  1. Hi Frank,
I think you may be getting mixed up with brake fliud.
I'm pretty sure DOT 4 is brake fliud and that is hygroscopic .
Auto trans fluid is normally quiet thin, and usually red in colour.
I'm sure someone will correct me if i'm wrong.

  2. Hopefully weather permitting we will be doing some sound tests tomorrow on Area 51's .

    using Biella 22x8

              Mejzlik 23x8

               Vess 22 A

               Vess 23A

              graupner sonic 22x8 22x10

One with slimeline muffler, and one custom built by Weston UK  i'll post results if we get the weather on our side.

      Paul.

  3. Hi Martin,

Any exhaust that fits a DA will fit the DL .

To get them quieter, you will probably have to use a pipe or can which costs.

I use slimeline muffler on my Area 51, did improve a bit but it needs more work. I've just got hold of a pipe and can from China ,hopefully it will do the trick .

what prop are you using..??What size and make..??

  4. Fuji electronic ignitions are famous for causing interference, because they are not shielded as well as they should be. Sometimes you get a good one sometimes you don't...!! There is a multitude of things to try to cure the problem, but you need to do it one step at a time. The spark plug needs to be a resistor type ( which you have already checked) make sure the spark plug cap is a good tight fit and move the ignition unit well away from your receiver.

Try these things first then take it from there. Let us know how you get on.

  5. Sounds like hydraullic lock to me

make sure you havn't got excessive fuel in the engine 21/2 turns out seems a bit on the rich side.

Is the engine inverted.? if so, try starting it with the engine is in the upright position.

  6. As you may be aware ,the British Freestyle championships were due to take place this weekend at Old grammarian's Wellingborough

Unfortunately due to awful weather forcast the event has been cancelled.

A new date will be posted  as soon as possible.

    Many Thanks

  7. I think the engine needs to spin somewhere near 500 rpm to get a decent spark to fire it up using the magneto, doing that by hand is quiet a tall order, as you tune the motor it might get better.

Thats one of the advantages of electronic ignition easier starting .

When it comes to tuning take a look here  http://www.flygsw.org/  under tech site everything you need to know is here.

  8. Hi Doug

If you use the rcexl unit it only has one magnet .

Timing up is straight forward ,as an engineer by trade I shouldn't have to many problems with the setting up( famous last words..!!)

The biggest problem will be where to position the hall sensor,( and that isn't to difficult) then as Joe say's measure twice ,cut or drill once.

Having said that I havn't done it yet ..!! I am going to stay with the magneto on this one see how it works out ,and progress from there.

Although fitting a electronic ignition works out more expensive, there is big weight saving's to be made, plus they start easier.

The procedure is well documented on rcu along with loads of other mods .

  9. Found it the other night Joe, not that easy to find though ,but worth it when you do.

Wealth of infomation on the subject ,just got to find a home for my conversion ,four star 120 is looking favorite at the moment.

  10. Starting a magneto set up can be troublesome, have you tried putting a starter on it

You could go electronic route for easy starting, but then that put's the price up.

The carb mixture screws are set back inside the housing of the carb, and a special tool is required for adjustment. However I managed to get them out and cut away at the housing to make them accessible,

just got to put an extension on the screws so I can adjust them easily without loosing my fingers..!!

It's all to do with emission control.

Just waiting for parts to turn up ,decided to buy parts in see how it's done.

This won't be the last ...!! these strimmers and chain saws are just to cheap..!!!

  11. You say it only runs through half a tank when you fill it ,are you sure the tank is filling all the way to the top ?.

Your next step is to fill it and look to see if the tank is full.

If  your  vent pipe is straight then when fuel reaches the vent  its giving you a false reading because the vent is not near top of tank  The fuel doesn't have to reach top of the tank before it starts to flow down the vent hence why you are only getting half tank runs .

putting bends in the tank vent pipes will cure that ,but make sure they don.t touch the side of the tank so as to block them off  guess how  i know about that..!!!

    Hope that makes sense
