  1. Dave, If you want to use a pod as per original, you could always ask Chris Foss. You'll find his website at the back of most mags. If you want to use i.c. then a ;pod with a small ic engine, with integral tank will be fine. I would prefer to go electric and do a little redesign work to fit the motor conventionally at the front end with a folding prop. The weight of the motor plus li-po battery will help with C of G. Good luck, Anthony
  2. Hmmmm. I've just purchased a Spectrum DX6i (used from Ebay) and am tempted to buy a couple of Rxs from China - Make is RC Pro, Model S603. The ad says they are designed to be compatible with Spectrum DX. Yhey a just £730 odd with postage of only 79p. Am I being greedy? - Ant
  3. Good day all, Have just bought out of Ebay a plan for a slope soarer designed by Roger J Broome in 1987 (Radio Modeller June 1987).I'm a sucker for buying suchlike and have a least a dozen all waiting to be built. However this one looks special. It's traditional build, 3 control with an attractive semi-scale appearance, 58in span. Copies of the Magazine are, naturally, not available, so I ask - does anyone remember this plane? It would be helpful to get a copy of the building/flying notes. Not essential as I can get by without them, but I've learned the more you can learn, the easier any task becomes. Design suggests one centrally mounted wing servo, but I will put one in each wing so I can use all the computer options available to us since 1987! Cheers, Anthony from Lewes
  4. My first RC setup was single channel - one pulse for L rudder, two for neutral, three for right. Can't remember the make, it was brick shaped and had a grey/blue metal case. Bought in 1953 from Arthur Mullard, Meeting House Lane, Brighton.. 1st proportional set was Sprengbrook 27MHz bought from Harry Brooks, Portslade. Moved up to Futaba, Switched to Multiplex - the much hated Cockpit MM. Still in use, but recently bought Fly Sky as 1st 2.4 gig set up. Ant.
  5. Am I the only reader to own a Fly Sky - FS -T6 6 Channel Dig 2.4g from China? Cost around £45 inc postage and Rx. Bought on ebay direct from a PRC Supplier. It seems perfectly ok, apart from the instructions which leave masses of gaps. I had a nightmare time unfathoming a way to fly a delta with elevons. Now I'm trying to work out how to couple rudder with ailerons - just about to build Chris Foss' Phase Lift which will certainly need rudder to help it round the corners. I could, of course, leave the full span ailerons off altogether and fly rudder/elevator, but that would be cheating. Anthony
  6. Good day all, I had to tick "other" as the gear I now use is FlySky. Fully computerised, 20 model memory, but no rechargeable battery pack. I bought it for its incredible price - £45.00 delivered (incl. Rx). It doeas all I want as a non-competitive sloper. It has replaced my 35meg Multiplex Cockpit MM. Which no-one but me liked. Best, Ant.
  7. Good day all, Just read through over 2 years of fascinating thread after acquiring a MP2 Aileron kit in a weekly "antiques" auction. I had been told that the kit had a guide price of £20-40. Always up for a potential bargain, I sat through the sale of a hundred or so assorted lots - China, clocks, pictures, teddy bears, you name it. When the MP came up bidding started at £20. Someone else came in at 25. I then bid £30 and was pleased to win. This turned to delight when I found later that the lot included a 20 year old futaba skysport 6 channel 35meg tx in box with servos and charger - and - a ready built, hardly flown Middle Phase Trainer! All this for £30! I've assembled the trainer, cleaned it up a bit - not sure whether to go with the existing banding for the tailplane. Any movement will play havoc with the trim. I'm inclined to glue it to the fuze and trust that arrivals aren't too fraught (who am I kidding!). It weighs in at 1100gm or 2lb 9oz in old money, with the CG a gnat's under 2.5" back from LE. I'll be chucking it off one of the local slopes to Brighton as soon as wind and weather - and my Manager, bless her, allow. Anthony
  8. Wish I'd read this thread before starting my own build....   I bought a WW Fourier kit in May (from a bargain pile in Sussex MC - about a fiver off their advertised price - bit miffed when I got it home to find the kit was so old, it had no ailerons - not even a design mod. I would have happily paid the full monty for an up to date kit. Serves me right for not opening the box in the shop.)   I emailed West Wings for advice on aileron conv. but don't yet have a reply. So if anyone cld help with plans for aileron conv. I'd be v grateful - If I can find thin enough servos i'll put one in each wing, so I can play with rudder/Aileron co-ordination on my Multiplex Computer TX.   All good advice for Simon from Birdy, Pete, Andy, et al and I'm pleased that I have already gone down many of those roads.   Any advice on dihedral? My kit has a bucked designed in. Left to my own devices I'd keep a smidgeon of dihedral and build in some washout. Thanks once again for such a helpful thread,   Anthony
  9. Am trying to insert pic in this reply, but failing dismally. Can email it separately if anyone wants to see it. But I'll need an email address. Expected all-up weight is approx 20oz Airframe only 10oz.   Ant
  10. Hallo all,   Recently obtained (ebay, of course) a well-finished, Estes rocket powered glider - minus rocket & radio gear. Designed for near vertical climb under power, then glide.   My plan is to install EDF, looking for a more modest powered performance - ie climb to achieve/regain height, so I'm less reliant on the slope/wind direction when I fly on the S Downs.   Dimensions are: 1400mm wingspan, Pod & Boom fuse 6800mm. Mean chord 160mm, Moment Arm 380mm. V-tail, Rudder/elevator only controls. Expected weight 20oz   Planning to fit (with considerable modification to the abs fuse) a 55mm edf unit with brushless motor and 3 cell li-po.   Am I going in the right direction?
