  1. Another vote for the super air, mine has been out today and is a real nice first low winger that you can get the confidence for the other planes on.   steve
  2. Thank you guys for the responses. I have sent an e mail with the above photos attached th crossgate models as suggested.   Alan C - If you do manage to locate the caps and you do not need them any longer I would gladly buy them off you to see if I can get the retracts working.   One more question - How do you pump the system up ? do you need a special pump (I saw on jetline website that there is a eurokit pump but can a normal bycicle or foot pump be used instead)   Thanks again   Steve
  3. Hi I have the chance to get a flair spitfire which is fitted with air retracts but has sat in the loft for 6 years. Can anyone identify the make/model of retracts and also if i can get spares for them. It looks like at the very least I will need to get some more threaded caps to go on the end of the cylinders. I have no experience of retracts at all so would be interested to know if anyone can help me get these up and running. Steve
  4. Hi   I have a friend who has a 72" Flair spitfire kit that has sat in his loft for 6 years since he gave up flying. It has air retracts fitted and all servos as well as a SC120 engine un run.   Does anyone have any experience of these kits or any knowledge they can impart. I have not used retracts before but they seem in good order.   All the best   Steve
  5. I hope this mass build is worth it. It has cost me about 40 hrs and 700 quid so far. (promised the misses I would convert the garage to a workshop)   I now have a 75% complete 18 foot by 12 foot fully insulated workshop that will soon be complete with building bench shelving, heating tools etc etc. All so I do not have to use the dining room table. I was trying to get it finished for April 1st but I think I will really struggle with that one. It is taking all my time up and has meant I've lost several good flying days.   It will be a great little workshop though so well worth it in the long run.   I only started this hobby in October - I think I've been bitten LOL   Best of luck with the builds fellas I will be joining you as soon as my dream workshop is complete.   Steve
  6. hi all I am going to set up a session with usual name and password if anyone fancies a go   steve

  8. great thanks, originally I planned to put an SC46 in this plane but once I sold the alpha trainer I decided to replace it with a black horse super air. The guy who sold me the plane had an almost new YS63 in fantastic condition which he wanted 90 for. I couldnt resist. I looked on the pro build website and saw the new 63's are selling for over 300. Another bargain I reckon.   All I need to do now is convert my garage to a workshop and I will be away.   Steve
  9. Thanks   I have a YS 63 going in to mine. I have tried contacting island hobbies by e mail - are they still a going concern? I was hoping to get a decal set and spats from them but its looking like its an older model and no longer for sale. I guess I can find spats from elsewhere but I did fancy the decals.   Steve
  10. A very thorough answer thank you both. I think the yak flies pretty well and it is only one or two clicks so I am not far off but it is very worthwhile knowing the above in order to try and get it spot on.   Steve
  11. Hi,   I would like to take my chances for a stinson mug also please David.   SteveEdited By Steven Butler on 24/02/2011 19:04:37
  12. Hi all   I have a yak 54 (seagull 120 size) and have taken it out for a couple of flights over the last few weeks when time and weather allows. I have noticed that if I trim it out for level flight at close to max throttle it needs a few clicks of up trim at the cruise to maintain altitude. I had an alpha 40 and cougar 2000 and they both maintain altitude perfectly on medium to high throttle positions.   My questions are twofold   1) is this a c of g issue or perfectly normal for this type/size of plane?   and   2) what are the flight characteristics of a plane that needs nose / tail weight so I can recognise what is required when at the field on my own   All of the planes including the yak fly well and can be brought in for landings with confidence and under control. This has not caused any problems but would be interested to increase my knowledge on the subject.   Steve
  13. Yes the sc120 fs is really nice in the yak. I am still running rich and with a wooden 16 x 6 prop. When the weather improves I will have a day with the yak and lean out a bit and try a couple of APC props of different sizes to see what is best suited. I have been advised a wooden prop is not ideal for the four stroke engine any how due to the reduced weight compared to APC   It will happily cruise on half throttle so I think a 120 is more than enough and is the maximum recommended size. A 180 in this may be overkill.   All the best   Steve
