  1. Of course it is I was being a bit dumb and calling 14 ozs not 16 ozs to the pound. Yes I did measure from wing tip to tip.
  2. The weight of the plane before balancing was spot on 70 oz ( 5lb ). With a bigger engine I can maybe get the weight down a bit.
  3. The engine is as forward as possible on the engine mount, and the cowl won't allow it any more with a longer engine mount. I think it was built out of solid wood / ply instead of using balsa where possible.
  4. Hi Thanks for all your inputs. This is one for mothballing for now until I have had plenty more practice and put a bigger engine in it. I thought the engine was too small but wanted some suggestions, so once again thanks . Pete
  5. Hi I have aquired a Spitfire. It is a Pilot mk2. It is very solid weighing in at 5lb. It has a wing span of 48". I have had to put about a pound of lead around the engine mount to get the c o g correct so the plane now weighs 6 pound. It has an oS 25 nitro engine with a 9-6 propellor, is this big enough to fly this plane. I know its for experienced flyers but want to make sure when I am ready to fly it , it is all set up ok. Thanks Pete
  6. Hi Manny thanks for the answer. Not having an instruction manual didn't help, but now with your help I have sorted it. There wasn't a plug for the Nimh battery so wasn't really clear that I had to plug it where the banana plugs go. Thanks again Pete
  7. Hi Just started to get into Flying RC. Last Sunday was the first time I have had a go at the local club. Hope you don't mind me asking for some help on my first post. Problem I have is I have purchased a Turnigy Max80W charger, I can charge the Lipo batteries no problem but when I setup the charger for NIMH and connect my NIMH battery it says "Connection Break". I am plugging the NImh battery into the white 3 pin plug on the right. Please can some one put me right. Many thanks Pete
  8. Hi I have finally got the engine running at tickover and full throttle without the glow charger. I think I was a bit too heavy handed when I was adjusting the screws. Thanks for your advice. Can you please tell me which prop would be best for my trainer and this engine. I have a 9 x 6 and a 11 x 4 prop. The trainer weighs about 41/2lbs with a 63" wing span. Regards Pete
  9. Hi I have tried everything I can think of to get this engine setup. It is a GMS 40 with a 11x4 prop. ( I started with a 9x6 prop and changed in case it was this ) I have got it on a test bed. I can get it to run at top speed and down to just below 1/2 speed without the glow charger but as soon as I go below that it cuts out. It doesn't seem to rev up, it just dies down very quickly and stops. I have read the other threads and have tried to follow the examples but to no avail. I have started with the idle screw out about 1/2 turn and have kept trying turning about 1/3 turn each time till its about 5 or 6 full turns out and nothing changes. The high speed screw is about 3 turns out. I am using 5% Nitro and have run 1/2 gallon through the engine. The instruction say to use 10% nitro but the local model shop told me 5% is best and just keep running the engine and eventually it will tick over. Please can anyone suggest what I have got set wrong. Regards Pete
  10. Hi I am new to this forum so apologies if this has already been covered somewhere. I am also a complete novice about nitro engines. My problem is that when my mds 58 engine is running there seems to be a fair amont of oil blowing through the exhaust. It covers the plane with oil. I am using 5% Nitro purchased from the local model shop. I can run the engine, pick up the plane and turn it all ways and the engine keeps running. I haven't actually flown it yet. Any help would be very mucj appreciated. Thanks Pete
