Andy Croft
Hi all I am a complete noob to the rc aircraft hobby but have purchased a dx6i with pheonix before deciding which trainer to buy. I have been flying around with most of the models and now have a good understanding of the controlls even when they reverse lol, I stumbled accross this forum while looking at the bmfa site where i also found the achievment scheme. I would like to know a little more about the a cert and can it be practiced on pheonix 4.0 and which fixed wing should i practice with. Also as we can fly online are there any people to practice with ? Thank you in advance Andy so hoping that spring comes soon so i can put simulator to bed and practice the real thing!!!! Chris Bott - Moderator
Hi Andy and welcome to the forum. Sound's like you're taking a very sensible approach indeed. A few guys here do have online Phoenix sessions and I'm sure they'd be happy to help you. A simulator will take you a long way towards learning but don't expect to be able to go from that straight to flying the real thing on your own. It's certainly possible, but that route is very likely to lead to broken models. Ask any questions you like, someone will generally know the answer. I'm going to pop over to the Phoenix thread and ask the guys who frequent there, to have a look here. Cheers Chris
Andrew767
Hi Andy.....No reason why you shouldn't practice the "A" on Phoenix, though the viewpoint makes it a bit tricky. Just try with one of the trainers on there. There is a Tutor 40 which might be a good place to start. Andrew
Bill Brown 3
Hi, like Andy, i`m fairly new to actualy flying but not to building planes, i bought the R.C. Planemaster to have a bit of insight on the controls (only because it was cheap on e-bay) and also invested in the expansion pack for a greater choice of plane and flying enviornments, it has some very common factors though which i do not believe are accurate, if i fly a jet (iam aware i`m no where up to this stage) it does not matter how level and slow you bring it in to land (and it makes you fight for level) it will inevitably go "bang" and break the plane, but if you fly the Spitfire, Messershmitt or a plane of similar specs it might land with a bump, leap back in the air and settle down without a hitch, also if whatever plane you choose gets a bit distant, and even when you are well aware of its orientation it will suddenly do a vertical figure of eight and crash without having moved a control peg, whats that all about ? Modonaut
I was surprised that in the 'tutorials' Phoenix 4 did not mention doing circuits and full landing procedure. I should have thought it could have gone in to that more- not saying that these procedures aren't covered well elsewhere.
