX controller and Sim would you buy... Is a Phoenix a bit too upmarket for the likes of me or is that the way to go? if so since money dont grow on trees and her indoors holds at least one of the strings..which Sim and controllere would you reccormend
  19. Hi Thanks for getting back to me Shaun... The connection is via a audio input to the mic input of the PC and then you have to set up the audio side of the PC and addjust the supplied s/w to respond correctly. but its a no go-wer...
  20.  Think I may have posted this in the wrong section of this forum as I got no replies so here it is once more ########## Hi  I have only just started flying but have already clocked up 72 crash landings and a total of 184 hours of repair time!  but am finding it harder and harder now to crash as I have either improved a little bit or am now enjoying a spate of good luck!!. I have been self training on private farm land (with the owners concent) on a 3ch Wing Dragon and am about to take delivery of a 4ch version. eh... also I have jioned the RCM&E and am trying to join a local club near Chichester on the south coast. but its a bit far as I live on Hayling Is, Hants.  In the RC Aircraft kit was a ART-Tech R/C Flight Simulator CD which will not work on my new Vista Laptop or on my old XP Laptop ( old one has problems anyway)  Could any of you good chaps please advise me on a suitable flight simulator that would work with it on my vista laptop.  It would be nice to use both the supplied transmitter controls and the audio connecting cable that came with the kits, to make it more realistic. I don’t have a joystick only the flight controller that came from Art-Tech. Or should I buy a new transmitter controller and simulater, say phoenix, or  what do you think is best for me . I have a fast laptop with vista & USB skts etc etc but the ART-Tech has no USB skt and dont work on vista....Which do you think would be the best for me. A cheap Sim and contoller or for the longer term should I set my self up with a more improved combination which may be cheaper in the long run.   Sorry, if this is covered elswhere in the forum but being a newbie I just hav'nt been able to locate it  Kind regards John....
  21. Hi Thanks for your write up on the sim...very good 2 questions ? Will it run on Windows Vista ? and where can I get a copy? thanks Jon
