I have just recently purchased a New Sig Four Star 20 EP, I am currently waiting for it to be despatched to me.

I am planning to put a ASP 0.30FS (four Stroke) in the plane and wondered if anyone has had any experience with ASP engines and could tell me their opinion on them.

Also I would like to hear from anyone who has built and flown any of the SIG Four Star range as I would apreciate any tips or hints they may have and what they flew like.

I plan on beginning the build as soon as I recieve it, which should hopefully be this week.....can't wait!

I have an ASP 40 two stroke from Just Engines & it is very good,
with a very reliable idle & smooth pickup.
They're an 'OS clone' & very similar to SC engines.
I've built a couple of SIG kits (not Four Star unfortunately) & they are
generally good with excellent instructions.
My main gripe was that most of the balsa was far too hard in my examples
(Kobra & Kougar). Some pieces, such as fuselage triangular sections,
wouldn't take pins without pliers assistance!
They do fly well however.

Thanks, I heard the engines were much the sam as Magnums which were based on earlier OS Engines like the SC Engines are, although I did hear ASP are more reliable than SC Engines.

I noticed most of your planes are electric I considered this myself but the setup cost from IC to Electric is quite pricey.

Amazingly you seem to have all the planes I have considered in the last few months including the Sig Kobra, Galaxy Magician/Wizard, Galaxy Scorpion and the Flair Atila. How do you find these planes to build and fly?

There isn't many Traditional Kits on the market these days

Hi Tony,
My current favourite is the Kobra - it flies really smoothly for a smallish
(45" span) model & flies 'on rails'.
The Scorp. is good too but mine could do with a tad more power - will experiment
with props I think.
The Atilla is great for relaxed flying. It will fly very slowly & will cope
with a reasonably high wind.
I Haven't flown the Magician for a while - but it goes well on a 40LA.

The Galaxy,Flair & Sig kits are all different to build. The Flair Attila is a lovely
model to build - lots of open structure.Galaxy kits are veneered foam wings
with balsa fuselages & are as strong as a brick outhouse.
The Kobra has a built up wing /balsa fuse which is also very strong.
I enjoyed building all of them, but perhaps the Flair kits have a slight
edge in overall quality.
Getting started in electric is quite pricey, but much cheaper than just a couple
of years ago.
Chris Foss kits are good too!

Cheers

How good is the Sig Kobra at taking off and landing on a short runway, My flying site has a fairly short runway with a fence and hedge either side, some of us have had difficulty slowing fast planes down enough so we often over shoot and have to go around again for another go.

I usually give the Kobra a fairly long take-off run by building
speed up slowly over say about  20 - 30m, but I'm sure that this
could be shortened quite a bit by using full throttle from the start
& hauling it off earlier.
The Kobra has quite a deceptively large wing which is quite thick
& has washout built in. It will fly quite slowly enabling it to be
brought in gently for landing - it doesn't need to be flown in at
speed.
I think it would be suitable for a short runway, but don't underpower
it.
