Spring Machrihanish Fun Fly

Recommended Posts

The first of the 2011 Machrihanish funflys has now been confirmed for the weekend of 6th to 8th May. This wonderful event takes place once again at MOD Machrihansh on the Mull of Kintyre. We have a ¼ square mile of tarmac to fly any and all disciplines off, including jets (inc pulse jets!), helicopters, sports models, scale models, control line (inc Pulse Jet!!!), & free flight.

Basically if it flys, it is welcome, and the LOUDER the better as we have no noise restrictions!!

On site there are toilets and secure overnight storage for all the models. There is also mains power for charging. There is no on site camping but details of local sites and accommodation can be given. The place where most of us stay is here http://www.campkintyre.co.uk/ Chris and Dave are very welcoming and allow us to fly 'park fly' type models on site.

The whole concept of the event is to have fun, and one of the major rules is that you have to have fun! For anyone that is interested, we are trying for a mass flight of 'Novices'. I don’t mean beginners, but planes designed by Sid King and kitted by Ben Buckle. The first year we had 3 airbourne together (not easy with little diesels), in ’10 the record stood at 7 models taking part. This year we really want to break double figures so if you have a Novice, bring it along and join in the fun. We also try and support local charities, and with this in mind we ask for a landing fee for the weekend of £10 with all proceeds going to Macmillan Cancer Support.

Finally the most important part of this event is that due to the nature of the base, this event requires pre-booking and this is to be made no later than 24th April. All that is required is your car registration and no. of people in the car.

For more info and to pre-book contact Bryan Passey on 01546 602918 or email [email protected]

Time to highlight this again Hopefully I shall remember to do it again a few days before the closing date for People to contact Bryan Passey.

Some of you, just a few, read a rival mag and may have seen a photo of one of last years events. That particular photo was taken quite early in the day.

We hope to see some of you there.

I might even have to learn how to post pics on here, or maybe offer some for the Magazine. Can't have the rivals getting all the good copy,

Time to highlight MACHRIHANISH FUN FLY MAY 2012. Full confirmation was delayed due to the ongoing Site "Community Buyout".

All sizes and types of flying models catered for, from Chuckies to PULSE JETS and we can fly in any wind direction as we have a four hundred yard square of tar surface to play on. We have use of a building for the weekend, although we cannot guarantee mains electricity. It is also advisable to bring in your own Fresh Water. I shall try to bring plenty in as well as a gas cooker and kettle.

We cannot camp on site, there is planty of accomodation and camping nearby though.

Friday 4th access/flying from 5PM, Saturday 5th and Sunday 6th flying from 10AM till whenever as no official evening close time.

Only pre-registered access is allowed altough registration is painless, contact Bryan Passey as soon as possible.
