  1. Yeah i just got it as a guinea pig really.I mainly fly 2 stroke petrol aerobatic (3d) planes but i wanted something for when the weather was bad so i didnt have to risk my more expensive planes and could still go flying.   So some of the solartrim self adhesive covering cut in a strip and wrapped around the join will be fine?
  2. Hi everyone,   I recently bought a speed air 40 from the wings n wheels show in north weald. It would seem however,That whoever built it did not do a very good job joining the wings.I noticed just before i flew it that they were not joined at the trailing edge.Needless to say i will getting the epoxy out but the wings have a band of white tape which comes in the artf kit wrapped around the join.Obviously it has split where the wing is seperating so i am going to need to replace this when i finish joining the wing correctly. Any ideas where i can purchase this wing tape?   Thanks
  3. I only really fancy doing it as a project because when winter comes i am going to buy a brian taylor plan from traplet of either a corsair or mustang so i will have to cover that as well.Dont want to mess that up so it would be good to practice warbird covering on the cheaper phoenix spitfire.   Is there anyway i can dull down the shiny covering i have?
  4. Hi all,   I am buying a second hand phoenix models spitfire. The covering is very shiny and not very spitfire-ish.   My question is if i decide to recover the plane, what covering do i use to create that matt finish "proper" warbird look?   Thanks Ben
  5. Oh I think I misunderstood when you said you were looking for an engine
  6. I am selling a saito 65 four stroke in the classifieds section. Bought it intending to fit into my texan but I opted for a saito 82 in the end. Never tried the 65 in mine but I am sure it would be more than capable
  7. To be honest watching that video i dont think i would fancy attempting to land there anyway.Less than ideal with a short runway and loads of trees
  8. I have noticed my Texan has some interesting flight characteristics.I put mine into a spin from a stall turn (elevator/rudder/aileron) My intention was two spins and level out,a manoeuvre I have done loads of times on my yak and wot, However it spun and spun and spun and i couldn't straighten up.ordinarily just moving aileron and rudder stick slowly the other way is enough.but the Texan kept spiralling and I almost lost it.just managed to straighten it and pull up but I will not be doing that again.I only fly it scale like now.I may go for a roll now and again but mainly slow passes and strafing dives now. Save the aerobatics for my yak
  9. wish i could say the same.   I had a broken transmitter as sonn as i got to the field.Took the 2.4 receiver out and fitted a 35mhz receiver i had in my box and flew it with my other transmitter.   Took off and flew for about two minutes and it suddenly started climbing for the stars.Cut the throttle and started to circle to land.Managed to get it down after some odd behaviour and found out after i landed that i had no elevator control.   Elevator servo had ripped itself out of the servo tray.Dont know how i managed to get it down.Lucky i didnt overshoot because i wouldnt have been able to go around again.   On the plus side my new gasket in the saito 82 worked and it now runs beautifully   Next outing for my texan will hopefully be saturday if i have repaired it by then.
  10. Problem solved, servo linkage was too tight. However I snapped the engine mount in half yesterday.dead Sticked when I pulled up on a touch and go. Just can't get this saito 82 running right. When I looked at the engine it looks like oil is leaking from the backplate.manual says there should be a gasket which isn't on mine.I bought some gasket paper and made one up today.hopefully should seal and solve my running problem..... We'll see tomorrow, taking the Texan flying again now it's back together. "fingers crossed"
  11. I have now flown my texan 3 times. To be honest the saito 82 is a bit overpowered for the plane though. Its very quick and hard to fly slow.   Last night i throttled up from a touch and go and it dead sticked.Came down hard and broke the engine mount so i am buying a bigger mount today.   Going to try a prop change as well.Had a 13x7 fitted,Any suggestions as to prop size?   Also does anyone else have a problem with the wooden control rods?   I have a juddering elevator which i initially blames on a dodgy servo.I believe the rod is twisting which makes the elevator judder.I think its the initial metal part of the rod bending.   I am either going to try and put a hard metal tubular sleeve over the rod or just change the rods completely
  12. Me too, Just fitted it but it's going to be awkward rigging up the throttle. Where have people located the rx battery and receiver? I don't have a manual. Using 2.4
  13. sorted it i think, turned the mount upside down and drilled new holes and removed the clamps. engine is sitting perfectly now.I had to turn the carb round but being a four stroke the carb is very close to the firewall.   i will have to move the throttle push rod and its going to be in an awkward place being higher than the servo. Not sure how i am going to do that but i'll try.
  14. I just bought two engines. a saito 82 four stroke and a saito 65 four stroke. which one would be best in the texan?   for some strange reason the 65 is bigger in size than the 82??????
