  1. Hello everyone. I remember seeing a plan feature of an unusual sport aircraft many years ago - it was 4 small delta's (i think) linked by dowels together in a diamond formation and powered by a motor in just one of the aircraft. I've searched around but can't find anything like it. Can anyone point me in the right direction? Thanks, Steve
  2. Give it a go, you''ll be suprised how effective they can be. I use them on my Ripmax Extreme - It'll hover in anything over a gentle breeze. Take off's are instant! Also got them mixed on the tranny on a switch to give down flap with up elevator - does fantastic square loops! Just dial in a small amount in to start, and 'season' to taste.
  3. Hi Guys, Got the replacement bearings and followed Alan's excellent advice regarding freezing, heating etc. and it all went back together very smoothly. I've just fired it up and all seems good. It's putting out a lot of blue smoke - I guess that's the oil used in re-assembly burning off. Either that or I've not got the tappets set correctly? (Set them as the OS manual between .04 and .10 mm) I've only leaned it out to about 8400rpm for now - I was running it at around 9000. (On a 16x6 Master Airscrew Classic.) Should I leave it a little rich for a while? It's been brilliant to do this - I've got real satisfaction from the job. Thanks to all for your help.
  4. Alan - thanks for comprehensive help. That's clarified it for me. Richard - I was debating whether to remove the valves for that very reason, but I really should as all the rest of the engine is in bits. I'll take your advice and find a big poly bag! When the replacement bearings arrive and I put it back together I'll let you know how it's gone. (Fingers crossed) Steve
  5. Alan - thanks for your knowledge and advice. I'd better have a good look at the crankcase to make sure I haven't overcooked it. From now on I'll use the oven. I'm a little confused over how to refit both bearings. If I freeze them will they fit easily(ish) onto the crankshaft and into the front housing? I can see how using a drilled out dowel allows you to tap them into place with even pressure all around ensuring they are 'square' Camshaft timing - I believe the little mark on the face of the camshaft should be in line with the center of the cam and the pushrods? And of course I'll have to set the tappet clearances. Steve
  6. Blowtorch again and off it came. I've ordered both bearings from Model fixings and now just wait until they come. I'll post again when i put it back together. Thanks again everyone for your help - I've enjoyed doing this! Never too late to learn. Steve
  7. Ok - got the crank out - it's the rear bearing (the one on the crank) that's goosed. Next question - how to get this off the crank? Heat again? And then how to get the new one on? The front bearing seems ok, but while I'm at it shouldIi replace that as well? Another thing - on the piston there is a little inset that i guess is there as a stop for the gudgeon pin. Mine has a little 'return bend' out of the groove - is that how it should be? Steve
  8. YakMad - thanks, A minute with the blow torch and it came out easily.
  9. Hi Guys, Early start this morning - al lgonet well so far but how do I get the cylinder liner out? I've tried heating the case with a hot air gun but it don't want to budge! I don't think trying to prise it upwards and out through the rear is a good idea. Any advice please? Steve
  10. Hi Guys and thanks for the helpful replies. Adrian - I've watched that OS52 video, and with your encouragement am going to have a go and strip down the motor tomorrow. Hopefully I'll be able to spot the problem easily. If not I'll be back on here for advice! Thanks again to all - it's great to have the back up on here to attempt this sort of stuff.
  11. Hi Guys, My OS 120 FS Surpass (non pumped) needs looking at. Could be bearing, feels very 'lumpy' . Just Engines have a month + turnaround at the moment - is there anybody else I could try for a quicker job? I'm in France - is there anybody who knows of a French repair service? Thanks
  12. Hello Peter, I'm looking for the plans for Chantilly Lace - have you any idea where i can get a set from? Thanks
  13. Hi All - my 1st post.   Just about to start a Balsa USA 1/4 scale cub and want to use my 120 Surpass, ( the one without the pump), and will use my SM services on board glow driver. I've seen the Just Engines site and the CDI ingnition system interests me. Lower fuel costs, cleaner model, better idle? About £75 to do.   I guess I'll get slightly lower power? (Although in the cub it shouldn't be a problem).   Is it worth the cost and the time fitting?   Thanks
