  1. Thanks all for the replies. Not such a black art after all then?!   NigelH - any chance of elaborating on the issue with the throttle linkage?   Cheers   James
  2. Hello all!   Thinking about going for a 90 size 4 stroke in my next model (not sure what yet but something semi scale).   I have only ever had 2 stokes before (all SC - always found them very reliable and can't argue at the cost so will prob get one of their 4 strokes). What do I need to know/consider when operating a 4 stroke? Will I need different fuel/plugs? Any differences in starting, running in, setting up? etc etc   Any thoughts/advice gratefully received!   Many thanks   James A
  3. To be honest Bruce that thought had crossed my mind!  The question then becomes which to get first....    I was hoping someone may have experience of them both so thanks Weasel that may well have swayed it.   As for the Tiggie, that will be number 4!
  4. Hi all.   I have spent the last few months getting my skills back on an Arising Star after a looong break from model flying.  I have got to the point now where I want to move on to something more like what I was used to.   I like the look of both the VMAR Bulldog and the Blackhorse Chipmunk having spent many happy hours tearing round the sky in both.  I would be putting an SC .61 into whichever I end up getting.  I have had a look through the various posts on here about each individual kit.   The thing is I like the Bulldog, but I also like the Chipmunk, but which is better?  There's only one way to find out........
  5. Stephen, thanks very much for the offer but it looks like I have solved the problem. The new wing arrived this morning and the model is now finished.  Fingers crossed for good weather on Sunday!
  6. Ok, I have machined the mount so the engine fits much better.  That was my initial thought but I wasn't too sure how much it would have weakened the structure.  Still I guess its better than having the arms bent.  Test ran the engine in the model today, all seems fine.  Just need some wings now!   Thanks again for the advice!   James
  7. Simon, my thoughts exactly.  I would never even consider it if it was a full size aircraft. Hopefully the images below will highlight what I mean.  The main offender is the right hand arm.  The ruler in the bottom pic is aligned with the longitudinal axis so hopefully shows by how much the thrust line is offset.
  8. Hi guys,  thanks for the replies.   I have managed to get the engine in but it took a lot of effort and one of the arms is pointing ofo at a bit of an angle and seems to be under a bit of stress.  The engine is also slightly angled off to the right.  I spoke to the shop about this and they said it would not be a problem and that the angle off would help to counter act the torque.  While I understand this I never had a problem getting an engine into a mount before and certainly never had a problem with torque effect from an engine being alligned along the fuselage axis.   I guess I'll just have to wait until the wing arrives then take it to the club and see what they think!   Thanks again.   James   Oh, and profile filled in, thanks for the heads up Garry!
  9. Hello everyone!   I have recently decided to get back into model flying after a break of nearly 15 years!  Having found my local club I popped along  to seek their advice.   I bought an ARTF Arising Star on the back of this.  When it arrived upon unpacking it I found the covering on one of the wings to be torn to shreds.  A quick phone call to the shop and the nice man told me to send the damaged wing back (I bought it from their website) and they would send me a new one.    I then had to go away for 2 weeks but when I got back sure enough the replacement wing was there.  All looked ok until on closer inspection I found one of the ribs to be broken.  Another phone call and another trip to the post office ensued.   Meanwhile I thought I would make a start on the rest of it.  The model came with an SC .46 engine and when it came to fitting this to the mount the mount was too small.  As this model is sold as a .46 size trainer I am a little puzzled.  Are SC engines bigger?  I will have to get a new mount but I am not sure if the holes will align with those pre drilled in the firewall, are they a standard size?   Never having previously bought an ARTF I am not sure whether this sort of thing is normal!   Many thanks.   James   ps still waiting for wing number 3....
