  1. Hi Clive

I would add, make sure you buy the canopy from Vortex vacforms, I think that’s the name. I cracked the first one I bought, so made the one in the picture by shaping old balsa glued together and then hollowing out from the inside. It’s worked ok, but a bit heavy. I’ve just received 2 new once’s from this company.

  2. After I built the 45” model, as the weather was bad, I and a fellow flyer both built the 30” size, and we are using 3S 2200. Yes they go like a rocket. I must admit my first flight was going well until it just fell out of the sky. Damage was total. I had no idea why it happened. So home it came and it sat under the bench, which I looked at every time I went into the garage and incouldn’t decide what to do with it.

The guy that built the other one took his out, on one of the few nice days in Spring before this silly weather arrived, which I launched, so after watching his fly so well for the life of the charge, I got thinking. When I got home and put my planes away I got the remains of the Tuc on the bench and realised it was only the fus that was wrecked.

So I built a new fus and used the remaining of the original plane. The only issue I had was on the crash I lost the canopy. So I built one from balsa, shaped it, then hollowed it out with the Drexel. Best decision I’ve made for a while. Just wondering if I could build one with an approx size inbetween the two.

  3. Just thought I would up date this thread. I bought the wood pack, as suggested, and built the model along the lines of the many mass build threads on here.

As the weather was so bad ( I wish we had some of that rain now) I also went and built the 30” model as well. Both covered the same. The smaller model is great to fly as it really can move. But both fly well and have enjoyed them better than some of the expensive kits I have built over the years.

Thinking of having another go this winter, maybe putting wheels on the 45” and a 30” to keep it company.image.jpeg

  4. Well you have all been great with your advice. Just to put you in the picture I’ve stripped this plane down and I’m slowly rebuilding to ( I hope) a better condition. Looking at the many pictures on line and you tube, it appears this is an early version of the kit.

Here in Weston S Mare although the sun is beating down, we have had a continuous strong wind, since the sun came out, which, to me, makes flying not the fun event I enjoy. So I have had time to play in the garage.

Taking the rudder and elevator off, I’ve found very large hinges epoxied in place, which don’t lend to being pulled out, so I’ve made new from stock wood. I was going to use Mylar hinges pinned in place as per normal, when I put back in situ. Any comments on that.

I’m still to address the wings, but the aeralon are now out and the hinges are also rather large items also well and Truly stuck in.

    So thoughts and advice please.

  5. Hi All, well I have my xtra wot, a used model in need of a bit of TLC. So I have a couple of questions to carry on with this. Do I need 2 servo,s on the elevator, and what inboard battery should I use. I have an SC 120 to fit up front.

    Cheers

  6. just making a comment, I decided to get a few stored aircraft down and clean up and maybe fly them in this ridiculous weather. I Can’t believe how saggy and wrinkled the profilm has become in this heat. They look rather sad in that state.the iron will be working overtime.

  7. Well I have now flown both models. The little one was doing ok but just fell out of the sky. No idea why but it was a complete mess when I retrieved it, but no canopy. It sat on the garage floor for awhile as I didn’t know what to do with it, although jumping on it came to mind. In the end I cut the tail off and rebuilt the front end of the fuselage. The wings were good so rebuilt and flying ok.

The larger model just left the ground and flew away quite happily, but I have got confused with which way up they both are so some covering needed on the underside of both planes.

Great planes both of them, playing with making another of the larger ones.

  8. Well I’m need of help again. I’ve started stripping the Xtra Wot and started with Taking the covering off the fus at the moment, and noticed the top decking which is made of fibreglass doesn’t go all the way to the fire wall. The area covering the tank is wood. Is this correct or a building error or a builders modification.

    Thanks Tom

  9. hi All

I wrote on here a few weeks ago about obtaining an Xtra Wot kit, well I have been able to pick up a completed model. The problem I now have is that it needs a bit of TLC and recovering. As there are no drawings I’m looking for anything that gives me a clue about how to take a part and rebuild this kit. Any build blogs or instructions would be appreciated. I don’t want to reverse engineer the whole model.

    Thanks Tom

  10. Well I thought I would follow the website's advise and ring. Well that's a challenge on its own.

Rung about 8 times, left message,s but still no contact, No email address, and the last time I saw a fax machine I was still at work.

    Frustrated - Weston Super Mare

  11. For some time now I have been playing with idea of building an Xtra Wot. I've Flown most of Chris,s models and not found a bad one.

Anyway I have seen a few on eBay and other sites, but don't really want a plane that has been hammered by other flyers.

So I thought I'd see who had the best price for this model on line. To my surprise It appears that this kit has been discontinued, so no stock about. I haven't seen this mentioned anywhere so I thought I'd ask on here as, I'm sure some body has the story.

    Thanks Tom

  12. Hi Phil, no not yet, but I know I need to do it as the my last flying trip finished up with my Pussy Cat going in at a rate as I could not make out what way up it was.

Neither of them has flown, so it should be an interesting morning when I eventually manage to make the field.

  13. Hi all, I'm about to start building the Tucano 600, which I've managed to get a copy of the drawing and RCME 2003 May issue. Now I see the fuselage building notes are in the June copy. Does anyone have a copy of those notes that can be emailed to me, rather than hunting the web for another old publication.

    Thanks Tom.

  14. Thank you for that Caveman. I've now read your log, and it looks a very attractive build. Do you fancy building another. I had a DB Jodel, which I bought from eBay, which the guy told me it flew on 2 2200 lipo,s. Having put the set up he advised in the plane, I had the same problem, it was too heavy. So I finished up reverting to IC on that one. This model looks the business so I'm hoping my 2200 3s do the job.

The time it takes me to build, it's going to be well into summer before it flys. So thank for your help.i may be back.

  15. Hi wolstonFlyer

I'm a bit late on this one, as I'm just about to start the 2013 mass build as I was not too keen on this years choice. So I've read lots of the threads on this one. So I've just received the wood pack and looking at my electric motors etc. My question to you is this, on one thread you mentioned using 2 X 2200 3 S lipo,s to drive it. Like you I have more of these lipo,s than I should admit to, but how did this work? Or did you revert to 1 larger size. Reads lots on this link but couldn't find an answer.

    Thank
