  1. its almost as if he enjoys it... As for me I have just had delivered to me a almost new O.S 46LA i found on ebay. Lovely little engine and from what i can tell not too bad to start. Enough power for my first Acro plane but also great for my trainer (when i get one). as for starting up, havnt done yet, as I dont have a plane to put it in... when i do iIwill post the experiances here though.
  2. nice, very nice. as stated above though, id be worried about the stability of that if it was my model
  3. have been doing something simmilar, but with alshobbies rather than steve webb.. ill have a look there now, thanks.
  4. small update: Just won a couple more things on ebay:  4 Futaba Servos + Extras (£23.10 inc delivery) O.S. 46LA (£26.00 inc delivery) Again, dont think i have done too badly getting things from ebay. What you guys think?
  5. VTOL is definatly an interesting project. im sure i will come up with a good few designs (i have already). and im definatly certan i will post them all up on these forums for advice/ideas.
  6. humm, kinda cheats with differant motors for the functions. i mean more like the harrier and jets that utilise the same engines for the vtol as they do normal.  A great site i found the other day is http://www.awatson1.fsnet.co.uk/ problem is that the guy who made the site hasnt updated since 03 and hant replied to my emails yet ill pm you my email addy, all i will need then is the servo's, charger and recciver battery.
  7. nice to hear it has been done, would love to do that. Ha ha, dont worry, it will most certanly not be my first building project. i have a couple others in mind first (partly because i want to build a few first and seccondly it will give me the knowledge i need to know how to build em.)  As for the trainer, I think I may ask my family for one for the xmas period.  On another note, just got a Worn Futaba FF6 Tx for £25 inc delivery, think it was a good deal, im not to worried about the visual damage. Think i got a good deal there? Its perfect for starting. Now, on to getting a recciver , recciver battery and a charger.
  8. well, not to be ambitious. but i have yet to find a vtol model that can both land and take off as eyther vtol or normal (ie take off vtol then swap midair to normal and carry on)  even then, i think that the engineering involved should keep me busy for some time. been thinking up various solutions to the problems encountered
  9. always been interested in vtol aircraft, and wanted to make a model one. Bit over my head at the moment, but doesnt stop me plotting and planning.
  10. ha ha ha. in my bank account at the moment is about £150 left of my overdraft. i realy cant afford a new one... Best i can do at the moment is money for x-mas and see if that can do it...  I do have a job atm, so my funds are going up nicely, but still... when you have a 2k overdraft some things are a little more important. Once i have about 300-400 im hoping to start properly thinking about buying a Rx/Tx and model...etc.  Currently im just keeping an eye on E-bay and aquiring bits and bobs cheaply.  For example: just bought a Futaba G155 Gyro for 99p (+£5 p+p Steep postage, but for 99p on the unit itself i cant realy complain). I know what your all thinking, as a learner I dont need a gyro, but I have an 'project' in mind that i would like to do at some point, and I cannot say no to a £5.99 gyro.
  11. ha ha... someone at the spell-checker central offices should be given a swift slap for that one
  12. got outbid, so meh... its one of those things where you can find alot on ebay, but getting a decent deal isnt that easy.  might try the other adea for 2nd hand.
  13. Found a Futiba R137F on ebay, fairly cheap, bidding now
  14. bidding on an ebay transmitter at the moment, any reccomendations on a good 2nd hand recciver for the Futaba 6EX-PCM .
  15. Looking currently at the http://alshobbies.com/shop/lookupstock.php?pc=4628&Desc= But it says it works with ppm and pcm selectable... what does it mean pcm selectable?... would it be cheaper to get a pcm rather than a 8 ch Futaba FP-R138DP (http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Futaba-FP-R138DP-8-channel-35MHz-PCM-receiver-RX_W0QQitemZ170272721282QQcmdZViewItem?hash=item170272721282&_trkparms=72%3A1298%7C39%3A1%7C66%3A2%7C65%3A12%7C240%3A1318&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14)? and will that one be compattable?(slightly differant model number to the one that al's hobbies says)
  16. am i the only one who is looking at http://www.bmfaclassifieds.co.uk/detail.php?id=69411 and thinking a bit too good to be true?
  17. well, im tempted to just start off with a basic tx/rx then maby move onto the one i linked above... what model/price would you think would be decent?
  18. well, for a 2nd hand one i would be looking for the 35MHz band, as it would be alot cheaper... hence considering it.
  19. had a look through the classifieds and fount nothing that caught my eye. anyone got any good starter radios i can get cheaply, or best off to just buy the new one
  20. yea, thats what i was kinda hoping for, future proof, but still not hugely expencive.
  21. Been doing some serching, the inital good looking first tx was going to be the Multiplex Cockpit SX. However, it seems that this isnt a very common tx, both on the field and in general to buy. So i carried on searching, i have found what seems to be a great offer on a Futiba 6EX-FASST tx/rx set. Anyone have any experiance, or thoughts on this one? I want a tx that will be fairly future proof, and common enough so that i can find people who can link up and teach me the ropes. (the 2nd point involves a visit to my local flight site, i know, but at the moment i cant afford any of this. Call it wishfull thinking/planning for x-mas if you will)
  22. count me in, this trainer would allow me to start up the hobby
