  4. I once saw a guy launch his slope soarer without switching on the model...it did a graceful U turn and landed back on the hill. Then, later in the day, he did it again.....'controls full and free?'
  5. Ah! I've heard Mike's been having some....fun!...with that.
  6. Good link Chris, thanks!  Flew the Bombay at UMFC Friday before last and will hopefully be there this Friday 4.00-4.30 for a couple of sorties, weather permitting. Will I see you there anytime? BTW, flew the 'stang yesterday on an old speed 600 I found in dad's box of bits and a 25 amp esc...and halfway through the 2nd flight it all went quiet........my deadstick landing was actually better than the planned one..
  7. dug out my old Robbe(?) Mustang from 10 years ago which flew like a brick on a speed 600 and nicad.... what size/kv brushless motor/esc  will bolt straight in there and do the same (or far better) job-using a 3s lipo and 9x6 prop? (preferably an inrunner so I don't have to modify the airframe) ooops might help if you knew it's about 42" span and weighs about 2.5lbs (I did say it was a brick!)Edited By Yorkman on 04/08/2010 17:40:01
  8. Has anyone got experience of this kit? It looks really good in the pics and there are a few vids abouto it obviously flies...and looks very scale. I'm reeeeeeeeeeally tempted...

    Flap question

Posted by Pete B on 24/07/2010 12:27:23: How did you do that, Yorkman? I'm flying an E-Flite Beaver with a Dx6i, with ailerons on separate channels and the flaps on the gear channel, with just one position (which I can alter between flights). I use a servo slow on the flaps. If there's a way of using a mix to give me two position flaps, I'd love to know!   Pete  Hi Pete quote- Mix 1 FLAP-FLAP ACT RATE D +111% U -22% SW MIX       TRIM INH With that setup switching (I think-haven't flown it for a while!) the mix switch gives 'takeoff' flap, then switching 'flap' gives full flap. Of course, if you swich 'flap' first, it goes straight to full flap, so you don't.... (I may have got the switches reversed, but it will be obvious when you try!) And the amount of flap is set by the % values in the mix. If you're using the gear channel, then I imagine substituting 'gear' for 'flap' and using the 'gear' switch should work too. Let us know how you get on.

    Flap question

I have a Dx6i and flaps on the York-with the mix function it is set up with 'up' ; 'takeoff' and 'landing' positions (about zero, 20 and 45 degrees) and works perfectly fine. But the flaps on my ASW17 are infinitely variable (including a bit of negative) so they can be 'tuned' in light lift conditions-which isn't required for a power model (well, not normally!) I can't see why infinitely variable flaps would be required on a power model.
  11. My BMFA membership hasn't turned up (it lapsed a while back as I wasn't doing much flying) so I won't be able to fly-unless it flops on the doormat tomorrow-but may pop down for an hour or two sunday morning to see what's going on, though the forecast isn't great...
  12. I'm hoping I might make it for a couple of hours sunday morning...depending on how my saturday goes! Look out for the York
  13. Is it on does anyone know? I see from its website that the BEFA has been 'dissolved' so not sure if the events calendar is being updated...
  14. Discovered that it's actually as simple as that. Bombay after its first flight with the York buried in the grass in the background!
  15. Posted by Yorkman on 27/10/2009 16:51:40: ok, have come to the conclusion, though it's not mentioned in the manual, that the throttle can not be programmed as the 'slave' channel. If anyone knows different, please let me know!  Guess I'm right with this, then-as no one has been along to argue!
  16. Posted by Big Phil on 15/06/2010 20:48:13:  Any pictures Yorkman                            B.P  Edited By Big Phil on 15/06/2010 20:48:32  Hi Phil-there are some pics of it in my album-don't know how to add pictures to a thread, sorry!
  17. Got a couple more flights out of it now-it's proving to be a litle more 'interesting' than at first thought-as usual! So some experimentation needed with c/g, control throws, and Tx mixes, but overall I'm very pleased with it, I've just got to get the trim sorted so it can be slowed a little better for landing and it will be fine. Meanwhile I'm finishing the u/c and need to get some sort of paint finish on it! Hoping it might make it to Middle Wallop this year if any of you guys are going to be there.
  18. So slightly less efficient, slightly heavier...but no significant change re current draw etc. I will give the 3-bladers a try on my next venture out.
  19. What would be the effect of going from a 2-blade 9x6 (electric) prop to a 3-blade 8x6 i.c one? I understand a reduction in thrust due to smaller diameter, but what else? Just a loss of efficiency, or will the motor require significantly more current? Or, more simply, going from a two blade to an identical sized three blade on an electric?
