First can I thank everyone who has responded to my intial request. I have never known a forum with so much enthusiasm and instand help. The first thing I have found out is to distinguish between brushed and brushless motors. As my motors only have two wires on each I must assume they are brushed. The second point is that I can allay fears that I didn't realise that my boats use 27 MHz and the aircraft I have use 35MHz. That said a good point well worth raising. I am not desperately keen on using a boat speed controller as they tend to be quite heavy and since the 8 cell battery I bought is quite heavy perhaps I should go for a lighter controller. If anyone knows where I can get a ESC - 40 amp speed controller (cheaply) I would be very interested. Again thanks to all for your help.

I have been a modeler for many years but only recently decided to try my hand at actually flying the beasts I build. I wanted a plane I could learn on which would be very forgiving and found an early Multiplex Twin Star. Unfortunately it came without receiver, speed controller or battery. The last bit I dealt with quite easily and I have a spare receiver I can use. However, where can I buy cheaply a speed controller without spending the earth. Also does anyone know if the body parts of the Twin Start II are compatible with the older model?   I don't know much about speed controllers except I use them in my model boats.
