  1. My advice is safely dispose of it. I put a lipo in my futaba 14sg and had a total transmitter failure (went dead) I had a fly away with my wots wot, failsafe kicked in, but the result was a total write off. Two things were found. 1) despite being on charge for quite some time prior to flying using a purpose made futaba lipo transmitter charger... the lipo was not charging. 2) if use a lipo, you need to adjust the battery voltage setting to reflect you are running lipo rather than higher voltage Nimh or Life or nicad. If you do not, you will not get a transmitter 'low voltage' warning. I forgot to do this, with lipos, the power just falls off the cliff, hence my transmitter shut down and model loss. I reverted to Nimh in the transmitter and not have a problem since. You need to beware, different futaba transmitters operate with different voltages, hence some trainer buddy leads have a voltage converter in line to drop from circa 9.6v to 6v.
  2. Its not directly a Futaba (or Ripmax) issue as in the company, its the good old EU where ETSI has changed the transmitted power ruling meaning less power is allowed to be pumped out of the transmitter and that is not compatible with FASST receivers. FASST is still a valid protocol / modulation technique in countries outside the EU, so if you read the manual for the 16iz, it shows up as a valid configuration selection. Which is where you could get confused! If you read the 'specifications' section towards the front of the manual, it states 'not working in EU' in fairly small print. The 16iz is compatible with -S-FHSS, T-FHSS and FASSTest modulation but for a lot of people to use it, that would mean purchasing new receivers as the 16iz is not backward compatible within the EU I really want the advantages of the 16iz, but I cannot afford to purchase £600-1000 of replacement receivers!
  3. I have been thinking about a new Futaba transmitter. I had been thinking about the 16sz, but I have just seen the announcement for the brand new 16iz. This looks like a really nice transmitter, with the benefit that the aerial is embedded in the handle, rather than the normal position, that easily gets broken. Looking at a forum post and then looking at the manual download, the 16iz WILL NOT work in the UK (EU) if you are using FASST or FASST7CH. So do not purchase this transmitter if using older receivers. I have 12 !! The EU has changed the rules, and Futaba do not have grandfather rights to work with old FASST receivers. The newer gear works like Spektrum with unique model memory allocated to each receiver to prevent 'the wrong model' being flown in error. The transmitter DOES support FASST but not within the EU !! Seems we are still included !   Looks like a 16sz for me, with a twig that's likely to get broken over time !       Edited By Ian Perry on 03/02/2021 19:59:38 Edited By Ian Perry on 03/02/2021 20:01:48
  4. really sad. great products. Having retired over the last couple of year, I had got back to scratch building rather than ARTFs assembly.... so in recent months I have been using solartex, solarspan, balsaloc etc......I dont really want to really retro to nylon or silk coverings. Maybe with Brexit we will see more Coverite products coming over from the USA. We will get fantastic trading deals with our very special trading relationship... ha !
  5. I spoke to someone around 16th May ordering some bespoke oleos. They seemed nice and helpful. I was told 2-3 weeks lead-time and they would sort the money out late - they did not know what postage would be. So they would give the full cost when ready to ship. Since then, I have emailed and left multiple calls. I am getting no answer or response. Looking at the web, Unitracts now seems to be popping up with contact address at the original address on Tyneside and now in Gravesend, London. So unsure if they have been taken over or relocating. The contact numbers are the same for both...but no one answers. Lets hope not gone the same way as Traplet.
