geoffrey cowpland
I am building a DB sports and scale model of a Spitfire and am about to start the covering. I have purchased some olive green Polyfilm for the top but am wondering what colour I should use for the underneath. Can anybody help? Marko
Hi geoffrey all depends on how true you want to make I guess ! . What "Mk" is yours as that narrows it down a lot !! some early mk's were half black and half white down the middle ,some duck egg blue, or sea grey, got any pics
Bill Brown 3
This is a Mk v Geoffrey, I think sea grey as it is a blueish light grey.
Colin Leighfield
I think the DB Spitfire is a Mk1. As Marko said, you could go for the half black, half white or duck egg blue. That would give you the 1939/40 BoB era finish. I think Mk1s hung around for a long time in training and communication roles after they became obsolete as fighters and perhaps ended up with a later dark sea grey/dark green top and light sea grey underneath, although I don't know that. For me a Mk1 is all about the Battle of Britain and I'd be looking to finish it appropriately. To get it right though, you really need to paint it.
