  1. Favourite books growing up and still are  ....  in no particular order of preference,    The Dam Busters - Paul Brickhill Reach For The Sky - Paul Brickhill Enemy Coast Ahead - Guy Gibson Wing Leader - Johnnie Johnson Cheshire VC - Russel Braddon The Big Show - Pierre Closterman Lancaster Target - Jack Currie   Read the covers off all these, plus my favourite fiction ....   Talk Down - Brian Lecomber     Current book of choice,   Lancaster - Leo McKinstry  .....  my dad bought me this for Christmas .... very interesting and comprehensive book about the Avro Lancaster.
  2. Hi Delta Whiskey,    As far as I am aware, the ESC has a few parameters that need setting first before you use it. These would depend on the type of application and model it is intended for.   They can be set with your transmitter, but the programming card is a simpler way of doing it  .....  also, it only costs £4 so it 's not breaking the bank .   I'm no expert, but I would assume that this applies to all ESC's  ......  If I am wrong about this, feel free to correct me anyone  ......    Cheers,   Simon.
  3. Hi Delta Whiskey,    Sorry for the lack of posts recently, but I've been kept busy lately with other things, and haven't  had much time for building. However with the holiday looming large, I should be able to crack on now, both with the Gentle Lady, and the Flair Cub I am building.   The glider's power train is as posted on the previous page. I still need a folding prop, and I am going to get the Graupner one, with 10x6 or 10x8 blades I think.   The missus has bought me the Futaba 6EX 2.4 GHz radio set from Steve Webb Models for my Christmas pressie,   which is primarily for the Cub  ..... (she's a good lass !!)  and yesterday I ordered a couple of servo's for the Gentle Lady along with a card for programming the ESC from BRC Hobbies.   That just leaves a receiver required for the Glider which I will order in the New year.   Hope to post more soon.   Cheers,   Simon.
  4. Seasons Greetings One And All .....     Hope you all have a  Merry Christmas and a happy and prosperous New Year.   Best model flying forum on the Net .....     Christmas sticky buns  .....   MMMM  .....  we likes the sound of them we does !!        We don't like the looks of whats in the pic though .....      Edited By Simon N on 19/12/2009 00:33:52
  5. Here's a change of tack for you  .....    The late, great Luciano Pavarotti singing E lucevan le stelle from Puccini's opera Tosca, recorded in 1978. It's a grainy film, but what a voice ....   See what you think .....    Edited By Simon N on 17/12/2009 22:54:36
  6. Blinkin' eck Timbo  ....  I could have written this post !!    Me and my sister were talking about this very subject to her two kids recently, and they couldn't believe the fun we used to have growing up in the 60's and 70's.   I feel sorry for today's young 'uns as they are missing out on so much ....  they might have more "stuff" than we could have imagined, but I think we were far more blessed in so many ways.   As for enjoying what we've got  .....  is it really that much better now ?     Hmmm  .....  I wonder ?     Simon.
  7. Blimey ......     Accident waiting to happen or what  ......
  8. Here's yer man Clapton  ......   just to sooth the furrowed brow  .....      Talent  ....  sheer talent  .....
  9. Hi Phil mate,       Don't get me wrong, I'm all for people having a go on talent shows and such like, but it seems like these days its all about the short term, and exploiting the winners for a while till the next new  "star" appears.   This seems to be all we get, pushed at us from media everywhere, whether we want it or not, and like you say, a lot of it is rubbish.   I just wonder how many of these "stars" we will remember in 5 or 10 years time ?    Not knocking Susan Boyle by the way ....   I happen to like her version of The Stones Wild Horses, just think that new talent/band's are at a serious disadvantage because of all this malarky .....   Ok, I will get off me soap box now  ......  I've had me rant  ......
  10. Not so much stuck in the dark ages Stephen, just like to revisit from time to time to remind myself what good music is out there  .....    Its a good antidote to all this  "Celeb - pop - factor - x - tastic"  drivel we keep getting rammed down our  throats constantly  ......     Gimme' real band's  pleeeease  .....
  11. Just found this on Youtube  .....    Takes me back to when I was a long haired young 'un   .....    I wore the grooves out on my  "Going for the one"  LP by Yes.   Jon Anderson Rick Wakeman Steve Howe Chris Squire   This track  "AWAKEN"  is one of the finest Rock tracks ever  .... (IMHO) .... it might not be to everyone's taste, but give it a try .....   Even though its two vid's (which by the way are excellent !! )  its actually one long track, so you need to watch both ....            High vibration go on To the sun Oh let my heart dreaming Past a mortal as me Where can I be .....    Excellent stuff .....       Simon.
  12. Cheers mate,      Here's the latest update .....   I have now built the left wing panel up to the same stage as the right hand one.      This means that both the inboard and outboard panels are now built and joined together with the correct poyhedral angle (see below).     As before, I won't go into detail describing the build up, as it is again identical to the right hand wing panel.   Now that both sides of the wing are at this stage, the next step will be to shape the two balsa wingtips, before then looking to join the two halves of the wing together.   Hopefully, I should get this done in the next couple of days .....    Should be getting some radio gear in the next week or so .... finally be able to get moving again with the Flair Cub  .....      All for now,   Cheers,   Simon.
  13. Hi Delta Whiskey,     Nice fleet of aircraft mate  ...    From what I can gather having read lots of the build and conversion threads that are around, the Gentle Lady glider will be fine on anything around the 1000kv size motor.   I like the Super Chipmunk you have, is it the Carl Goldberg version ?  I just ask as I have been reading the downloadable build notes for it recently, and it looks a nice kit.   Anyway, I have progressed a bit more this week with the wing.    I have built up the Left Inboard Panel.  I won't describe it in detail though, as it is an exact mirror to the right hand one.   The only thing I had to be careful with, was to ensure that the front and rear spars lined up properly from the left to the right hand side, as they are joined together at the centre with ply braces, and any step in the spars would be most unhelpful  .....    Here is the panel ....     Next up is the left outboard panel.   Cheers,   Simon.
