I've built this (put a video on youtube flying in the snow) it flies really well and slow. I was so impressed I doubled the sizes and built a nitro version with homebase dowel and a saito 56 which also flew really well. Downside is if you get a deadstick there is virtually zero glide ability. Push the nose down (right down) and land immediately (no turning or faffing around, just put it down) -
Joysway Dragonfly help please
Alistair Clinton 1 replied to David Pearce 4's topic in All Things Model Flying
I have had one of these for over a year and they are brilliant fun. Will take off from grass easily (or hand launch) and flying/landing on water is great. I hope it snows this winter so I can fly from snow too The servos are pre-installed and I would not worry too much how far the control surfaces move just start with the default setting on your tx. The 2200 battery is very heavy for it. It does fly 'OK' with the 2200mah but is nowhere near as nice as with a 1300mah. I strongly suggest the 1300mah. It flies really slow if you want, turns up it's own drain pipe and is just alround much nicer than with the bigger battery. I get 6 mins on a 1300mah without blasting around at full throttle. You only need a bog standard 20-25c . The main difference after flying and trimming it for a 1300mah battery if you then put in a 2200 battery it will need re-trimming with a lot of upelevator to fly level. The battery goes where it says it goes. Do NOT move things about. There is marking in the battery tray to show where the front of the battery goes. (almost at the front of the nose) Put it there ! Strap it in with the velcro fitted. Judging that you posted this request way back i n Feb I'm sure you've already found out the hard way. This is one of my favourite and most versatile ARTF models, highly recommended as a general fun 'hack' and is very easy to fly, very docile but also very responsive and can move fast too.! -

Martin just a note of caution, the rib side view is slightly shorter than that on the plan of the wing. Wasnt a problem i started by locating rib at trailing edge point on plan and seems fine. but there is a few mm difference

Hi Martin You may be in luck. Club mate who did the laser cutting for my vimy ribs is going to email you.

Martin, Good news! they still have it and i've ordered one sheet. Takes about 3 weeks. cost around £25+ VAT (say £30). If you want to get one cut at the same time please ring or email them a.s.a.p. Telephone +44 1629 734 053 email [email protected] for attention of Mr David White.

Just been flicking through the 1994 magazine and a few pages on an article by DB on having metal parts etched. He mentions having the numerous Vimy metal parts done this way and gives the name and number of the firm. (Slaters) Phoned them up and chap is checking for me but thinks they still have the info to etch them for me! If so, saves a lot of rasping!

theres also a couple of modelling magazines one from 1994 when DB took it to 'top gun' in usa and I found another from 1959 where it had article to celebrate the 50th anniversay . useful detail stuff

I posted my build on our club forum so may help you, if only what not to do! click here

I will ask, but don't hold your breath as I think it turned into quite a chore. Another club mate made the cad file for the rib for me, (which the laser cutter needs) which I can email you which may help for laser cutters down under? if so pm your email cheers Alistair

I'm building one at the moment and there is a lot of it. 104" wingspan . 2 x RCV90s which swing a scale 15.5 four bladed prop. Engine nacelles are difficult. Club mate laser cut ribs/riblets for me and i've made the inboard lower wings and top centre wing sections very quickly, just fiddly getting the ribs thru all the various spars. but laser cut ribs are a godsend.
