  1. Tony, this is top of my list for a first smallish edf scale jet, whose plan have you got? Thanks Dave Lawson
  2. Ton   She's beautiful....can't wait to see plans and build log.   How about a new thread for the Starlet, I'm sure it will be well subscribed??   Thanks again   Dave
  3. Ton   The Corby is just the right size, but can we see it soon on here? I notice there have been some build notes in the past for plans that were not yet published ??   Looking forward to seeing something soon !!!   I'm not able to photograph my Tailwind at present and would need to learn to upload, etc. Simple I know for those who do it regularly, but not me !! It's just the same as Peter's original so there's no surprise there.   Thanks for info   Dave
  4. Ton   What size is your Corby Starlet and is it to be published in RCM&E ?   Glad to see the Tailwind flying, mine is close to being there needs covering & tail servos fitting, but it is to Peters design without any mods so I am expecting it to be heavy as it's going to be electric   Nice job   Regards   Dave
  5. FD   Thought I let you know that tweaking the wing incidence plus a stiffer wooden prop has transformed this litltle charmer, it now flies well!   Thanks for all your help and the design, whats next?   Regards   Dave
  6. Well it finally flew !!! Required a lot of up elevator to keep it level though so I suspect I need to increase the angle of attack of the wing ??? If so the clever design makes this a doddle !!!   If that doesn't work then I'll build another and look to lighten it as much as possible, maybe a built up tail and rear fuselage, rather than sheet.   Thanks for your help   Dave
  7. Just opened the RF-4 plan to see that it has page1 of 2 printed on both sides, ie: no wing ?? Also no F2 section would that be on the missing page ??   Dave
  8. Reuben   Thanks that's encouraging, I hink we are getting used to "hauling off the deck" rather than seeing if it will take of on its own   Dave   Thanks for response, I am coming to the conclusion that it is down to balsa weights as you suggest   When my pilot gets back I'll let you know   Dave L
  9. Dave (& Reuben) Thanks for your response of about a month ago on my tail heavy problem with the LM on our maiden failure. Sorry for the delay but I’ve been out of action in the interim Details are: Motor 4-max PRO-2827-1000 (140W) weight 50g ESC 4-max PP-TESC20AU weight 19g mounted behind Firewall Servos are HS55’s in plan positions Radio is AR500 mounted in Servo Bay (front) Flight Battery is 1300mah 3S My COG comes out at about 80mm, plan was 60mm as you say AUW is 850g somewhat heavier than plan, covering is Profilm We now think this might fly and that we had a binding problem which has confused the results of the maiden flight, which amounted to a long run and a stall off the ground into the rape field.
  10. We tried to maiden our Luton Minor yesterday, suspected that there would be a problem as has turned out quite tail heavy and getting in to balance at the plan CofG needed a lot of weight in the nose...result is its too heavy to get off the ground.   Can't understand it, built strictly to plan and there's nothing aft of the CoG except balsa sheet...any wild ideas ???   I enjoyed the build by the way, great plan   Regards   Dave
  11. Whoops !!!   Peter, did your prototype end up nose heavy ???   I seem to be heading that way, looks like the battery will have to go way back towards the tail area, certainly behind F3 yet I'd planned to put it in your motor box.   Does that make sense ???   Regards   Dave
  12. Ton   Sorry forgot the cowl...starting on that today!!!   Dave
  13. Ton   Sorry missed your post, this is only my second plan built aircraft and is much more of a challenge than the first, the Luton Minor.   Can't do photographs at present, I'll investigate that !!!!   Found a mate with a proper wire bender at the weekend, so now have a first class undercarriage in 8G as per plan.   Nearly finished making all the parts, currently making up a battery box and motor mount basicly using an extension forward of Peter's mounting box. Then covering and assembly !!!   Thanks for the thread   Dave
  14. Peter   Of course I mean't 8g not 12 !   I've bashed my way through the support wires in the formers using a vice and hammer as suggested, but it's not as precise s I would like.   I've sent for the K&SMighty Bender which claims to deal with wire up to 1/4 inch, but I'll settle for improving my bends in the 8g, can'y see myself ever using bigger diameters.   Thanks for the reply   Dave
  15. Yes I am still into my Tailwind build, am following Peter's plan to the letter, as I don't know any better way !!   Now really struggling with the 12g wire bending, not worked such heavy gauge before and finding it difficult to achieve crisp bends.   Ton, Peter...any advise/ tricks ????
  16. Thanks Peter, all is now clear !!!!!!   Best Regards   Dave
  17. Peter   re your system of Book Tape and Diamond tape for the ailerons and flaps....do you do this before covering so that it in sealed by the covering or does it go after the covering on top of the covering ?   This may be obvious to many but not me !!!! Thanks in advance   Dave
  18. Ton I've been at this one for a while now and have just about completed the wings and am now starting to look at the fuselage. I have a problem with the front of the cabin area so hope you get there first !!! The front uprights are laminated but I can't see how far they go into the cabin roof and interface with the cross members   I'm going electric too and this will be my first aircraft with flaps, and only my second plan build, first was the recent Luton Minor featured elsewhere on this site   Looking forward to your thread developing
  19. DH Dragon Rapide   Fiat CR42 Falco   Avro Anson   Just stay between the wars and you can't go wrong!
