  1. Model back on the balancer this evening, this time with marked masking tape, looks like balance was forward of center of wing tube. 20g added to rear end, balance now just in front of rear of wing tube. Hopefully only a little up trim required now.
  2. Didn't do inverted flight, took my eyes off the model to find the trim, and those few seconds afterward un-sighted scared the hell out of me. Just did a bit of pottering around, and a but of a vertical climb, and a rudder over, then landed. Waiting for some nice weather to try again.
  3. After doing much googling, it appears many people have the same issue I have, and the solution was move CG rearward. I possibly have mine just that little bit too far forward. I'm pretty certain its not a thrust angle issue, as I've had that with my smaller Yak, and while up trim was required when throttled up, the model pitched up terribly on idle, that is not the case with this Yak, as she came in just splendidly on idle for a nice landing (albeit a little faster than I'd like). So I'm going to put it back on the balancer and shift the CG rearward towards the back of the wing tube.
  4. I have the model in the house, and even with an empty tank you can smell the petrol for a couple of days after you run it. Need to clear out space in shed for petrol models I think.
  5. Some pre-maiden photos from the club this morning. Only had one flight, required a lot of up trim, which surprised me. Control throws a bit too aggressive I think, whole flight on low rates, and very maneuverable. CG smack bang in the middle of the wing spar, so will add some weight to the tail to move it back a little, as I can't move anything else around. Will post a video once I get it sorted in and get used to flying it. DLE20 worked a treat, bags of power, highly recommended.
  6. The HobbyKing Pitts S-12 has been discontinued , glad I have mine in the attic, sorry I didn't buy a few spares
  7. This Yak would make a great home, also the 60 size Edge 540 from Seagull, or the Hobbyking Pitts Python.
  8. Trying to organise a camera holder for my cap, so I can get some nice flying video.
  9. First start of DLE20 with pitts muffler, and Menz-S 16x8. Nearly ready for maiden, but suspect will be waiting till new year for time and weather to sync up.   Mega power from the DLE20, and a fantastic throttle response too, very happy with my choice.   Edited By John Allen on 16/12/2014 19:27:24
  10. Posted by Steve Hargreaves - Moderator on 04/11/2014 21:45:59: ASP120FS is about £125 from HK John & it's 2 stroke sister just under £90 which is about half the cost of the DLE20..... I was looking at just engines ;(
  11. The DLE20 is cheaper than the ASP 1.20FS, so I'd definitely be going for the DLE.
  12. Go with the DLE20, I got mine here, and a nice pitts muffler here
  13. @Lee I'll make sure the CG is at a safe position for maiden. @Steve I've seen a few YouTube videos with the DLE20 and it seemed fine, but there is no substitute for personal experience. I have an AGM 30, just in case the 20cc proves disappointing.
  14.   Yak on final stages of construction, here's some photos. From a preliminary check it appears to be very nose heavy, but will see how it goes when fully assembled and on the balancer. Edited By John Allen on 30/10/2014 21:41:35
