Essjay
I have a couple of now defunct 3 cell lipos where one call has become unusable. I know I could possible convert them to 2 cell, but I really don't want that sort of hassle. What is the accepted (safest) method(s) of disposal?Steveps.sorry, should have posted in "electric flight" section
Tim Mackey
Puncture the case, and immerse fully in salt water for 24 hours I believe. Then they are safe to trash.

Tim Mackey
Steve, I should have mentioned that puncturing them should ideally be done with a non metallic object such as a sharpened lolly stick or something similar. IF you are able to completely dischrge them to 0V first, then probably just letting them soak in the brine will suffice. The purpose of the soaking is to ensure they are fully discharged before disposal, and if they are punctured first, then the solution will soak through the electrolyte more thoroughly. Being immersed underwater is also a safeguard against them igniting !I see the BMFA have now issued guidelines re: liPos.http://www.bmfa.org/resources/lipobatteries.html
