  1. Thanks for replies. OK 6 channels for heli's, but go and take a look and hold the superior handsets to see if they feel better. I guess 6 channels is also fine for the majority of planes too as most entry level planes are 4 channel. So a 6 channel transmitter would offer reasonable flexibility for any planes i may want in the near future (NB: i currently can only claim to be an entry level with planes, and a beginner with heli's.
  2. Hi All Long story cut short. I need to buy a new Spektrum transmitter - which do i need for heli's? Do i need any more than 6 channels? If yes what for? Thanks
  3. Thank you! I will drop by the Al's
  4. Yes Spektrum set. I will probably stick to the Blade heli's as they have a good reputation and spares and reasonably available. If anyone knows of any good stockists of Blade Heli's in Oxfordshire or near by (i'm near to Bicester) then i'd be pleased to know. I have visited Howes Models but they seem to cater more for toy RC stuff rather than higher end models.
  5. Thanks folks. I just dug out my RC Plane Master and it doesn't work on our PC which is now window 10. So glad i didn't order RC Heli Master. I will check out the sim's you guys mention. I guess they come with a handset that resembles an RC one? I am also considering buying an indoor 3d heli and learning for real that way (slowly though). Any suggestions on suitable model welcome...
  6. I have a 3 channel helicopter which i have been enjoying. It's just a cheap RTF kit but i have happily been flying it around the field in low winds. I need to move on and progress and would like a sim to help this. When i learnt to fly planes i used RC Plane Master - in mode 2 which was helpful. I am now considering using their heli sim..... can i ask, shall i stick to mode 2? Or is their any reason to go mode 1? A side note: From current experience i prefer flying my plane. However heli flying is much easier to do from where i now live. Cheers Tim
  7. Thanks guys. Think ive pretty much settled on the apprentice. Do i buy the RTF version with the spektrum DX5 or should i get the ARTF version and a seperate DX6?   As mentioned my longer term aim is to fly a spitfire - would the DX5 be ok for that? In my way of thinking the 5th channel would be for retracting the landing gear of a spitfire and i don't need any more channels of features - is that correct? Im not wanting to drop bombs or anything like that - i just want to fly.   To be honest i am quite daunted by the DX6 with it's many switches - im not sure i would benefit from them and the dual rate settings, it might overcomplicate things for me - i am a novice remember. Also i don't know what 'delta wing mixing' is.... answers on a postcard.   Also, who do you lot recommend for LiPo batteries? Ive got giant cod but who else?
  8. Thanks Alan. Nice to have a recommendation of a tried and tested model. I think whichever i go for i wont be dissapointed so the final choice will probably come down to costs. As i mentioned, i want it to learn with so i can then move on to a spitfire - hopefully afterwards... I'll work out the costs of the apprentice and mentor and then go shopping. I say work out costs as i'll need a 2.4 system too and i don't have motor or ESC either. (SuperCub LP was a basic one box purchase and not brushless so cant use any of those bits).   Yorkman, thanks for the offer! Im guessing you're in the York(shire) area? A tad far from me in Oxford. Thanks though..
  9. Sorry guys n gals - i have just looked back through my posts and it seems i have double posted. I posted a similar thread last year and in short the multiplex mentor and e-flite apprentice were recommended. At that time i didnt buy as had a few other things abosrbing cash. Ready to purchase now though.....
  10. Thanks Eric. I thought apprentice as the parts seem readily available, the wingspan of 1475mm and the general spec of the plane - brushless motor etc.   What other options are worth a look within the similar kind of spec and price range? I would like something quite popular so that parts are readily available.   Thanks Tim
  11. Hi All I am self taught from sim through to my current plane - Hobbyzone Super Cub LP. Its all been going really well and i feel i am ready to progress to a plane with ailerons. I have highlighted the E Flite apprentice as possibly the best model to progress to; thinking it is still best for me to stay with a high wing plane at this time. Though my end aim is to fly a spitfire...   Should i consider any other plane at this time or go ahead and purchase the apprentice?   As an aside note, i found that spraying the underside of the wings on the supercub blue gave me better vision and feeling of the plane at a distance. I'd certainly recommend this to anyone else who is learning. Obviously this is a standard feature of of the spitfire that i aspire to fly!   Thanks all TimEdited By Tim Yates on 21/02/2010 14:15:13
  12. Grasshopper, thanks! It seems a cheap purchase for a first glider and i do like the fact it has a prop so i can get out of any trouble!   David, do you mean turn away from the slope pressuming the wind is coming on to the slope. Means turn in to the wind? Despite making this thread in Sept, i still didn't buy a glider yet. Largely because of weather. Also considering learning a heli but in the mean time have been enjoying my plane
  13. Thanks John!   I know nothing about heli's..... Next quuestion will be about leccy heli's to start with in reality - no hurry on that as i haven't got the sim yet.   Cheers Tim

    Heli sim

Hi I would fly a leccy plane on mode 2. I want to get a heli sim, should i stay with mode 2 for this purpose too - i am unsure if there are similarities between helis and planes....   Thanks Tim
  15. Excuse me if i'm asking a dumb question. My first plane, hobbyzone super cub LP.   Just managed to break the front cowling on landing, wheels didn't cope with landing on a rough rugby pitch so she tipped forwards and cowling cracked.   Anyway, just taken off old cowling and ordered a new one and noticed that the motor, gearbox and prop shaft are not in the centre of the firewall and that they are on a slight angle, not in line with the fuselage. Now at first i thought i must have damaged it but on closer inspection, thats how it was made. Why is this? My only guess is that it is something to do with compensating for the giro effect of the prop.     (A side note: in the same field as me this morning was a guy with a heli, boy do i feel sorry for him (seriously sorry). It sounded a bit wreckless and then went in to pieces on impact, mega ouch!). It looked and sounded like there was a problem with the heli radio gear or servo's.)Edited By Tim Yates on 06/09/2009 10:35:26
