Kit Carson
I have a EMax 2805 outrunner brushless motot and a SP esc and need to test them to see if they are working correctly. I am sure one or the other isn't working so need to test the seperately. Can anyone tell me how I go about this. Kit
Tim Mackey
Well I guess you need to start by trying one or the other on known good alternative - if you have motor that definately works, hook up the ESC to it and if it works then the ESC is good.Do the same with known good ESC and see if the motor spins ( dont fit a prop for the tests )
Kit Carson
Thanks Timbo but I only have these so cannot do as you suggest,I was hoping I could test them with a meter or servo tester
Tim Mackey
well you could do crude test of the motor by setting the meter to resistance range, and measuring across 2 wires a t time. You should at least see reading to confirm that the windings are not open circuit.Hook the ESC up to a battery and see if there is a voltage on the BEC plug ( the one which goes into the receiver throttle channel ) - you should get around 5 V when setting the meter to DC volts range. This at least confirms the BEC circuitry is OK.
Brian Parker
As Timbo says plus….Has the circuit, transmitter, receiver and battery been checked? Windings should also show open circuit to casing with the meter set to resistance. With the meter set to mV and again across pairs of wires in turn, spin the motor by hand, meter should show a small voltage.
