  1. In essence its the same as using a 12v battery in your flight box, just the electricerty has to go through the car first...
  2. Hi Tim! I have and Ultrafly tutor 32e too, though its still in the celler, after the first flight oppertunerty was put in its place by snow (why then, after all that time?). Anyway, I'me using electrolyght (if thats how you spell it) 3 cell 2600mAh 20C lipos. I bought mine from modelpower but they are only sold from Budget RC now (if only I could have had thoughs prices when I bought mine...). The ones I bought are not Availible any more though. Great value there I recon (at time of writing.) Also a point of intrest, In the instruction manual I recieved, it recomended 2500mAh to 3300mAh packs, on Sussex model centre's web site it Said 2100 to 3700mAh packs. Whats happening here, I think? On the web site it also says, "Battery advise – For extended flying times it is recommended that you use a 3300mAh 3S 11.1v Lipo battery on the model. It will provide 7.5 - 11min of flying time dependant on throttle usage! If using a lower capacity 2170mAh battery, the flying time would be reduced to 5-7 minutes." If you have any problems with the build don't hesitate to ask me for help, though I can't garrenty being able to, nor to respond quickly... Also where it says it can be built in half an hour, it lies to us mortals. It took me an hour just to do the wings (talk aboutslow...). I hope you find this useful!
  3. I kind of know what it is like; I bought my first order online and read throught all the terms and conditions carefully, all in the shopping basket and ordered it. Three days after making the order SMC (where I bought it from)rang up saying that the coloured trainer I ordered was not availible? So much for the "in stock" notice on the website. In my big box of bits there were a few things missingfor the ARTF- E-mails away... I felt I should give them a second chance, and they just happened to be the only place with what I needed, some 2.3mm shank drill bits, battery holding loops and a prop balencer. The pacel arrive, and I found the most important item had been replaced with normal drill bits... It was another week till I could carry on building my trainer. The problem for me is I have no other alternative as spending my month trying to perswade my mum and dad is rather a long job, takes a long time and generally goes to putty through one silly mistake. Anyway, last time I went to the "local" (best part of an hour there) to get some m4 nuts, I came out with what the shop guy said was them but were infact locking nuts - why should I try and support my local model shop, with poor survace like that I think after buying...
  4. Hi, I personally think we wont beseeing any of that in the near and not-so-near future. They probably would not be able to use it on full sized passsenger aircraft, as you can't be perticually fast or efficient on props, and I somewhat doubt the chances of producing a jet engine that'll run on the stuff (but who knows?), so I think the Aviation side of the technology (keeping it light, ect) will be restricted to light aircraft. This means that advance for the technology would be slow, and even slower because of the fact that you could buy a time proven aircraft, like a Piper Cub or a Cessna Skylane, much more cheaply. Also If a light aircraft to run on hydrogen fuel cells is developed then you would need to find a source of hydrogen to refule it, and if I remember correctly, there are only two petrol stations in the UK that supply it and I very much doubt that any airfeilds will be using it in the near future. Also I wouldn't want to have a compressed gass cilinder in my trainer, and peaple probably go for elecric flight to get past the problem of needing fuel, and if you do IC then you wouldn't want to rekit your whole fleet with electric stuff. This would mean that there would be no mass market apeal for manurfactures, making it unprofitable and slowing the advancement of the technology for model aircraft even more. Sorry bruce but I recon there won't be and hydrogen powered model aircraft for a long time yet...
  5. Welcome, and what timbo says is true; I've certainly had my fair share of help from here!
  6. Having just bought and started building a Ultrafly tutor 32e, I discovered I had a few things i was unsure about with the radio. I bought the trainer with preinstalled sevos, along with my Futaba 2.4 GHz radio set (I thought I would appreciate the quality servos more later). The problem is that the servos for the futaba set are red, white and the other coulour( cant remember right now) and the Ultrafly ones (ST40s) have orange red and brown wires, and no little notch at the side to make sure they go in right. I dont know which way round the plug should go. The second problem I have is do you need a switch harness/ switch in a electric model and it so does it go on the wire that goes from the esc to the reciever. And is there supposed to be a seperate BEC wire to the reciever as well (there isn't one on my ESC). All help would be mouch appreciared, and I'me sure I'me not the only beginer with the problem. Thanks to anyone who replies again!
  7. I've got the honeybee cp2. Its dead hard to fly (I've only flown it once) and when it says preflown in the factorey it doesn't mean pre-trimmed! Flight sims are brilliant for practicing, and if you dont fancy spending £100 or whatever it costs on reflex and co. you could try downlaoding FMS (type it into google) or try http://n.ethz.ch/~mmoeller/fms/index_e.html. A word of warning though: I have doubts about the acuracy of the thing, but its free, and you can download more models if you want to, but you have to find them first! Is also probably worth bying as sim controller. I got mine here.
  8. Well, I'm stil on the trainer, but one must think of the future! Count me in please!
  9. you learn a new thing every day eh! I appologise for the incorrect recomendation.
  10. might as well try, but I'me not going to win, but on the upside, someone has to...
  11. Would have to be the Douglas Sky Raider for me. probably best as a 500w ducted fan model for lipos...
  12. Thanks to both you guys! Its so nice to be able to ask a question and get good answeres isn't it. Thanks!
  13. Try a) ebay - though I spose you cant always trust it b) the robotbirds.com (if thats the right web adress off the top of my head) lpl (low price lipo) range. c) giantcod.com (or .co.uk or something) d) vislero lipo availible through Sussex model centre e) zippy lipo range availible from brc hobbies f) electrolight lipo range from Modelpower I've never actually tried any of these lipos, except the electrolights, but I spose in lipos you probably get what you pay for! hope this helps!
  14. I am building my first rc plane (a ultrafly tutor 32e) and am using deans connecter. How exacterly should I go about it? I thing the way to do it is to hold the butt of the wire against the pin or whatevery you would call it and go textbook, but am worried that this might melt the plastic bit of the connecter! Any help really (lots of times) is appreciated! Thank!
  15. Not being any kind of expert on the matter, surely the thing to do is to get more then one NiCad pack, take it apart and rebuild it with some of the cells in parralel? I dont see why not, so it mystifies me to see that no one else has surgested it yot... Hope you work something out eventually, and I'me jealoug of the plane (though I've only done sim's for now).
  16. Gwilym, did you get the 32e? If so is it any good; I can't find that review you mention. I am considering it. Thanks!
  17. since everybody seems to be explaining the box art, i won't bother. Your articals are great thought, you are my favourite along with Nigal hawes. Guess which type of flight i like...
  18. did I mention they should all be for electric power, if possible 2100mAh 3s 11.1v lipos if possible?
  19. hi, I think that these rarly done ones would be nice: 1. De-Haverland Dragon 2. Gloster javlin 3. Miles Messinger thanks, hope these are chosen! copy my choises Guys! - or if they are out there, Guyettes!
  20. Nothing wrong with trying... Of corse I probably will not win... mabie if I become religius and pray for it?!... he he he
