I have been thinking of an autumn club project, a model everyone can afford and can fly fun competitions.A flying wing is easy to build and will not cost to much. My experience with Zagi wings are very positive.  This Wing seems a lot like a “reverse Zagi” with the positive fuselage that can be equipped with a landing gear.  I started the build tonight at the club and will start with the original setup. Next step is to get at simple gear to be able to start and land from the field strip. I will also see if a “Zagi profile” foam wing will enhance the glide characteristics of the model.   If everything is going my way there will soon be 20 Fling Wings in our club. /Patrik

I am actually looking for a glider as my next project. This one seems to be the right size for my car.

We carry a golf ball with the plane and try to drop the ball as close as possible to the hole. The balls are numbered and every contendant has his own numbered ball. After everyone has dropped thier golf balls and landed vi start to play the game with a golf putter. Points are : 1 point per decimeter distance from the hole to where the ball landed + 10*number of hits to get the ball in the hole.  The easyest way to fix the ball to the plane is to use a plastic cup strapped om with an rubber band around the plane body or wing - just make a loop or roll over the target. I tried to  mix in some candy bars together with the golf ball to bribe the jury but it didn´t made me win ;-(

I am reading RCM&E since some years as my club is a subscriber. A couple of years back I found an interesting plan and a description telling the building time to be just a day (or two). I realised that this was impossible as we are building 2 hours every week and most of that time is for telling stories and helping the juniors with their projects.http://www.mfksnobben.se/galleri/Hugo/aerovanII.htm   The project started in November 2006 and things went relatively fast with the wing and the fuselage until the question of ailerons arrived. I decided to build very light and the trailing end with rudders are hollow made of 0,8 mm soft balsa. The Ailerons are just the outer part and the part close to the fuselage is used as start (30 °) and landing (80 °) flaps. My next concern was the propellers. A plane like this should have 3-blade counter rotating props. When I finally had made up my mind there had to be gears to protect the propellers at landing.  Finally it was time for test flight with a little wind. The Aerovan II is exactly as nice to fly as described in the magazine and on the Wattflyer forum. It is a detachable box with an included servo that opens and closes the “cargo door” with the flip of the gear switch on my radio. The box was made in the few hours just before the golf contest and after the contest I filled the box with soft candies and dropped it over the kids.
