  1. Galaxy Models usually have some good deals eg http://www.galaxymodels.co.uk/results.asp?subt=ARTF+Electric%2FGlider&offset=20 Can't go wrong for £135
  2. Not sure if I've already entered but  yes please
  3. Thanks Frank, that's great. The maiden was flown mostly at about three-quarters throttle so I reckon with more gentle use (which would be more up to my abilities) I could get some more time out of each charge.  The prop used was a 11x5.5 so is it the case that if I used an  e.g. 11x7 I would be able to use less throttle for a given speed and maybe increase flight time that way?
  4. Just a quick update. The Pulse maidened this weekend as originally built with just the Turnigy UBEC, no other batteries etc. The club's resident ace flew a full 10 minute no-holds-barred routine (thanks Steve) everything seemed nice and cool and the battery still had a good charge at the end (15.4 volts).I'll be interested to see how much longer it could have flown, maybe another 5 mins?? Anyway,  thanks for all your helpful comments here
  5. Thanks all for your responses It would seem the consensus here is that Nigel may be a little over-cautious and that my set up will probably be perfectly safe with adequate cooling air throughput. Andy - I'm interested in why you think the 5000 4S is a rather big battery - you also mention weight and if this is the reason for your concern, I would say the model's AUW is 5.5lbs which is within the range appropriate for the XT40 I think this weekend may be the one to give the Pulse its maiden. Let's see what happens....
  6. In my yet to fly Pulse XT40, I have a Turnigy Plush 60 ESC that is labelled as a "UBEC - 3A/5V ver 3.1". The plane has 4 standard servos and is powered by a 4S 5000 Zippy LIPo. The receiver is Futaba 2.4ghz In this month's RCM&E, Nigel Hawes says he will not fly electric unless his receiver is powered by a separate battery, regardless of using UBECs, S-BECs or 2.4ghz radio gear. I assumed my set-up would be safe to fly but now I wonder whether it is right to err on the side of caution. Anyone agree?
  7. I've just returned from an extended vacation in Maine visiting family. My in-laws own a large farm and I thought it would be perfect for some holiday flying, so I ordered a SuperCub to be delivered to their address. As there is a large pond on the farm, I also ordered some floats. The weather on the whole was perfect for flying (sorry folks) and the SuperCub performed flawlessly off land or water. It took the occasional sudden arrival in its stride and just kept coming back for more. If anyone is looking for an easy to fly and robust plane to learn on or just for a bit of fun, look no further.
  8. Got my replacement TX at last (back from long hols). Had to be vigilent though as I was almost given someone's returned TX as my new one (the dead grass and oil stains were a bit of a giveaway). So the new one looks fine, has an 'I'on its base and works just fine. One thing though, I thought from previous comments that the correctly configured TXs all had serial numbers beginning with 8. Mine begins with a 7 as my old set did. All ok?
  9. I've just read the review of the Eflite Sea Fury and it's fine as far as it goes but it reflects a trend I've noticed on more than one occasion. While the narrative is great and describes the build process very well, the pictures were mostly lots of (nice) flying shots. Could we have more pictures showing various aspects of the build, close-ups of motor installation etc, that sort of thing? I realise this model has its own build thread going anyway, but not all review models do. Having said that, RCM&E is still the best read around, particularly as one of its main rivals appears to be no more than a glorified catalogue
  10. I'm hoping they'll hold them for us....
  11. I've just phoned Ripmax and spoke to a very helpful guy who did explain they have had hundreds of phone calls following the announcement. He said that the confirmation you receive when submitting the form is instantaneous (ie it shows on the registration page) and no separate email is sent at that time. We are supposed to receive and email when the date is known for collection of the new TX from our LHS.  And just to put my mind at rest, he looked me up and I was there on the system, so it seems okay (for me)
  12. No email yet - the announcement said that within 10 working days we will be contacted with a date for collection from LHS. Anyone reached 10 working days yet (from submitting form) I have to agree with Kelvin, it is admirable to have all suspect TXs replaced with new, though testing should have debugged any issues before release.....
  13. John - this suggests you have received a confirm from Ripmax? If so, how long did you wait?
  14. The adaptor I have came with the Dualsky motor - it bolts onto the motor and turns with the casing (the collets you refer to presumably attaches to the shaft). The adaptor is threaded and allows the use of a full size spinner (as in an IC engine)
  15. I think it could be solved by a bit more friction in the interface between the prop saver and the spinner back plate - maybe? Anyway, I may look at doing someting in that area
  16. Hi All, I'm hopefully not going to be shot down in flames for this, but does anyone else have trouble doing up the prop nut tightly on their electric motor. I've found that I get to a certain tightness and then the motor just starts turning. In order to get it properly tight, I have to insert a screwdriver though a hole in the cowl and into one of the motor's vent holes. Yes, I can hear you all saying 'What!' but no damage is done by this somewhat Heath-Robinson method. But there must be a better way. Anyone tell me where I'm going wrong?
  17. No David Ashby - has RCM&E been given any more info on this??
  18. Yeah, I thought that might be the case. I was following a thread on the MyHobbyCity forum about people complaining HobbyCity couldn't supply the Lipos that were on back order. HobbyCity  said a large proportion of their stock goes out to wholesalers. I received my Zippy from Foamyjets last week while the same model is still out of stock at Hobby City !!
  19. You can get Turnigy from Foamyjets, they use the same supplier as HobbyCity. Otherwise, Al's Hobbies supply the excellent Dualsky range...
  20. Tom - why do you need to convert to Mode 1? Must've missed that one... As everyone's (?) having a whinge, I'll add my 2 cents - I submitted my registration form last night and I still haven't got my new TX....;-)
