  1. Thanks very much for the various inputs. Delighted to hear the Boomerang is a bit more robust than it appears to me. I will leave the undercarriage as it is at the moment and if it creates a problem will change. One problem I do foresee is the engine mount.  When I had it off to adjust for the engine it did not compair with other mounts I have.  It is attached with bolts to captivated nuts in the bulkhead therefor hole centres would need to be the same without have to alter.  Any ideas where this mount can be obtained?  Sorry to have hijacked your posting Rodger but I'm sure you will be getting the benefits from the various inputs
  2. Always broke Thanks very much for your positive input.  Have found this forum a bit disappointing and very pleasant to see some support to the newcomers.  If you look at the number of views this post has had it pretty poor.  Consider I may put on an extreme headed posted to highlight the lack of support If I moved to a tail dragger would the undercaraige have to come forward? I have an aluminium type frame and is it better to be screwed to the base or held with rubber bands.
  3. I have just built a Boomerang which is also by Seagull. Very easy to build although the instructions leave a bit to be desired.  They have you fitting undercarriage, engine and then  tail section, which if you follow makes the model all to difficult to handle. Beware of the "strong covering".  I managed to puncture the  wing very easily by not being carefull enough when joining together.  Must have left something on the bench.  I also did not cover the wing with cling film when joining and got a bit of epoxy over the wing and the colours do not like acetone. Overall I am satisfied but will need a bit of tuition as I am not to sure how robust it will be in the enivitable un-planned landing.  Yet to take it out as it was a bit gusty at the weekend. I have an old Maracado which I am renovating.  It has foam wings covered with vineer, however, looks a bit more robust.  A good bit heavier than the Boomerang but will do as a trainer. Hopefully this weekend will be kinder and there will be a tutor at the field.  Will keep you informed and good luck Edit  I am not an expert and hopefully somebody more experienced will contribute
  4. In the first instance I aquired a VG600 system.  After a comment made at a local field it suggested Futaba was the preferred and I thought I would have difficulties/delays.  I then managed to pick up an RD6000 to make me selfsufficient. On reading the instructions for buddy box operation the VG600, RD6000 and the buddy lead instructuions all say not to power the trainee(VG600) as it will take power from the master(RD6000).  It don't work that way and requires both to be switched on.  Xtal only in Master Any comments?

What glow plug shouild be fitted to this engine? It will be fitted in  trainer if that has any bearing? Thanks in anticipation.  Had done a search but found nothing in forum
  6. Andy Thanks again for information  "3D"  ???? Is this pylon racing? Jets - No chance. Scale - I consider this may become to much "has to be right"  Just want  to enjoy a day out  but dont want to be limitted by model
  7. Andy Thanks for your information. I understand what you say and I am under no allusion that once you can take off and land that that is the end of the learning proces.  As far as I am concerned this will go on for many years.  I was  trying to assess if a trainer has limitations in how it can perform
  8. Eric Thanks for th information. Am I correct in assuming high wing are normally in trainers and sports have low wings? Hope correct terminology
  9. Thanks Bert. I have of intention of making any changes to dihederal.  I was interested to no if this model would be an advancement from theBoomerang to the next step up which I assume will be a sports model
  10. Currently assembling a Boomerang and learning a lot in the process ie expoxy gets everywhere so need to cover up well. I am looking at a second model that has been built and has no dihederal, again with the big wing top mounted.  Will this model allow more manouvers than the Boomerang?  Unfortunately I do not no the name of the model. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&item=280277603239 Any comments much appreciated
  11. Well got there. I fished cellotape in the inside to gather the bits together then put on Solartrim. Looks not bad although not as tight as the rest.  Solar suggests you can tighten with a bit heat but at the moment dont want to chance my luck.  Will invest in the other colours to complete the job.  Its the underside so will not be to visble in the pits and not so appartent when up. Astonished as to how easy it was to damage and makes me fearful of the bushes at the flying field. Project is now on hold. I have an old Maracado when I tried to learn 10 years ago which was a bit bashed and tired looking.  Its a lot more robust for a trainer as it has wing of foam covered in vineer.  Purest may shudder at my repairs as I have cut out parts of the leading edge that were damaged and also cut away some of the vineer and replaced.  Currently renovating an old car at the moment and having stripped all the old solartrim off the wing am using body filler to smooth out. All this gives me more time on the simulator although I cant wait to do the real thing. Will keep posting of progress
  12. The hole is just a small puncture, but its gone star shaped which will leave a hole about 25mm in diameter.  It is within two ribs and the l/e and t/e which is about 120mm square. Had thought of attempting to bring together and hold with superglue, then covering.   The main colouring is white with red and blue stripes
  13. Thanks for reply.  Off to model shop for Solartrim Edit  Can you paint solartrim? May sound silly but the hole is in a coloured area with two colours
  14. In the process of building the wing for this kit and was joining the two halves.  Took extra precautions and covered each half with cling film to avoid all that sticky epoxy going all over the place. Got them joined and low and behold I have managed to puncture the covering which is looks extremely thin film.  Will I be able to simple cover the hole with a solarfilm??? heat type material or what. As you can appreciate Im as sick as a parrot and would be most gratefull for any advice. Im also looking ahead  when the ultimate crash will come and this type of repair will be more than inevitable
