  1. hello everyone,   Thanks again for all your replies.   I thought I would give you an update on where I am at the moment with regards to a/c choice. I have found a nice little scale arf that should suit me as a trainer The eflite grasshopper, if anybody disagrees please let me know . Obviously I need to join a club and the BMFA first (and save some pennies) but I thought the grasshopper was a good choice.   Longer term I am going to build a Lockheed U2 from plans. I have found some 1/8 U2 plans on ebay and will probably get those. One question for you guys with regards to scale. The U2 has a wingspan of 117 inches in 1/8 scale which is almost 3 metres. Thats a bit big for me and was thinking of changing the scale by changing the inches to centimetres, ergo 117 cm wingspan. The U2 is something I can start slowly and build over the course of the year bit by bit. Also I already have all the electronics for the lockheed barring some servos.   Anyone got any tips on clubs in the Middlesex area?   Regards   Paul
  2. Thanks for all the replies guys, much appreciated. Well youve certainly given me some food for thought. I'll keep you updated with what I decide.   Regards   Paul
  3. I was hoping to build something I could train on. I was considering a scratch built lockheed u2/tr1 as I have a wemotec edf and motor setup gathering dust at home. I thought that would be a close setup to a powered glider and as such a good trainer. However I have read that a high wing is preferable for training hence my thinking of the Lysander? Or perhaps a Feisler storch would be a good choice?   Thanks again   Paul
  4. Hi Garry,   thanks for the reply. I see what you mean with regards to leaving the scale aircraft for now. That said however I love building models and to be honest I'm looking forward to the build stage more than actually flying!   regards   Paul
  5. Hi all,   I am new to R/C flying having never flown. I'm looking for a good kit to build or plans for an acceptable electric trainer. I'm quite a good modeller and would like a scale aircraft to build. I looked at the Lysander, but thats a bit bigger than I was hoping, maybe a lysander at half the size?   Thanks   Paul
