  1. Club wise we are trying the bishops waltham and thorney island one. I now have insuramjce and bmfa membership and have emailed David regaring the engine advice. I may post what electric engine I have and esc and battery as I may convert trainer 30 to electric and put enya 40 min a 40 trainer as advised.  thanks a lot people and sorry so long in  getting back but I am grateful.
  2. thanks steve see you next year then i will email site and arrange a visit. brilliant
  3. not yet as I was  told best to get it from start of year as it is a better deal with bfma.  my mate does have insurance. whats the best advice.
  4. It is good help and to be fair being a busy IT manager I have not had much chance to get onto this site until now and after subscription. Incidentally the trainer i have is built for IC but I also have an speed controller a motor and a 6 cell battery waiting for a plane so maybe I should have IC for club and like you say a simpler electric thast is dsafe for field as the fielkd we use is so big you cannot see from one end to the other so electric should be safer where I would not trust a crashed IC not to burn the filed!
  5. we fly cubs in farmers filed now and  my friend has an IC likee me not flying and same model 40 trainer that is electric converted which he has used but crashed so we still need help andmaybe we should trael to learn at club and use bothe the club and filed close by for various models that suits the environment.
  6. Hey this is getting more like it thanks to you all and the comment on old fogies ring true. When I purchased  first plane and had about an hours advice in shop an old boy moaned he was waiting behind a novice and he wanted to buy his scale plane pars. I was told to ignore him and that he spent nearly all Saturday in shop. Hedidnt actually bother me that much and never came accross thisattitude  in the armed forces as we always watched out for each other. Just how this site is now going so thanks for the lift you lot it has made a big difference already.  Could we at least visit Basingstoke club just  to view and learn and see hwats required for a class etc.
  7. yes forget it. This the position I want to fly real planes but no way could I afford it and I think model flying is the next best thing and in some ways better as I can fly anything. Started on cub as it was given to me free,  I got bitten by the bug and realised the next stage of models are in fact real planes if you get my meaning.  If I could learn trainer and maybe get a class then I would be  chuffed to be able to flty some serious kit.
  8. what is  a good starting point. bearing in mind I had no training or club to attend.
  9. What I aspire to is an acrobatic plane, a Spitfire or Typhhon and a WW1 warbird.  Just need to walk before I can run.
  10. It certainly is but I want to move away from this anyhow so no real worries. Itching to go 2.4gh on my Futaba and IC trainer. I will post some pics soon.
  11. sorry I mentioned at start they are for the hobby zone super cub. speed controller and a broken throttle on transmitter.
  12. Sorry I never meant  to say it was snobbery I was asking could it be I suppose ( think I dug a bit of a hole here). I  wrote to these clubs by email from their sites but the replies were full or no learners. One club we could go and learn is in Dorset 65 miles away so not really a practical  option.
  13. We have two shops on in Cosham who is one man band who is helpful but cannot help with any clubs.  The second is a big chain 30 miles up road in Southampton where I had 4 moth wait and still no engine. But trying not to be negative they are trying to swap over 6 for a 4 esc on cub. They reccomed a club but it is New Forest and a good 45 miles away.  We have a field which the farnmer lets us use but we dont want to fly anything but cub for now as we are not trained or have planes been trimmed etc. To try would be dangerous and we dont want to lose field over a silly accident. Plus our filed has no runway and is used by cows so there are lots of natural roundabouts.  I have emailed clubs in Portsmouth and 20 miles up road in Petersfield but say we are not in their postcode so cannot join the other wants no beginners the other has a waiting list. Loads of clubs for cars and boats just not planes.  I haave been tempted to pay and get a certificate and then just fly in field.
  14. trying to get a ch 4 controller for cub as I keep breaking throttles. Dont want to keep paying 30 quid to Hobbyzone. If I could solder a new slider on would be good. Thing is I am itching to fly my IC Trainer which I have now been given a .40 Enya engine. Do not want to fly without training and ensuring it is setup correcly. So the engine is sorted. Problem for months was the trainer was a Ripmax 30 and I could not get a .28 engine so I have now put a .40 in.  I am looking for a channel 6 esc for cub for friend. I have a channel 4 spare one which a rc shop said they would kindly exchange  but they have not got any in form Hobby Zone! I am chasing this next week.  I have a futaba 6 channel 2.4gh too still in original state. Just want to get onto IC and 2.4gh and stop the cuib really and use it for park only. Cheers  Rob
  15. Thanks for the news on sub gift. I have emailed twice and got a query number twice and no answers other than the original 28 day wait.  waiting is not the issue if somone lets me know whats going on. Anyway it is on its way and I am hopeful this product will help me learn a few discipilne. Thanks again and on a positive note the magazine is spot on.
  16. Sorry I meant no tone or aggression or mean to insult anyone but there are 3 of us who need to be taught and join a club just to be told can you fly, no, oh well we dont want to teach and have places for flyers only. I have somewhere to fly but think it would dangerous and stupid to teach myself how to fly a heavy fast ic model.  Plus I want the social aspect of a club.  I am ex Royal Navy and would say I can mix and get on with anyone. So sorry again for the way I wote the original thread.
  17. Has anyone else subscribed in October 2009 and as yet has not received their rc flight simulator.  Very poor service and a bit of a put off for somone new to the mag and rc flying.  I also cannot get into a club, cannot get teaching on my not yet flown ic trainer.  Down here in Portsmouth if you are a beginner they dont want to know or am I looking in wrong places. I am 45 hardly a kid is thyere anyone who can advise on this thread d as I just want to fly and move onto bigger and better things.  All I can do is fly supercub park flyer well I could if I was not on my second broken throttle slider.  I waited 4 months from Hobby Stores for a ic engine and still waiting 4 and a half months on for an esc for supercub. Is this hobby who you know and full of snobbery  or am I getting bad start in this game after 1 year?   Prove me wrong please someone!
