Hi all, I've just finished making Tony's Hurricane, and she flies beautifully! Now awaiting the plans for the Spitfire. Can anyone provide a list of the wood that is needed to build it? I just want to get a head start! Its going to be electric too - anyone built electric?

Hi Bill, I too used a retract servo as the mechanical retracts need 180 deg of servo rotation to go from full up to full down position. I guess you could use a standard servo, but you would need a really big horn to get enough push/pull to work the retracts fully. I ended up cutting all of the bottom of the former out with no apparent loss of strength.

Well, finally got my computer up and running, so here is the footage of the maiden. Well done Bryan! Fantastic flying and landing! I too have maidened the hurri (semi successfully ... came in WAY too fast for landing, overshot the landing area and flipped it when the wheels caught on the thick grass) But alas only VERY minor damage, and she flew GREAT! I was a bit worried about how id handle it as ive only been flying around 8 months, but i reckon if I rest my fears about stalling during landing and slow it down the landing will be fine. My computer crashed recently so i'm still reinstalling but will post some video soon - any hints about the flight would be greatly appreciated!

Just bought some digital scales and was pleasantly suprised by the AUW of the Hurri. Came in at 3.4kg which equates to 7.5 lbs! I think Tony's came in at 3.75kg. As this is my first scratch build, it is definitely NOT my building technique - I put it down to the great Balsa i got from Auzac (Balsa importer based in South Australia) who got me exactly the densities of Balsa i asked for - that has to make a big difference.

I've only got one more sleep until I maiden my Hurri - wind in South Australia tomorrow only 4 km/h!!!! Can't get much better than that for a maiden! Will post some video of the flight once done. Good luck for your maiden on the weekend Bryan

Hi all, I went to maiden my Hurri today, but got down to the field and it was blowing a gale, so I thought otherwise! Took a few photos of it though including one of my grandfather who flew Hurri's in Burma in WWII. This is a replica of the plane he flew. I still need to do the finishing touches of antenna / guns etc but that can wait until after the maiden!

Hi all, good to see there are some more of you doing this great build! I've had mine on hold for a while (95% finished) while i build up some more flight hours to have the confidence to fly it! ...only been flying for 9 months or so, but put in lots of time on the sim as well. Tony says this model flies much more scale with some rudder input during turns, so ive been practicing that as well. Its all painted up now in SEAC (south east asian command) colours along with the registration number and little cowling picture that my grand father had on his hurri in Burma during WW2. The other variation is that i put a dust filter on mine as that is what the hurricane IIc had. will post some pics shortly. Anyone flown there's yet?? Charles have you remaidened?? And anyone gone for a 3 blade prop and if so what diam and pitch did you use?? Mid July is going to be my maiden.. so in the meantime more hours on my 36" edge 540 and the Hellcat i've just bought!! finally finished covering the hurri and epoxied the tail. I'm going to paint it in SEAC colours (South East Asian Command) and fit a dust filter under the cowl (prev pics) Any hints from anyone on painting if i dont have an airbrush?? Do i use spray cans or just the plain old brush??? Any help would be appreciated.
