HI Steve
From a brief look at the magazine the other day I think it's a partly open structure wing, if you are building as per plan, so that rather limits the choice to some form of heat shrink film and you will need to take care with applying that over the foamboard and depron, with regards to the application of heat, though it is perfectly feasible and Correx is a bit better for that. Doculam is another possibility, if you really wanted to paint the model instead. The favoured covering for Correx is normally coloured parcel tape, as it's easy to apply and adheres well to the fluted plastic, but that wouldn't be feasible for the wing, if you are going with the rear bays being open structures.
From your pictures you will have some pretty dark colours to contend with under the covering, so that will influence your choice of colours. A nice contrasting navy blue and yellow or orange is good for orientation. You can choose between lighter upper surfaces or lighter lower surfaces, but having them different does help with visibility. Perhaps you could duplicate the livery of your buses? Or might that be too much of a busman's holiday?
Best wishes for your build and will look forwards to the end results.
Hi Leccyflyer,
I'm going to fully sheet the wing with thin Correx I have,as open structure covering it would be a pain and although full sheeting adds more weight as long as Fundroid is within a few ounces of Mike's prototype I should(hopefully)be fine🤞🤞

So no more going to be done until at least this Sunday as I'm working straight through till then(I'm a bus driver) so long arduous shifts as per normal! I'm lacking inspiration as to a potential colour scheme for Fundroid atm and wondering if you guys could help(ideally different) top and bottom to aid orientation please. Also cover in sticky film or paint?
Many Thanks In Advance

Hi All,
I thought I'd kick start this thread by showing a few pics if my progress on kitting the above design. The prototype is predominantly made from foam board(hardly surprising) as balsa is so expensive these days! Mine is going to be made predominantly from Correx and plane chose itself based on lack of looks to inspire my flying confidence also, here's my progress so far. Enjoy
Cheers

Looks fantastic Cymaz!
I wish RCM&E would re print the TN 72inch Lancaster Bomber again, but as a free plan this time, assuming Mr fantastic himself could be persuaded of course?

Hi Richard,

Thanks Steve, I've recently had a 3 part article published in the RCM&E magazine (September thru November issues) detailing how I built my Correx Hawk so you should find those helpful but if there's anything else specifically you'd like to know just ask.
Your F-15 looked to fly pretty well in the video. 👍
Thanks,
It's actually a very semi scale F22 Raptor,I will definitely look at your articles. I've yet to find other great alternatives to glue Correx together other than epoxy resin(Poundland stuff)coupled with clear grab adhesive.

Thanks for the kind comments all.
Stu: I've sent you a pm.
Your Impala is simply stunning Sir!
Please can I lean on your experience ie do's and don'ts in all area's to produce the best models?
Many Thanks And Kind Regards

Sorry, this is the kind of confusion that can easily occur when people bring an ancient thread back to life rather than starting a new one! As @Steve Adams did here with this thread. Thread necromancy should be banned! At the very least there should be a warning that pops up when you try and post to an ancient thread, suggesting you start as new one instead, Mods, could this feature be turned on? Thx, Matt
Sorry for that, didn't mean to cause confusion and upset as result 👍

Something like this might be appropriate
I'll run the numbers through propCalc when I get home.
Thankyou so much,I used to fly ic in the 90s and only been back in the hobby a year or so,wow so much has changed, but I don't know much about electric set ups and I'm keen to preserve this airframe as sentimental to me but I want it flying again also.

Hi Everyone,
I have an old ic balsa and ply model aircraft that my mate(who is no longer with us) built me and was his own design and was powered well with an Enya 40 two stroke. My question is this plane is 2.5 kg dry 58 inch wingspan mid wing sport trainer, what would be ideal set up on electric ie motor, esc and battery please? Cheers

Hi Guy's,
Sorry to be a pain again would any of you possibly have Zulu E and Zulu ET by Lindsay Todd that you could scan a pdf of the articles and plans please?
Many Thanks In Advance

Hi Steve,Thank you for your kind remarks. I do have a plan for the Bronco but unfortunately when I built it I didn’t add any wood sizes or thickness,as I never thought anyone else would want to build one! I wouldn’t have thought that my plan would be anywhere near the standard that rcm&e would require. It would take me quite a while to put all the added detail on so that anyone could build it or could just wing it with the drawing as is.
I was planning on giving it a go out of Correx/Corro-Plas which a mate gets me for free,so I could guesstimate and would produce a tough model anyway 😜😂😎👌👍

Another two for one project. My O/D OV10 Bronco 60in span that I designed for pss and electric that I’ve repaired after an oops! All the wiring is installed so all I have to do is spend half an hour inserting motors and props and then down to the field for a flight. All built up construction and plaster plug made, then sent away for vac forming.Controls are ailerons, flaps, rudders, elevator and throttles when needed.Does anyone else use an airframe for power and slope so they can get more bang for their bucks? I always try to design my scale airframes to do this, saves building two aircraft!Even build two wings for twins or multi engine and one fuz.
I'd absolutely love to see a plan of that in RCM&E,it's gorgeous! Would you consider drawing a plan up at all Sir?
Kind Regards
Steve 😎👍

I think your aircraft look amazing Simon! I'd love to see TN design some more obscure British and other countries jets in edf form, printed in RCM&E. You are also a terrific designer and builder Sir! Please keep all your designs coming,I always watch with interest and am in awe of your creativity!
Kind Regards

Good Evening Guys,
Could anyone point me in the direction of a plan or kit of one of these please? I remember the Crossfire so well and always wanted one,but never got round to building one. I heard sadly Howard is no longer with us now. It's a great shame, because he was a terrific designer and builder and an all round great guy from what I was told by all who had met him. Many Thanks And Kind Regards

Hi Rich,
Is there any chance of you doing a plan for this autogyro for either RCM&E or can I buy a plan off you please? It looks so cool and almost retro art deco thirties era about it!
Many Thanks And Kind Regards

Good news,
This has now been submitted to the powers that be, unfortunately it may be a while before it gets published as there is a canard in the latest issue, bad timing on my part so my apologies.
When I get chance I will put my usual shopping list together for anyone who wants to give either a crack.
One of my friends has kindly volunteered to beta build the canard version, I am sure he will post here on his progress once he gets started.
Is both versions ie canard and delta Shifty to be published together Rich?
They both look brilliant 👏 👌 😎👍

Neil,
Nice job on yours 😎, you cant go wrong with yellow. I look forward to hearing how you get on once your patch has dried out, the winter months will give you ample time to knock a few spares up 'just in case'.
Affair,
I'm sorry, I thought I'd replied to your post but it looks like I missed it, your blades are light at 30g and would probably make your Gyroo a bit sensitive in roll. Like Neil has done just add tip weights into each blade to bring them up to spec, they need to be inset into the blade in front of the cord-wise CG.
This is just testing the water :
I've been thinking of scribbling up a 'Gyroo II', this would be a pusher version using the same modular build as the tractor version, similar in size so as to utilize a lot of the parts from the Gyroo (blades, head, plates, servos etc).
I must admit I have way too many projects on the go but if there is enough interest it could jump to the top of the 'to do' list.
What do you guys think?
Rich
Definitely one for the future Rich, however I'd love to see you publish your beautiful Twister Autogyro first please 🙏 😎👍

The plan is coming along nicely. Just some annotating to finish off on the main fuselage sheet 1. The wing sheet 2 is 75% done, requiring mostly annotation to complete. Meanwhile I am progressing with the build and taking pictures for the RCM&E article. All a bit slower than I anticipated, due to unforeseen family events taking precedence.
A large balsa order just arrived so I am making up a plan pack for a couple of mates who will be additional build guinea pigs, just as soon as the plan is done and early copies are made. Just to prove that the prototype wasn't a fluke 😉
I'm keen to move on to a ducted fan version which I've decided will be stealthy in appearance like the Tempest or Raptor.
You Certainly have a fine eye for detail that plan looks absolutely terrific, well done!👏 😎👍

Hi Guy's,
So I'm thinking of either sanding off or using some sort of spirit(somehow?)to get rid of blue to take back to white on this Correx as will give a better base for painting or filming. I have used Correx before to build some tiny F22 Raptors for mates, but still have MUCH to learn about this material and ideal ways to deal with it in all situations. 🤪😂🤣
