  1. UPDATE, for those who may be interested... I took my tx in my carry on luggage, and got through no worries, i presented it as electrical, so gets placed in another xray machine tray, as you would do for a laptop. i also asked about a small, engine and they (2 different security personael) said it shouldnt be a problem. So now you know.....
  2. Thats what i was afraid of, its not ryanair it the security guys at the x ray machine... I will probably have the engine and tx wrapped and posted to me then.. Dont want to be told its a suspicious device or not given a good reason at all and then be expected to put it in the bin to get on the plane.
  3. Thanks chris, the questions were going to be together, honest! I did email both ryanair and the airport i would be flying from but neither replied, that was a month ago, im travelling tomorrow. I just wanted to see if anyone else out there had carried these things through security without any problems... ta.
  4. I have a fourstroke engine, would i be able to carry this in my carry on luggage? Y ou may think its a silly question, however a couple of trips ago , i had beach stone, about the same size and shape in my luggage, it was taken off me as it could have been used as a weapon!
  5. Just a quick question, i have a JR 35mhz radio TX, no batteries, will i be able to carry it in my handluggage??? On aryanair flight? Edited By Chris Bott - Moderator on 19/08/2012 11:24:57
  6. Please keep us informed if/ when you get a respnse. I wont be using them until you get a positive response.....
  7. Danny, im sure your just being modest... but when it comes to club flyers and sport models we're all in the same boat, with the same problems with loads of gear , restricted space and big hands, what you consider a mess would be slick to someone else! Ha! Me... The bigger scale models at shows have loads of space, like on those 50% scale planes or larger that are around. Radio gear and wires, i suspect, just disappear in those large airframes. Sam
  8. Surely an untidy instalation is all part of the education, its lets everyone see 'behind the scenes' and lets us into the mind of the modeller?..... It lets us know even the masters, get away with an untidy instalation. Even if they are perfect inside, we'd all (i'm sure) like to see. At the start/ end of a show a modeller wouldnt mind a few shots to show the workings, they are probably equally proud to show off the technical gear inside as well as the detailing on the outside, for the greater good, the education of the rest of us. All the spectators and equally enthusiastic modellers that dont get past the barriers dont get to see any of this. It could be the start of new compeitions at shows, 'the cleanest radio instalation'.... 'the best concealed radio instalation'.... etc
  9. Nigel, thanks for your suggestion, nice looking plane, although for my taste and needs it looks to much like a plane. Ie not ugly enough! I just contridicted myself didnt i! I liked the edge and xray!! No i have to go U.G.L.Y!!!!!
  10. The best modelling mag by the way... ..but with all the nice photos (on grass, taking off, from a low angle, in the arms of the maker) of the show stopping one off models, we never get to see inside them!? Why not? Have the makers something to hide? Does it say somewhere 'made in china'? Probably not but its a view into another fascinating world where many dont see. Where does the gear go, what gear do they use, what technology is in there? Where do the servos go, whats the connections? We all love this modelling hobby because of all the technical skills required but we dont get to learn anything from these models or modelmakers. What do you think? Regular indepth photos of showstoppers? And there insides!
  11. Nice one steve, i like the X-ray and edge, will look seriously at these!!! Build looks good through the see thro film. thanks!!!
  12. Thanks for the advice guys, im gonna make some visits to some clubs, like the wansted mfc suggested, i heard of this one before when i was living in leytonstone. So will make a visit over this weekend or the next. And see whats flying. Robin, i'll chk out your merlin! thanks christian, robin, cs (& alan)
  13. Good point CS, could get some advise from other forum posts on converting an acrowot. Mmmm.... what do you think of the stik models mentioned at the first post? Electo stik, ultra stik?
  14. North london would be most convenient, then east, then west, although i will even go beyong m25 , n,s,e,or w if the club is good and the members are fun. I like the idea of leaving in the am and staying out for the day, so a bit of distance is not a problem. as for the Multiplex Merlin , its a good little powered glider actually, very interesting, and one to add to my list, although coming from ugly stiks and acrowots i feel i need something larger, like the wot4 mentioned earlier, or larger.
  15. I live and work in central london, and i like the idea of an electric 'hack' to throw around at the weekend. I have flown in the past, so dont need a trainer, just something that can go from slow and docile first flights to fast and fun. I like the fact that i can store it clean, with no petrol mess or smell, my girlfriend agrees! I dont have a lot of space/ equipment/ time to build from scratch, so a ARF would be preferred. And not much space to store it so a 2 piece wing would be a good option? Hi or lo wing! preferably under £150. I dont want a complete foamie, balsa airframe with foam or built up wing. I dont mind ugly, i'd perfer it, like a female shot putter, so i dont get attached if its gets dinged, Like an ugly stick, panic, etc. What do you guys think of: electro stik, ultra stick 25e, Kyosho Calmato ST EP 1400, Sebart Shark S 30E, Advance 25e, Mini Pulse XT, Cheers boys!
  16. Ello i'd be interested in: The widget mustang (exactly what i was looking for!!!) and red ned sam
  17. cheers tail dragger..I cant wait to get back out and up there............the hobby has moved on somewhat, but hats off to everyone on this forum, i have looked through all the sections and the wealth of knowledge and advice is great.keep it up everyone!!
  18. They were a quite large model manufacturer in the states in the 80's making kits of large scale ducted fans and prop driven kits with loads of add on accessories. I can remeber the f-16 was quite special.I take it they went bust or were bought out by another company, but who? cheers.
  19. BTW this was originally posted in 'newbie 'section but i have copied and pasted......
  20. eric, many thanks, very good advice!! exactly what i was after!!!ball races replacements, if needed- i assume i can get from the manufacturer/ or model shop? nimh- i will have to look into! hopefully these will be more reliable than the experiences i've had with Nicads. Insurance i will need to sort out as well!! Top advice many thanks. Tony, photos, i will get when i unpack the planes!I see your a keen biker too from your other toys section. me too, i've been on a 600 for over a year now. lots of fun when the weather permits.  Cheers!! + Thank you very much all!!!!
  21. hello all fellow modellers, all this new technology is great, i can chat to you guys from my sofa. Well i am considering getting back into RC modelling after an approx 15year absence. I considered myself an intermediate modeller, building all my planes myself. Although a 7yr + Uni life and a new career in London robbed all my time and finances. I will have a few questions over the coming months, my first questions are not about the right model or flying sites, as i have looked into this already. (originally posted under newbie tread, relocated to here as it may get more responses!?)   As i was a modeller before i have a collection of about 3 or 4 planes ready built, a couple of which have had a few hours in the sky, a couple have not been flown yet. My first questions  are about how i should prepare these planes back for flight?? (1 is a pipercub, 1 is an Gorgeous Black Acrowot with a saito FA80, one is a ARTF stik type plane with a HP40 engine)  They have been stored in an attic and were bubble rapped up nicely so are not damaged. What checks should be done to the airframe and wings?  What kind of maintainace would i need to carry out on the engines? 1 is a 2stroke 1 is a 4stroke. (i didnt do anything special when switching off the engines for the last time 15years ago) Do the fuel tanks / fuel lines need to be replaced? What checks should be carried out on the radio equipment? 35hrz! is this freq superseded now? Or Should i just invest in new tech RC equipment?  Any answers or advise from you pro's would be greatly appreciated. I am asking as i just need a bit of direction with these old bits of my modelling history. I spent all that time /money on building them it seems not right just to confine them to a bin of balsa and foam?! What do you guys think?
  22. Blimey, 2 reponses all ready!!! and 18 views! this is a popular forum site!  Ian W- thanks  Mod- Thanks for your 2p, I have photos but of course they are old style and not digital!!! But that wont be a problem when i get them down! I will repost this then in 'all things flying' somehow, probably just copy and paste. Your advise is appreciated and it all makes sense.
