I have a plan for the model I intend to build irrespective of the outcome. The point I was making is it is not a level playing field and however insignificant you consider the additional cost of the plan others may think differently. £12.50 buys a lot of balsa!
-
Not a very level playing field when some plans are free to download and others £12.50 plus??
-
Thanks John, it's the fluffy hinges I have used and in the odd occasion I had to replace found them hard to dig which prompted my question about pinning.

3 Baron

My apologies as I now understand how voting occurs. Still get no info if I select Barron and is this a kit build other than scratch build?
-
When I select Barron (kit???) and not in red I get details of Fantail. Have I a problem?
-
If you can indicate the model you are proposing to build perhaps somebody may have actual experience and advise. I have found you can never have enough balsa so purchase in excess. Are you able to cut sheet into strips/TE etc?
-
Having just renovated my Maricardo i am eliminating this model, however I would say it is an absolute cracker and worthy of a build.
My vote is for the Baron 1914 (free 'Svenson Vicomte 1915' ) particularly as I have plans and is my next build
I have also just scratch build the http://www.outerzone.co.uk/plan_details.asp?ID=7838 which is a smaller version of the Baron and found it a simple build and an absolute delight to fly.
At moment in Spain for another 4 weeks and can't wait to get home and start building.

In the past I have had great difficultly digging out a mylar hinge. Is there any need to pin them?

Thanks Steve for info.Having had a good search on the web it appears that Vsped is required to provide the varying tones. I had a look into the log of previous flights and this is not recorded which suggests thats what my problem is. Will just set up to give audible indication of hight for the time being.
Will order current Rx and vario to resolve problem. Off on hols for a time so will be later on in the year.
Thanks to all who have assisted and hopefully my assuimption is correct
Really enjoying the Taranis as it gets the mind thinking.
-
Steve, do you have different tones for rise and sink? If so, give us the secret please
-
I agree with what you say but sometimes you just have to doodle around for a cause and effect.
I stripped everything out and just left vario but still have the constant beeping when activated. I then put Alt on the telemetry screen along with a function to provide audible height which both worked suggesting to me the vario is ok
I put Vsped on the same screen and during a test flight it never moved which suggests that this is where my problem is. Will have another look to see if I have missed a switch somewhere.
As an aside I got an Orange Tx module and have bound in two models that were Orange and Spectrum on DSM2 so at least making progress.
-
Thanks for that info Bob. Now on 2.0.10 but will delve no further due to lack of knowledge.
-
Updated to 2.0.8 last night, which was very easy to do. Tx now shows updated version, however no screen 13 ??????
-
Thanks for that Phil. Gave it a try but all I get is a constant beeping. Height is indicated audibly and visually so will need to try some other combination.
What i have noticed, although possibly not relevant, is that you have a total 13 pages whereas I only have 12. Software version is Ver. 2.0.1 dated 6-6-2014. Should this be updated through Companion?
I have a number of other questions but will wait until i have resolved this one.

Thanks for that Andy. Will try tomorrow in this Indian summer we are having. Off to Spain next week for three months in motorhome so may take a glider to catch thermals
-
Yes, I have a switch simply to proved Vario and it works ok.
-
Flight 1. Thanks, I have that option in but it only give altitude. I was hoping to get different tones for sink and climb.
-
Yes I have selected Vsped in telemetry
Misprint for L2
L2 a<x, Vsped, -0.3, SD (down)
Will try various options. Thank for your help
-
New to the Taranis but enjoying playing around with the various options etc. However I appear to have hit a brick wall in trying to get sink and climb tones. I have the older style vario connected to a hub which I have been able to accept height readings and get these announced. This suggests to me that the vario is working. My settings are as follows
Telemetry
Vario source -4, -0.6, 0.1, 3
Logical switches
L2 a
L3 a>x, Vsped, 0.3, SD (down)
L4 OR, L2, L3 SD (down)
Special functions
L4 Vario
Any help will be gratefully received.

Hello Chris, yes and I have a set of "kit" plans which unfortunately do not show the section of rib W7 but will compromise or hopefully somebody can assist. I have very recently built the Barronet by Svenson and it was a straightforward build and flies a treat. The Vicomte appears to have the same omission with the rudder as no provision was made for the elevator movement, but easily overcome. I may also make the winner as the next model on.
