Cotswold Models "Square One" by the look of it.

Hi Pete,

I bought this one unfinished and by the look of the instructions it is probably a couple of decades ago, the stamp on the booklet shows that it was purchased from "Modelcraft" of Coventry but i am curious to know a bit about it.

As Peter said its a Cotswold Square One designed by Sid King I think. Modelcfraft being the center of all things Club Twenty for a time would of sold them. Club 20 wasnt just pylon racing then ,there was a scale class and a aerobatic class. The Square One was the 20 size trainer. Sid also did a cracking little taildrager aerobatic called the Grass Hopper all for 20ish size motors. Yours maybe a latter version as Stan stopped making kits for a while due to health reasons.

Thanks Roger, the plane has been flown a couple of times since i posted the pics and flys in a very forgiving manner, have just replaced the fuel tank though as running out with the size of the original was leading to too many dead sticks although it decends in a very kite like fashion and gracefully.

Hi All, this was the very model that got me into RC.

My Dad bought me a Cotswold Kits Square One trainer in the 1970s from Modeldrome in Manningham Lane, Bradford.

It had an orange fibreglass fuz and I remember it well, even down to the fatefull maiden flight at Filey clifftops.

It was powered by an Enya 19 purchased from Ken Cropper of Bridlington, and controlled by a sanwa 4 channel proportional radio system.

My Dad did a full loop on take off and stuffed it straight into the deck, and calmly said 'thats that, then'

Whilst laying in my hospital bed after a motorcycle accident in 1995 my wife asked me if I wanted a few magazines bringing in to pass my time, I recollected my early RC days and asked her to fetch in something to do with model aircraft.

She returned with a copy of RCM&E.

As they say, the rest is history......

I had one of those, although mine was labelled "Cotswold, Square One", having made it as a kid, 30 years later it had its maiden (2012) after I retro fitted ailerons. It was perfectly balanced on the bench but once in the air it would only turn left. It came down safely but was declared unflyable, too heavy and underpowered not worth the effort in fixing it. I'm still delighted that it flew the once.

I believe mine to be the very same, I would love to get my hands on one just so that I could fly it.

Im sure my Dad would be watching when I did.
