  2. Hi all, I finally got the bottle up to try forward flight, tell me what you think.
  3. Sorry i put this in wrong place, please could it be moved to beginners or appropriate section plz.
  4. Hi all here is a video of my first attempt to hover and me now.     first hover.        Yesterday.      Please feel free to let me know what you think, good or bad. Edited By Rookie on 01/07/2010 09:35:09

  6. Ok i have no PM so if i get told i can try again then i shall.   PS. did u watch the video? Edited By Rookie on 11/06/2010 22:47:17
  7. trust me it is deleted coz i got it bookmarked and when i goto bookmarks its not there and when i use the notification email it says:    Thread Sorry, but the thread cannot be found.    All it had was a video of my brother flying and crashing his heli into a turtle sandpit......we'll see what response if any i get from mods!
  8. I had a thread called Twister crash...funny! Video included.. get deleted, it was not nasty or offensive? it had 2 replies before it got deleted.   And the deleter did not even give me a reason why!!! if thats how it is here then i will go elsewhere and not buy the magazine anymore!
  9. Hi there Mark, not that i am an expert, but i always watch the nose when flying which i believe is the correct way to fly heli's.   Cheers.
  10. Cheers guys, well, i took it out today (without the sponges on the bottom) and had 1 good hover, really nice and steady, then brought it down smoothly.   Second time i took it up it started off nicely, but then both rods of my training gear came off of the right hand side heli started moving left and i tried to counter it, but it was too late, thankfully its only cost me a main rotor shaft, main blades, tail gear AND a new training gear lol     So wont be long till i'm back up and running.
  11. Hi all, here is a video of me trying to hover....i was only putting little inputs in (that i am aware of) but still it seemd very twitchy) Ps yes my kids were a distance away with my bro in law watching them and wife was filming.       PS the crash half way through was due to training gear getting caught in grass Grrrrr.
  12. Hi all i just thought you guys would enjoy a good story of a noob heli pilot.   Now my brother has only had his heli a short while and with no prior experience has managed to setup and hover pretty successfully....take a look at the video and please please comment on the vid either here or on youtube as he needs a confidence boost lol.       Many thanks guys and gals    Ps. please excuse his egghead impression  Edited By Rookie on 27/05/2010 18:44:55
  13. Thanks Simon, i've registered with that site and awaiting for my account to be fully active.   OMG that guy in the vid was silly...if he caught his leg that would of been very painful.   I'll check the tracking out to see if its ok and i think the gyro is ok.....but then i am a noob lol.
  14. the tail servo is mounted on the boom so if it needs adjusting i can try that one.   I live in bolton and my local club is about 25 miles away....and as my car is screwed i cant travel there and back...i contacted the club to see if they are accepting members and to see about car share, they said they aren't accepting members atm, but they put me on the waiting list and car share shouldn't be a problem when the time arrives.   I asked if they have a heli pilot that lives in bolton and could assist me in the setup of my heli and they gave me a guy's number.....i spoke to him and he said to call him at 6:30pm...i did and no answer, i have tried him several times to no avail..i even left a couple of polite messages on his answerphone asking him to miss call me when he has the time to chat...still nothing, so it seems i am still alone.   Sorry about the essay and poor grammar, i am tired lol.
  15. thanks simon, dunno how i'll sort out the tail issue, but i understand the pitch side, the only reason i put mid stick at 0degs was because since i started flying i have had hard (and costly) landings due to negative pitch, (as well as the fact that i only just found out that RTF only means you have everything u need and not that its all setup to fly out of the box.....cost me over £100 so far in parts) so i was trying to prevent the damage from low altitude hovering.   thank you mate.
  16. Ps none of the heli is bent as it only just had a new main rotor shaft installed lol.
  17. i hear you loud and clear on both the safety issues, sorry about the holding the heli while spooling....i saw it on youtube and thought it was ok.   My little one was at the window with it open on the safety catch, but glad you have my boy's safety in mind too.   thinking about it i think the rotor speed is low too, whats the bbest way to adjust that? throttle curve?   yeah i have a pitch gauge, pitch is 0 at mid stick and 9 degs at full....pitch curve is at 50% L,2,3 80% at 4 and 100% full throttle.    Throttle curve is default dx6i setting (L=0%, 2=25%, 3=50%, 4=75%, H=100%)   i am guessing throttle is incorrect and thats why my tail is acting like a lemon?   Many thanks simon.
  18. Hi all i have a quick question....i have a twister 3d storm and i finally found out i need to setup the head and servo's including the pitch and tracking.   I have done all that but two things are baffling me, first is my blades appear to be curved when rotating....are they too loose? also my gyro will work when i hold heli and test it....as the following video shows.       any ideas why it would not work when on ground? the video below is me doing a tiny hover, but i had to have full rudder trim to the right and then some right rudder stick input so it will steady, i have centered servo's and fiddled with the gyro gain.   also about the blades, they seem to curve clockwise would that be due to them needing tightening?      Thank you for taking your time to view this thread.
  19. ps please excuse the toaster/mess.....i wasn't planning on putting this on the net lol
  20. Hi guys, i have crashed my heli on a couple of occasions one of which included the feather shaft....which snapped on one side, i had replaced it making sure what came off, went on in the same way.   Anyway i have since been following a youtube guide on setting up the head on a blade 400 which i believe is similar to my heli.....but i am now at the pitch setup and noticed my rotor head moves as per this video.     Hope this works.   Any ideas as to if this is ok? that is with the nuts as tight as i can get them with no sideways movement.   Any input would be great . thanks for reading this boring thread lol.  Edited By Rookie on 23/05/2010 12:10:12 Edited By Rookie on 23/05/2010 12:14:21
  21. Thank you Ross for the great insight, i plan on trying to get to a club if there are any members local to me that can assist with a lift, or at best have a member who is able to go to assist me in the assembly and then we may be able to go to a local field and give her the maiden voyage and me some help with flying.   If that is not possible i shall purchase a V trainer and the Calmota 40 and will only use the V trainer till i am able to fly and land without incidents, then i shall take my assembled Calmota to my local model shop and pay for it to be set up properly and make sure it is as should be.Edited By Rookie on 08/05/2010 19:14:45
  22. Very good tips guys and they are much appreciated....JayCee that is a fantastic idea, i shall call my local clubs as soon as i know i'll have the money to purchase a model and see if they can come up with a solution to my dilemma (before i even spend a penny), i dont even mind paying half the fuel cost if someone is local and doesn't mind picking and dropping me off.   I'll keep you all posted and thanks again.
  23. I will be using a massive field for my flying with my brother-in-law and wife both spotting for people, pets etc so i dont have to do that as well as fly.   I will fully listen to you guys and as suggested i will be buying the V Trainer because although i really want something that i can fly, i also want to be able to fly it lol, nothing more depressing than paying £400 on a model just to crash on take off.   I cant wait to get the V trainer. Thanks guys and please feel free to post anything you feel would be of any help.
  24. Thanks guys for your quick replies.   Eneloop....can anyone provide a link to the pack i need, when i search all i can find are AA batteries where as i assume you need a battery pack.   With regard to going it alone....i wish i had someone who was able to fly model planes so they could assist me in assembling the plane and i could learn more about building as i go....as well as take her up for her maiden voyage (i have visions of the plane attempting to roll to one side on take off and becoming a pile of wood), but i have onle been here a couple of weeks and dont know anyone here yet.   Servo's - standard sized, mid range it is , flight box - roger that, i do not ride a motorcycle so thats that one out the way. I appreciate joining a club is cheaper and would save me money, but i dont have the money for a car....yes i could use the £500 for a car instead of a plane, but that would defeat the object of getting a car as i'd only use it to go out flying .   I'll take a look into tuition, but like i say i only have about 500 squid to spare.   oh and thanks Lazy....how could i forget fuel   thanks again guys....please post anything you feel may be important...or not as it all helps.   P.S. if there is anyone reading this thread who lives in bolton and wouldn't mind assisting me with assembly when i get her....or even just to maiden vouage her, i'd appreciate it.
