  1. Tried again today  no joy!  I've messed with everything possable and to no avail.  Replaced the glow plug, no change. Cleaned out the carb, no change. Strengthened the carb spring, no change. It runs like a dog below 1/3 throttle, exhaust is full of fuel/oil after the engine has been idling for a while so definately running rich, i've tried adjusting the low end mixture but the screw is nearly all the way in!! I cannot lean it anymore otherwise it stalls out when I advance the throttle above 1/3, I have tried! Being brave I adjusted the low mixture with the engine running by making very small adjustments, I can get it to run smooth at about 1/4 throttle but it then just dies when you demand more, at this low needle setting it still runs rough at idle as before, I tried to adjust the low needle at idle it did go smooth but only when the screw was all the way in, it ran smooth for about 3 secs before it died, i guess due to no fuel. Have i got a bad engine/carb?? am I using the wrong plug? have tried 2 enya #3 plugs as per the manual.  WOT is fine - if you can get there! one other thing, if you run WOT for 30 secs or so then quickly pull it back to idle it's nice and smooth, for about 3 secs then it starts to burble and bog down, returning to a four stroking, rough running, oil dripping mass of alloy!!  I'm confident I can do no more, should have stuck with the MDS!!!!!

  3. Hi all, very new to model aircraft, been messing with cars for years, thought I would do it properly and joined a local club (SCMFC) and the BMFA, started with a High wing trainer, this had 4 successful flights before hitting earth at very high speed whilst my trainer was trimming the aircraft, suspected radio failure, anyway not to be beaten by this I quickly got myself another high wing (Arising Star) and a new radio set (Futabe 2.4Ghz), I also got a new engine, the old unit seemed fine but had MDS written on it!!! I'm an aircraft engineer by trade, working at Stansted, hopefully i'll be able to give some advice back........one day!!! Regards, Mark.
  4. Hi Rob, thanks, will try tomorrow, when attempting to get the idle smooth I turned in the low adjuster almost half a turn before it became smooth, perhaps i was being too impatient!!  I've just read an interesting post about metal particles or swarf being in the engine from build, I never checked for this, hope there wasn't any, I thought this would have been plug and play!!!! said the glow plug can become contaminated during bedding in, will also check that tomorrow. Thanks, mark.
  5. Hi, I recently purchased an ABC SC52A-S engine for my trainer, this is installed and running but I think needs fine tuning??  I have only run the engine for 3 full tanks and it seems to be loosening up OK, i've read that these engines normally bed in very quickly.  The problem is in the low throttle running, i've dialed in the main jet, going about 1/4 of a turn out after peak WOT revs (as the engine is still new I thought this would be best) it runs fine and doesn't produce too much smoke, however when i return to idle the engine is 4-stroking, this will clear by blipping the throttle but if i increase throttle to about 1/3 after 5 secs or so it starts to 4-stroke again, this i thought would be a simple idle mixture adjustment, however if I lean the low end setting  by 1/4 turn the engine dies when I open the throttle, I tried to adjust the low end setting with the engine running at 1/3 throttle and got it smooth, but then once i'm back at idle opening the throttle it just dies instantly. Running model technics contest 10 fuel, 11x7 prop and #3 glow plug. Should I not worry about the 4 stroking at low revs?? or does the eninge need bedding in more? Thanks in advance for any help.
