neil Mclean
Way back in 1966 Aeromodeler magazine gave away a plan for a free flighter called POPS. the Model aircraft plan service number was PET 918. When the plan came out i managed to build it in an evening or two from my stock balsa. I mounted an ED Baby 0.5 cc engine in it and set off to our local disused airfield (Thurdistoft) near Castletown in Caithness. I should have known things were not going to turn out well when the engine started after one or two flicks. Long story short the aircraft took off like a goodun climbing steadily climbing and travelling downwind quite quickly with me in hot pursuit. She was last seen entering cloud at about 1500ft heading to Orkney. I had over fuelled the tank. So now that I have grandchildren i am looking to rebuild the POPS and teach them some proper balsa bashing. I also intend to install some radio control if someone out there has a plan i could purchase or copy. Best Regards Neil
